2 CAS Aircraft remain unknown. What if?

Ok, so i've been doing some searches of compatible aircraft for CAS of Opfor, and Blufor. I've come up with some futuristic, and faction based contenders.

First up is Opfor, what if they had the YAK-130, or 131.

Country of Origin is Russia. There is a Russian, and Chinese variant. There is also an Italian Trainer similar to the Yak-131, the M-346. The Yak-131 was made to replace the L-39 class aircraft, and provide a more Advanced CAS aircraft. This aircraft would be ideal for the CSAT forces, seeing as it is made by a country that is supposedly backing its forces. Not only is it CAS capable, but when turned into an AA aircraft, its maneuverability far out does any L-Class aircraft.

As for Blufor, composed of NATO forces, there could be many options for an aircraft capable of doing CAS/AA missions. Modified F-15's such as the F-15S(Stealth),F-16's, or F-18's.

These are just possibilities. What do you think?

Well I think stealth is a gimmick in Arma 3 as it doesn't even do anything, so there is no point in making up a stealth plane. I'd love for it to be an F-15 (the F-15E is my favourite US aircraft) or an F-16 though. I just hope they are some real top of the line CAS aircraft though and not more little jets like the buzzard.

Considering that the devs haven't actually come out and said "jets", I'm wondering if the aircraft in question are actually going to be turboprops... :p This is at least partially based on the reporting that the M346 was the only jet offered to the USAF's Light Attack/Armed Reconnaissance (LAAR) program whereas the rest were turboprops, and in the subsequent Light Air Support competition both finalists were turboprops, as is the OV-10G+ Bronco being evaluated in the separate Combat Dragon II program.

On the jet front though, Textron revealed a new jet called the Scorpion a week and a half ago, larger than the M346 and somewhat heavier empty but otherwise pretty similar reported specifications, although it has an internal bay instead of an under-fuselage pylon and it doesn't seem to have wingtip hardpoints.

That would depend on what you mean by "top of the line CAS aircraft" though, since by that many would think "A-10" but I suspect that BI may have something else in mind... the trend that myself and the OP are describing is more in the vein of "little jets". Edited by Chortles

If current BI trends continue, Its probably gonna be a coyote tan F-35 for BLUFOR and a Hexagon pattern F-35 for OPFOR

Well as long as BI keep it accurate, and considering that Opfor and Blufor are well fit, other than the Greenfor R-Army, than it would be ideal for as clydefrog said, "Top of the line CAS jets". Yak-130/131 would be a perfect fit, as for turbo props such as the Bronco, for 2035, with current AA, i don't think it would be a good idea, as it wouldn't fly as fast or as hard as most jets. What ever the case, lets hope BI doesn't disappoint.

Please no F-35, or at least not solely. And yeah, no reskins as well.

I remember RKSL Rock (the guy who made the Typhoon) once doodling around and creating a hypothetical chinese stealth-fighter (I think it was when no one knew how the J-20 actually looked like). BIS should just pay him to create a bunch of planes for them, I trust him way more to come up with some quality content than Bohemia "Lol just reskin it" Interactive.

Hi, the yak-131 will be a perfect CAS plane for the OPFOR, for the BLUFOR... idn.. i love the Bronco!, but sure that they don't gonna use it for the game... i think that the F-35B is good enough for that role, but they could use the X-47B too; i would have liked to see more EU crap on the game aside of MV-22B and the AH-1Z & UH-1Y (of course) i would'd liked to see an Eurocopter Tiger or the Augusta A-129 as LAH, and a EF-2000 or a JAS-39 as Interceptor/MR plane. But a YAK-131 would fit perfectly as OPFOR CAS plane and would be good match for the F-35B that as we all know... it sucks IRL if you compare it with a good GR-9. Let's C ya

Nah, according to Rock it was "when the J-20 first appeared on the public scene and the first pictures came out", or you may be thinking of his revisions of the model on account of seeing new J-20 pictures, it wasn't purely hypothetical. :D

Admittedly I'd be more interested in a take on the J-15 Flying Shark, but then again I'm just a sucker for naval aviation in Arma. :lol:

The more modern F-35 would do, using the same one in Arma 2 would be a mistake, besides, the more modern F-35 looks 110% more SAT than the X-35B model.

Taking a look at the F-35A, it looks like a perfect competitor for the Blufor's CAS/AA aircraft, and the Yak-130/131 hits the sweet spot for Opfor. Heck, if the DEV's can't find a jet to use, they could look around the forums ounce in awhile. These fit standards as well. The F-35A's model is far superior to that of the Arma 2 F-35B.

Despite BI stating that both planes will be sub-sonic, I still wish the CSAT one will be something similar to the YAK-141.

As for NATO, a turbo-prop P-38 Lightning with a glass cockpit upgrade... with a giro stabilized belly turret :D

*laughs* That P38X would be rather cool. I know back in the 80's they did a massive rebuild, including a turboprop, to the P51 for COIN. Didn't go anywhere, but it was cool.

A sub-sonic CAS plane... You know, guys, one of the proposed successors to Su-25 was a sub-sonic jet with a striking, unorthodox design:

Well think of a low flying PSY-OPS plane blasting motivational phrases for the troops on the battlefield which also doubles as a logistics plane for all the locally sourced organic field rations.

It's part of NATO's 2030 resolution to cut costs by reducing the volume of ordnance dropped in combat and purchasing essentials locally, thus cutting logistics cost while supporting the local economy.

C130 type is needed so we can airdrop cargo and large numbers of troops. Hell even hunters and slammers etc. Especially ammo crates .. we need a method of delivering resupply to the field fast like this.

Then we need some updated long range SAMs as well. Like the old SA3 maybe. Easy to dodge but long range telephone poles coming at you. This necessitates SEAD missions , then cargo / asset drops to deploy as a staging area nearby that needs to be set up (camo netting anyone etc?) before a dawn raid of a military base/town. Great way to drop in assets quietly instead of driving.

CAS & Cargo

A-1 Skyraider had the ability to drop supplies (though not common) through a side hatch in the fuselage. It was used for various purposes (radar operators, EW specialists, etc) but on a few occasions to drop life saving cargo and supplies.
