wait and see, officially there is nothing x64 ...

yet, unofficially ... it's heavy experimental wip (work in progress) for server binary ;)

Oh! Server... but I guess the "client" is also getting a x64 overhauling, right!?

I heard DayZ server was updated to a x64 build... But I never put reading into that. I don't care much about DayZ... Maybe a year from now.

... a little update for LPManager again:

The new 'Clear Mem' feature, requires two additional privileges, which obviously are not set per default on every systems accounts (thx dwarden for hint).

This are namely: 'Adjust memory quotas for a process' and 'Profile single process'.

As usually, you can add this two privileges ether via secpol.msc OR by reusing the 'Privilege' button in LPManager (with your useraccountname in editor field, LPManager must 'run as administator' started).

(to use this new features, you have to download the latest LPManager from github)

If you don't need the 'Clear Mem' feature, you dont need this two additional privileges and the 'Clear Mem' button will just be disabled in LPManager.

Maybe, you can cleanup your system a bit (disable background processes, that are not really needed).

(my system works great with only ~40 processes, your has ~80 running :p )

I did when you mentioned it, here it is:

67 avg fps : tbbmalloc = NO ; GMF = NO

70 avg fps : tbbmalloc = NO ; GMF = YES

71 avg fps : tbbmalloc = YES ; GMF = NO

74 avg fps : tbbmalloc = YES ; GMF = YES

Gain avg 7 fps.

Altis test:

@root, thanks for your series of measurements.

I got broadly similar results. I think the improvements are better comparable expressed in relative (percentual relation of fps), instead of absolute (fps difference).

(multiplayer improvements are already planned, i am just still waiting to get access to arma's whole source code :bounce3: )

minor LPManager update:

added a checkBox 'DisablePagingExecutive'

'DisablePagingExecutive' is an registry value, that controls wether kernel memory is pageble (allowed to swap to pagefile) or not.

For systems with enough physical RAM, it is generally recommendet to disable kernel paging for better system performance.

In respect to availability of large pages, disabling kernel memory paging, has a very positiv effect (at least on my system).

You can now easily set/unset this value via checkBox in LPManager (a restart is still required).

I play DUWS more than anything really and the only thing I've changed in the last week is using this memory allocator and the LPManager thing. My frames are doing great the whole way through, but systems like high command, VAS, and custom menus are take long times to respond. Any ideas?

even if I killed ALL services, drivers, processes to absolute bare minimum (just to run OS at all) it shows only 6.5GB of large pages

in moment it starts network services then it goes down to 2.5GB LP and no way how go over

no special caches, ramdrives or anything like that

yet the available free memory is 28-30GB

Windows 8.1 64bit, 16GB RAM, and I don't know how to find pagefile size.

Edit: I figured it out. It has nothing to do with your (amazing) tweaks. It was the ZBE Cache thing.

Watch the workingset sizes of all running processes (process explorer).

I mean any and all , the crucial services you need to be able run network (TCP,DNS,DHCP)

it really don't matter which ones in moment you running little more services/processes the value drops from 6.5GB to 2.5GB it's always 4GB block of LP what ""vanish"" at once ...

I tried ALL and any settings in the "Memory Management" in registry to be sure they not the cause

it's quite surprising as the system shall have 10 to 25GB LP available

68 avg fps : tbbmalloc = YES ; GMF = YES - Stable

74 avg fps : tbbmalloc = YES ; GMF = YES - RC v2

The above was tested with viewDistance=2007.4156 and preferredObjectViewDistance=1289.0558.

1.32/1.34/1.36RC2 (default allocator, w/o GMF tweak):

~74.5/~69.5/~79.5fps

1.32/1.34/1.36RC2 (tbbmalloc, with GMF tweak)

~84.0/~79.0/~89.5fps

in other words: 1.36RC2 looks really promising (while 1.34 was a shoot in the ...)

minor LPManager update:

added a checkBox 'DisablePagingExecutive'

'DisablePagingExecutive' is an registry value, that controls wether kernel memory is pageble (allowed to swap to pagefile) or not.

For systems with enough physical RAM, it is generally recommendet to disable kernel paging for better system performance.

In respect to availability of large pages, disabling kernel memory paging, has a very positiv effect (at least on my system).

You can now easily set/unset this value via checkBox in LPManager (a restart is still required).

One question Fred, if I do not have pg there is no point of doing that right?

Correct, if you don't use a pagefile, this registry value should not change anything.

I have 16GB RAM too, but prefer to have a big pagefile of 1.5 times physical RAM (~24GB).

Together with the new LPManager 'recycle' feature, i have an easy way to defragment physical RAM, without the need of a restart.

Just wanted to mentioned, even tho it doesn't belong here probably that on latest EXP build of Dayz Standalone while having GMF and freds's allocator enabled getting "Initialization error 2" error and game wont launch. On stable build it works just fine. Not a big issue for me since I don't play Dayz just was trying out exp build.

I have 8 GB and windows 7 64 bit, and only 40-50% of ram is used

I have tried

1) Running the new LPmanager, LP FileMapping and DisablePagingExecutive - Recycle on administrator

2) Setting Steam and Arma 3 to admin before running

3) Disabled Windows search

4) Increased page file min and max to 1.5x my memory - 8G as suggested

5) reduced all my background apps (25% of 8G used and only 45% when arma 3 is running..)

6) ran GMF, tweaked rego

7) Memory flush.bats

Im out of ideas i have scrolled through many many pages and that is all the suggestions i have read which haven't fixed the problem. It doesn't seem to be a capacity issue, How is everyone getting solid LP?

Any ideas?

Edit: Fixed! i added the Virtual memory custom size as recommended 12259 MB on both initial and maximum size. I have set the recycle on LPManager before starting the game, and achieve constant Alloc LP (1390M) +, pretty big difference. Can even restart my game and get the same without a recycle.

@kklownboy, thanks for this link. Focussed on large memory allocations directly from OS, but interesting stuff.

@wazappu, thanks for your report.

A pagefile, of appropriate size, is obviously very helpful for windows memory manager to move pages in physical RAM.

The reason is fairly simple:

Without a pagefile, modified memory pages have to be resident in physical RAM (can't be paged to disc)

and if this pages are adversely placed in physical RAM, fragmentation can't be healed well.

Slightly off-topic but I'd advise against running A3 without a pagefile, this kept causing crashes for me, but I did only have 8gb of RAM at the time.

I'm not fred but I can say your session has been perfect. Large pages were allocated in your whole session without any fallbacks. That's a very good thing.
