Fast Ropes for Helicopters?

Recommended Posts

The helicopter fast rope was implemented via scripting and mods 10 years ago in Operation Flashpoint. Funny how it isn't a built-in option after 10 years.

Gentleman we may be in luck,

Endstar is a Game Designer at Bohemia Trollactive and might be working on Physx Ropes for Arma 3. Endstar was the developer who recently solved the Physx multiplayer crashes with one line of code too. :icon_twisted:

Confirmed?

What a coincidence! I just made this ticket: http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=15658 For physx ropes!

He works on VBS. No Ropes for Arma 3 atm.

Well BIS ( Bohemia Interactive Simulations ) have also participated in the development of Arma 3, at least they were in the credits of the Episode 1.

BTW has it been only me the one who has seen that some of the A3 helicopters have the crane where to attach the ropes?

Not confirmed, just under development. Things take time. No need to start a huge riot over a non confirmed feature.

If this explodes on the forums, its even more unlikely we will see this in game.

The community asks for it and even makes it as an addon.

It would be a pity for the dev not to make it - especially as they made it for TOH.

Do we need to start this up again? So that the developers begin to never to us anything or use twitter?

I believe you are overreacting.

If the dev wrote that in Twitter, is because he meant it. What we don't know is if he is doing it for VBS or for Arma. But if they are making it for Arma, they are not gonna care if people are talking about it on the forums.

On the other hand, if the devs see a lot of people interested in certain feature that they believe can improve the game, they will add it for sure ( if they are able to ).

People automatically assume its going to come and then complain when it doesn't.

i mostly fly mohawk and you really do find moments when you reassess where you're going to land because you might damage the chopper. Sure i can usually bring it down on a slope to grip if i pull it down hard and don't let it slide but that might damage it slightly. Sometimes when picking up players you hover off the ground and have players scroll over the chopper rather than land. Usually that's a manoeuvre i can avoid but i have found myself using it now and again. Of course i can avoid all these things by preforming more graceful landings. But in a tense enviroment when you need to use a terrain as cover to deploy troops quickly as possible behind a hilltop, quick ropes would be much more ideal.

manual or auto, having to land also gives away to enemy players that you're deploying troops. Sometimes i even find myself landing in 2-3 more places on a battlefield so that the enemy thinks i might have deployed troops in such places.

When i see a dust cloud from a chopper landing in pvp even if i only have partial line of sight my subconcious tells me thats very likely the enemy location. Fast ropes would allow a new level of uncertainty of the enemy position. This would breathe new life into the game for me.

You guys are thinking too inside the box with a rope object:

We could use a Physx based rope object for using in scripting things like vehicles being tied down, towing, lifting, IED, chains, rappelling, The Special Patrol Insertion/Extraction (SPIE) system, Detonating cord, cranes, Fulton surface-to-air recovery system, winches, better parachute simulation, and a million other uses. http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=15658
