No women at all

Recommended Posts

I've been playing in the dev branch for a few moments, and noticed a certain lack of one gender.

I get that there are no female soldiers (even though I would highly welcome them... but this has been debated over and over in this community), however, I am really, really dissappointed to find that there are no female models at all so far? How is the population of Altis and Stratis even there, if there are no women?

Come to think of it, I haven't seen any screen shots or anything confirming that women are in deed in the game... For me this is quite devestating, as I plan to use female characters as part of a future campaign.

Anyone know anything about this? This is worse than there only being one plane...

Actually...

Maybe BI decided to make woman just like man, just replacing the "turrets", if you know what I mean

I'm starting to think that Altis is a tourist resort for people of the same sex... You know... An island fully inhabited only for men... They should add the rainbow flag

Let's face it, only two BIS games came with playable female models and characters OFP:R and ArmAII(OA) and only in OFP:R women were able to use weapons.

Original OFP, Armed Assault and ArmA III seem to share the same tradition.

I had the same thought when I first started playing. In all the awesomeness Arma 3 is, I was a bit disappointed to see no female characters.

It's not just the women, it's the local-looking men. All the civilians are dressed like tourists, not Greeks. Where are my farmers and shepherds?

Very much true... The lack of diversity in local life kind of leaves the whole game a bit dull. The amount of civillian vehicles isn't very impressive either. This has to do with immersion, and it really lacks for me. ARMA II had much more of this, I don't care if they reuse models, as long as they are there!

Women being completely absent is, at least, better than having women yet not allowing them to participate in combat.

Seriously, that implementation was political incorrectness at its finest. Well, probably not worse than the Gay Planet of SWTOR, but, you know.

Well there are lots of countries where women in the army are allowed to fight. Women in combat ( and other ones ).

In the army I've served with women that were more capable than most of men.

I think you missinterpreted the point behind his post. If I understood him correctly, he said that it's better to have no women at all, than to have women as civillians, yet not be able to see them as soldiers. Nontheless, the issue about female soldiers have been debated intensively in other threads, this one is about the general lack of women.

The island looks like a very large resort with all of the current civilians. Hopefully the modding community comes out on top.

well then his logic is flawed because they aren't mutually exclusive. having one is always going to be better than not having either, and in practical terms as well, since you now have female skeletons and animations which can be used to mod in the other half.

The game will be out in a week, so do not exspect wonders...and even OFP had one women..."Angelina", but the model was hidden in the editor and not easy to use at all. Relicts from it's predecessors are common in BIS games.

Might not see them at release, but I have no fear of them not being in at all. They've already shown in-game screens of women, and the classnames for the characters and female uniforms are there. Only thing missing are female voices and a config for them is how I see it :p

Well there have only ever been female civilians in Arma whose faces were hidden from the profile menu if I'm correct. So don't get your hopes up that players will be able to select female faces. Sure, you'll be able to set females as playable but I'm not expecting female soldiers or combat-focused voices. Besides, the dev branch update today was supposed to be all the sandbox content, meaning no more content at release. So, anything beyond the release date is not certain to take place, like females. Any other unused code still there could be obsolete.

I think BIS will probably release women Civs with the campaign in future (I hope), guess they are not ready as yet to be added (probably to do with animations not finished)
