I think it was an April Fool's thing. I know the video's kicking around, but I just can't find it.

eitherway, you can always model one yourself, thats whats awesome about this game :D

And you're wrong. It's an April Fools joke. Hope they put it in there though. Or at least just put the model in there.

Arma 3’s development started in 2010. Could you tell us some more about the first stage of its development?

Originally, we were playing around with the idea of bringing the authenticity of the Arma series to a more sci-fi futuristic setting. This resulted in a couple of experiments, even along the lines of Arma meets aliens. However, as I suspect, many of our player base will be relieved that we ultimately decided to adjust the direction. Even though Arma 3 still takes place in the near future, with some prototype tech and vehicles, the game is much more faithful to our previous installments. Our obsession in space exploration is now vested in Take On Mars.

Its from the new report in with Marek Spanel.

Legislator;2501499']Why is the texture still ingame?

Because BI has terrible data management...

Every release comes with some "added extras"

Arma1 back in the day had the BF2 HMMWV model and textures FPDR

I feel cheated and ripped off that they showed these aliens in footage prior to the game being released and then decided to remove them.

I based my whole purchase off the back of that promise.

I am disappoint.

Hello there

I agree, how dare the devs lie to us. I was expecting the game to solve all my real life issues too. They've ruined everything now. Ive set fire to my PC and demand a replacement. Im entitled to one.

Lastly, as DM said unused textures and models often slip through the net (although I didnt know about the BF2 one, crikey) so dont assume anything thats found in the files will be included.

Rgds

The Battle:LA aliens were just the worst. They were sooo horrible. I hate the idea of aliens in arma, but srsly, any aliens to avoid those aliens.

How come you didn't like them? I think interestingly they're the closest E.T equivalent to a modern military force that I can think. The thing for me is Arma 3 is further removed from reality by being set in the 2030's. Sure, you have a lot of weapons and technology which is in current use or based off it but for me I like to explore the 'danger' the likes of Professor Stephen Hawking discussed. How broadcasting our position to the cosmos may attract unwanted visitors. Considering the scope of Arma 3, it would be a shame not to include something more fantastical. Although with it being a mil sim, I understand why some wouldn't want E.Ts but we can pick and choose what we like.

You should check these pages:

BLAA Wiki

Unidentified Enemy

I think the BLAA bring a interesting tactical element to play such as command and control reliance, surgically grafted weapons, ELINT (tracking radio signals), water as fuel, DEW (directed energy weapons), orbital insertion and other things. I just find having two opposing sides with different capabilities more interesting rather than a like for like match all the time.

I know im talking about zombies but this is a alien thread but here is my quick question. Will Charon import his undead mod into arma 3.

Also, I think there is an alien mod from arma 2 coming in arma 3, we'll just have to wait till it invades us.:D

Aliens invading earth on a realistic basis is.... unrealistic. There is literally nothing here that is of interest apart from an atmosphere. The very likely thing is that this atmosphere will kill the aliens because oxygen.

Plus, any species of aliens that can get here from another planetary system (which will be -none- of those closeby, because if they were there and that far ahead of us, they would be blatantly obvious to observe.) in short time and attempt to invade a planet will steamroll us without blinking an eye. It would be like the US Army invading roman era britain, but with a logistics train, and orbital bombardement on standby.

You can do aliens tongue in cheek, but if you try them realistically you run into the same problems that all scifi runs into: reality.

Actually B:LA touches upon this and finds a smart way around it. The aliens in that film are bio-mechanical, effectively cyborg so they aren't as susceptible to the same things that an organic lifeform as we know it to be. Interestingly they're after our water as it powers their technology and they may have other uses for it. We can make all kinds of speculation about the supposed capabilities of an advanced alien race but that's irrelevant in a game environment which isn't constrained by reality. I think it's daft to restrict ourselves based on our own arbitrary viewpoint that something shouldn't exist somewhere "just because.." I get what you're saying that you want to 'preserve' a realistic world or a setting somewhat based in reality but bear in mind Arma 3 is more removed from it because it's set in the future and by extension more speculative. Which incidentally is how you can treat some sci-fi or speculative fiction. Moreover, as I already mentioned there are some parallels between the B:LA aliens and modern armed forces. Ballistic projectile weaponry (caseless ammunition and rockets), use of ELINT and drones for instance. I also think some governments have had contingency plans in the past for alien invasion, perhaps even staged small exercises (to test adaptibility/versatility rather than actual E.T contact of course) so it could operate in that context if you're worried about credibility. For me the challenge is facing a more advanced enemy, an enemy with different capabilities and technology that will test and push your skills even further. Much in the same way that a number of players prefer such mods as ACE to make the gaming environment more difficult and challenging (and of course realistic).
