@TonyGrant, 100% LP available in your log and the timings are mostly ok.

@=[TTK]= Memphis007, the 'process shutdown notification' routine implemented in tbbmalloc, needs some ms to free all this memory regions and to write to log file.

I think it is possible, that the arma process is 'killed' to early/hard on your system. How do you shot your arma process (service) down exactly?

@Numrollen, i use ImDisk too (as temp drive only) and i think this is a very good RAM-disc.

Did you try to run ImDisk in AWE allocation mode (via AWEAlloc.sys)? This mode has a big advantage compared with VM mode:

Memory is locked to physical RAM (not pageable) and will not cause any memory fragmentation.

@lerun, this is how a log should look on a win 8.1 system with 16GB phys. RAM. Perfekt. (something is using 3GB phys. RAM on your system?)

Stutters in A3 Altis-Benchmark are most likely caused by object streaming (section object access, IO file access) and/or VRAM flush problems (fast moving).

Currently, the only way to reduce it a bit, is lowering view distance, object/terrain details and texture quality. This reduces the overall load for object streaming and VRAM.

Currently, the only way to reduce it a bit, is lowering view distance, object/terrain details and texture quality. This reduces the overall load for object streaming and VRAM.

Not sure what it was in that instance, but I have a bunch of small utils running in the background.

The benchmark is fine, running everything on ultra with no problems getting 55 fps average.

There are just sometimes when flying that I get a short stutter of about 1 sec. This will maybe only repeat after a while, so I thought it might have something to do with how loading and unloading of textures is being handled.

I'll try to turn the quality down one notch to see if this does anything for that particular stutter.

Its cool to see somebody trying to help identify potential problem hotspots :)

As I understand it, all I have to do is ensure the arma3server.exe runs as admin, put the malloc command in the startup, and put the latest mallol file in the arma 3 directory for this to work correctly, right?

Tried to unlock SP to LP and can't get it to work on the server. On my personal computer it works fine, but for some reason I can't get it to switch to LP on the server...What am I missing?

you have to ensure, that the "lock pages in memory" privileg is set for the user account/group you use to run arma.

Don't forget to restart your system once (i think you forgot, because your server was up for 20 days, when log file was written).

- select 'Security Settings'->'Local Policies'->'User Rights Assignment'

- in the right windows, look for 'Lock pages in memory'

- add your user or the related group

- restart

- test

... not really much, because the most interesting parts (begin and end) are not present ...

Anything I can do to improve performance?

Keep your system memory as clean and unfragmented as possible, by:

- make some RAM free, disable all not used/nessecary services/appplications

- restart your box more often, at least if you observe fallbacks to small pages in your log file

... hmmm, arma is already able to use much more RAM then 2GB and it does dependend of mission/load ... (even with default memory allocator).

The allocator offered here, is an newer and optimized version of armas default allocator (see initial post for a list of improvements).

The primary goal here is to use the available memory in an more efficient way, in terms of performance.

arma already uses more than 2GB on 64bit OS, it's LAA (large addres aware) and what you can setup over maxmem is only portion of that, engine handles dynamically the rest

also arma since 2008 uses OS filemapping API to address additional memory (up to N GB) if needed

This is weird than. I've lowered my pagefile to 1024MB yesterday to preserve space on my SSD. Weird thing is that since then, whenever I'm playing arma, I get a warning from windows that I'm running low on memory and I should close it. Even weirder thing is that I still have 3GB of memory left when the warning pops up that's why I thought that arma only uses 2GB of ram like in the old days :)

So if arma uses more than 2GB can this be cause by a mod or does the new version of arma suffer from some sort of a memory leak, or the leak is cause by a mod but in any case a memory leak should use up almost all my ram before any warning from windows should popup wouldn't it?

INTERNAL FRAGMENTATION CHECK ADDED:

For further optimizations, i added a fragmentation check to the latest experimental build.

This feature logs around each 20 sec., the amount of different, empty memory blocks from internal lists.

You can help to improve this allocator, by running this experimental binary on your (full) server for some hours:

It would be helpful, if your feedback contains informations like:

- map/mission running

- average player number

- average local AI number

@Denco, it is very likely, that other applications in the background are consuming some of your 8GB RAM.

Check with taskmanager/processexplorer, what applications this are and terminate them, if possible.

Arma currently shouldn't use more RAM than 4GB (max. virt. address space) + ~1.6GB (stream buffer) = 5.6GB.

So, there should be normally enough left, from your 8 GB, on a clean system.

Did you set the 'lock pages in memory' privileg correctly? Did you restart your system once?

you forgot to include in the logging the version of the allocator and your own allocator builds ;) makes harder for me to not mismatch libraries :)

One thing more:

If the user account, which is used to run arma, is in the adminstrator group, then you MUST start arma with 'run as administrator' too (because of UAC).
