[WIP] Video Streaming Mod

Recommended Posts

Awesome. Awesome to the max. This means that you could include, say a copyrighted song from youtube, into your mission without breaking any rules. It would be sweet to have it display a webcam, so you could have video conferencing in your mission.

Looks great, definitely has many uses & all sandbox games benefit from a media streaming mod, like PlayX for garrys mod

Awesome job with this. This could have many nifty (and silly) uses for missions. Imaging watching a briefing that is uploaded and streamed from YouTube, or a propaganda video.

yes, a huge step of immersion for every mission briefing!

I doubt I can get media from within a mission because it has been compressed into a .pbo, but I will try and see if I can. I didn't really think about doing that, if I get it working I will definitely add it.

Hi can you explain again , i get confused that you dont know we already can stream from PBO thats not required , but this youtbe things is fantastic Bravo

we already have this

_video = ["\ca\video_pmc\CP00_intro.ogv"] spawn bis_fnc_playVideo;

waitUntil {scriptDone _video};

we can play videos from anywhere in pbo etc , i thought this was "live stream purpose" like your video above no point using time to redo PBO mission pre-recorded is it ? or am i missing something totally here ?

Oh wow I didn't even know that function existed. Pretty cool I guess. I'll try and see if I can get videos out then.

Is it possible to script YouTube videos into the game without an addon? Maybe using something like initDB to get the videos and using the pip functionality to play them?

No. From what I've tried there is no way to generate complex images or even generate audio with pure with SQF.

Streaming is better than embedded into mission, as it avoids massive PBO files for everyone to download. Great work, hope you release a beta soon for people to play with.

Hey, small update:

I've been on holiday and just started uni again so that's why I haven't posted anything new in a while. I'll be posting a new video soon showing off pausing video and sound, syncing video across clients e.g. jip players joining halfway through a video and hopefully I'll have aspect ratios working correctly too.

holy shit this is awesome! i wish i had this a while ago to make videos with. this opens up a huge spectrum into the armaverse. is it possible for it to be dynamic? imagine a persistent mission where the player keeps going on missions. the commander would be able to upload a briefing for each mission to youtube and the teams could simply load the newest video to receive the briefing. just an idea, but this is still really great, and best believe i will be using this.

Now if we can take live feed from the TV stations, we can play Arma3 AND watch tv at the same time :)

Very cool! Will probably have to use this in singleplayer missions, simply amazing! A lot better than putting all the videos in the PBO's :)

This whole concept is brilliant. I made a mission in ARMA2 using encoded video you could display on the little cell phone, but the video had to be very compressed to keep the mission size from exploding. Using an outside source in an already online game is a very good idea. Now we need a modeler to come up with a theater with seats you "board" so that only your head swivels as in a vehicle. Then you could watch a movie and look around at who else is in the theater with you. Come on addon-makers ARMA3 needs a cinemaplex please.:popcornsmilie:

You did an incredible good job! I still can't believe with my eyes. This days I was thinking if A3 has possibility to import videos in it (..I still havent bought new PC and A3, so I dont know. I will need it for campaign od mod I am working on), and now you gave me the anserw. :)

Just one question: is it really necessary for video to be on YouTube, or can we better just use videos from mission's folder ? Good work for a second time, by the way.

That runs counter to the point of the mod. Packing music/video/etc into a mission can result in very large mission files. This works around that problem by streaming the content in real-time from an external source.

It's a great concept with lots of interesting possibilities, as well as issues such as syncing client streams. So much incredible innovation going on these days, both in Arma 3 and Arma 2!

Unfortunately the thread author hasn't posted since September, nor replied to a PM I sent him a few weeks ago enquiring about progress.

so although this looks absolutely awesome, it may be a while before its released or someone else does it from the ground up.
