AAF+civies (retexture of Vilas addons)

Recommended Posts

So pretty much a mod like good old PCDF from ArmA 2.

Really wish you will continue on your work topas, a mod like that is really fun to make and play. Project Atlis? ;)

Despite working on my VN, I can help out as a tester if needed help.

And again great stuff there Topas!

The YPR-765 could've been bought from the Netherlands too since they replaced theirs with cv9035s. The last budget cut even phased out some of those fancy new cv90s already. Maybe the AAF could have aquired some of those aswell. The Netherlands also have some PRTLs, PzH2000s and Leopard 2a6s for sale.

I cannot believe all this time I completely missed this thread!? This stuff looks amazing! I'm glad the AAF are getting some major love shown and with some amazing work and textures! AAF has to be my favorite faction in A3 and always disappoints me going into a coop and end up BLUFOR. :\ Maybe this project will start nudging people into always relying on American forces and start seeing the AAF have potential to be pretty cool and fun to use. Wish you all the best on your project, they are looking G-R-E-A-T! :)

The texture guru strikes again.:)

Lovely work Topas.Vilas really developed the civ side and I hope to see his work in A3 soon together with your retextures.

It's good to see an expanded AAF fleet of vehicles. Good work Topas and Vilas.:)

the Scimitar or the Trojan for example. I'm sure in 20 years they will still be used, the US Army still uses M113...

I assure you they wont.

A few might make beyond another 10, maybe 15 years in UK service (no other NATO country uses these vehicles - and ours were significantly upgraded so they don't really resemble the 1985-era models Vilas made either), but they wont be front-line vehicles by that time. The only CVR(t)s used on operations in Afghanistan for the past couple of years were the newly build CVR(t) 2 vehicles such as Scimitar 2, which are all built on an improved Spartan hull. FV430 was last used operationally in Iraq ~2009.

We're already committed to disposing of ~400 FV430 Mk.3 Bulldogs (the upgraded vehicles are called Bulldog: no FV430 was ever called "Trojan"); which is about half of the FV430 fleet. We did want to sell them to a foreign government but I don't think we've had any luck finding a buyer, so they'll probably be sold to private hands or up for scrap before long. Our three Mechanised infantry battalions are replacing the majority of their Bulldog 2 APCs (FV432 Mk.3) in the immediate future with Mastiff and Ridgback vehicles returning from Afghanistan. Those that remain will largely be second-line support communication and command post vehicles in Armoured brigades, until they can also be replaced completely by FRES SV/UV or Warrior ABSV conversions in the 2020s.

Some light reconnaissance battalions are already being re-roled to use Jackal and Coyote vehicles instead of their Scimitar and Spartan vehicles. The armoured reconnaissance battalions will have theirs replaced by FRES Scout SV from 2018. IIRC we're selling a load of the CVR(t)s currently going out of service to Jordan, but there are also a few being snapped up by private collectors.

The FV101 Scorpion (most of the screenshots are of Scorpion, not Scimitar) hasn't been in use by any NATO country since 2004.

First off, the MI is hella awesome, but it looks a bit too boxy. As in, there are literally square part, which would cause a tremendous amount of air drag during flight. Maybe smooth out those edges around it.

Example: http://imageshack.us/a/img543/8470/8yij.jpg (916 kB)

second, the civilian cars look no whre close to as detailed as ones in Vanilla A3, say, the SUV. Maybe work on the model, and textures to make them more fine tuned, and high quality. This, though, is a rough diamond. This is good stuff. Needs work, but great!

@DarkSideSixOfficial

None of this models is mine - it's all work of Vilas, his addons developed so far for ArmA II / Operation Arrowhead, so I have no real influence on how they're constructed, sorry, I'm just doing retextures of selected assets. The originals may be seen in one of Vilas' threads here, or on his own dedicated forums -> http://www.createforum.com/vilas/

PS. And actually it's not a MI, but a design developed by a Polish aviation company PZL. It's called W-3 Sokol. The general configuration though is similar to Mi-2 as W-3 was meant to serve as a replacement for it.

The FV101 Scorpion (most of the screenshots are of Scorpion, not Scimitar) hasn't been in use by any NATO country since 2004.

Ok, will correct my post then, sorry for ignorance.

@all

Had little time since posted last time, but managed to doodle this and that. Especially happy that I managed to make the emergency services complete with ambulances now done. I also did some more rust and wear to the previously shown Police cars, included a little extra for the Altis International Airport and, wonder what your thoughts are on adding the good old M1 Abrams and Unimog to the AAF?

That W-3 Sokol is good looking. Would be nice if they added some civilian versions, and a transport and armed version for Greenfor, since they don't have but one helicopter.

I have only presented a retexture of the attack version. Vilas original addon contains several other versions of the helicopter (Navy, SAR, VIP, Police), see here. I just need to come up with some original paint schemes fitting Altis and will present those once ready

The textures are beautiful Topas,a little dirt, scratch alot, really gives life to vehicle.

I agree for the unimog and maybe why not a version like this:

I'm not too much for the M1 Abrams, why not take a Leo and do a little futuristic and then take a VCI and put a 105 or 120 mm.

Do not forget that the country does not have the means to have modern combat aircraft.

Of course this is only my opinion

An M1 Abrams i think would look great in AAF colours, also it wouldnt be too modern compared to the other factions. Perhaps an M60A3 could be good also.

Yeah, the Abrams seems a good compromise, although, as I written in the opening post I'd rather have the AAF rearmed with some European armor. Yet, the M60A3 would be an interesting experiment, I should try to do it soon (maybe the older equipment could belong to some rear AAF units or a sort of national guard).

My first thought was Leopards though and I had the 2A5 since the beginning, but it was too sloppy done to be shown. Need to rework it and we'll see how it fits.

As for jets and unimog versions; sorry, I'm only working with what I have - Vilas released models - and there's nothing of sorts in there. If, in the future, this was to turn into something like PRACS, then why not include the work of other authors. For now I'm just doing the textures, maybe once the models are properly ported and overhauled this could be a base for something bigger, incorporating other 3rd party assets. We'll see, for now it's just casual fun ;)

Vilas has no French military vehicles in his packs. Two British vehicles (Scorpion and Trojan) are already there.

Nice work topas, the AAF (as well as the other factions) could really use some extra stuff! I dig the idea of extra roundels/decals/symbols on the army vehicles. The civilian stuff is also great. Keep up the good work man!

Closing - Topas has made no update on this thread since 2013, if it needs reopening you know where the key is. :padlock:
