ATI - Low FPS in spite of good hardware.

Recommended Posts

Hi,

my problem arises already from the title here.

I Hoping, one can manage, because Arma3 is playable currently so hardly.

Hardware:

  1. Mainboard: GA-990FXA-UD5
  2. CPU: AMD FX 8150
  3. Speicher: 16GB GSkill
  4. Grafikkarte: Gigabyte AMD 7970 OC ( Treiber 13-9_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql )
  5. Netzteil: be quiet! Dark Power pro 850

From the hardware, it should be sufficient in my opinion.

Nevertheless, astonishing it is which I really have massive burglaries FPS

and if I changes the graphics settings, does not do itself with the FPS a lot.

Perhaps sometimes 1-5 FPS there or here...

My MAX FPS lies on an average if nothing gets rid with 15 and as soon as we

in the application move, it goes under it to approx. 5 FPS...

Software:

ARMA3 Version: 1.00.109911

Windows 7 64bit topical Windowsupdates are instal.

Emsisoft Anti-Malware und Online Armor ( deactivates )

Utilization without ARMA3:

CPU: ~5%

Speicher: ~ 3,7GB

Utilization with ARMA3:

CPU: ~30%

Speicher: ~ 5,5GB

Im starting ARMA3 with this:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Arma 3\arma3.exe" -noSplash -cpuCount=8 -high

My ARMA3.cfg ( i set this options too )

Its not your computer, its the game (and its engine, same things in Arma 2)

To make it longer.

Try the following:

Terrain: Low

SSAO/Clouds/Caustics: Disabled

PiP/HDR/Dynamic Lights: Low

FSAA: 2x or Off

Rest on High (except for maybe Objects, play around with it.)

View distance: 1000

Object distance: 600

I was having major problems with mine, until I gave it another try this morning with the latest dev build.

All I can say it has improved by a fair bit on my system.

I used this guide to help me setup the game.

Im also using latest PHYSX : http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.13.0725-driver.html

ATI drivers : amd_catalyst_13.10_beta

Launch: -maxMem=4092 -maxVram=2048 -noBenchmark -noLogs -noPause -noSplash -skipIntro -world=empty

Unbelievable. Shows how much AMD performs compared to intel per core. I run at 20-30fps in MP even on wasteland with my ancient rig, but if it's a poor server that can't handle things then it does drop to 15fps, as for warfare like benny's start with 45fps until it drops down to 20 at very worst case. What I got is this:

Overclocked Q6600 G0 stepping from 2.4 to 3.2GHZ so far, planning to still increase to 3.6 or more depending how far this chip will go.

Cooler Master Evo 212

OCZ Ripper DDR2 RAM PC2-6400 at 800Mhz - 4GB

Standard Samsung 7200RPM HDD

MB: P35-DS4 rev 2.0 (Beast of that time, ideal for overclocking)

ASUS ATI HD 7750 1GB GDDR5 OC edition

As for in-game options keep my view distance at 2000, object distance 1600 and most settings high. Motion blur enabled, AA x8, can't say I remember the rest.

ATI are crap.... NVidia is the way forward with gaming now.

Arguments?? You can get two 7950's with a price of one 770. 7000 series are crazy overclockers and you get more performance with less money.

Some ppl say ATI drivers are bad but personally i've had no trouble with the latest beta drivers EVER. Nothing wrong with Nvidia tho.

Both companies make good stuff.

I also have good news for you AMD FX users. Check these benches and wait for updates.

AMD FX8350 only loses 3fps against i7-4770K both @ 4,5ghz

AMD aint that bad compared to intel just saying not here to start a intel / amd war. just saying that the amd 8350 does a good job in arma 3 atleast for me.

i have low dips to 25 here and there on domination etc els it sticks to 30 and some times 60. with alot of ai around i tops at 30-35 fps and drops to 25 fps most of the time.

all settings are on very high motion blur off VD 3500 Object 1200 shadow 100

Ah the old ATI vs Nvidia debate or AMD vs Intel.

I have both setups that I use.

To be honest both systems have there pros and cons.

I always say to people when there building a new system.

Do you want bang for buck or the best money can buy.

25-35(40) fps in MP on a good server.

1-5(10) fps in MP on a crap server.

system in signature.

If the servers fps drops below 25 its not good and all clients will start to suffer fps loss. #monitor

That has been my experience while testing mission and server setups.

Small missions are in the 70s, but large ones are in the 30s. Alits is a bear.

I use to be an AMD/ATI fanboy..then I met the Blue and green monstrosity of utter awesomeness..

haven't looked back.

Anyways, dropping your render distances seems to help a lot of people...have you tried that?

I have the same mobo FX8350,7950 and was getting the same unplayable fps.

Im not promoting this server/s,but try one of the Sa-Matra wasteland servers and see if the fps are better.

I went from 15/20 to 50fps.

If your only using Wasteland servers as the FPS metric...It just proves (as fun as wasteland is) Missions play the biggest part in FPS. If you first just go into the editor and plop your self down, then test different settings... then you will get the info to work from. A 7950, in the editor will run fine, refreshrate FPS.

This. At high resolutions AMD CPU 8350 is fine in this game.

not in multiplayer

i've played with both 8350 oc'd to 4.8ghz and 2500k and 2600k @ 4.8ghz, night and day.

Wrong..... it's the game NOT optimized for AMD structure...

I believe your both mistaken. My 7970 runs awesome with the game. The slow stuff (when all user error is gone) is the game its self, and with the updates(DEV, Stable) this week and today has improved the game ALOT. Its not AMD less than Nvidia, or better, both H/W runs the game the same relative to its power.

Nah... we're talking about the raw CPU power. The problem is ArmA uses so many scripts/calculations and so forth it performs more like 3DsMax, Photoshop and so forth that will eat up your resources quite fast. Intel is made to better handle that area, while AMD CPU's are more meant for gaming. A Q6600 like mine for example scores 6.7 in benchmarks against a FX 8350 which is only a little ahead at a score of 7.9 and keep in mind the Q6600 is a 2007 processor and pretty old and without hyper-threading technology, while the FX 8350 was released in 2012 or so.

I don't mean to start any war or what so ever, I do agree they haven't optimized AMD CPU's for ArmA, which is silly. But is that even possible with the current engine? Doubt so. Because ArmA simply requires all those scripts/calculations to perform the way it does. The only way I see how that can be achieved if all cores can be used to their full potential, but it doesn't ever reach that. Or a complete engine rewrite in the very worst case.
