Cyrus-The-Virus 1 Posted August 15, 2002 Hi, When i connect to a server, and i am the only one i type in global channel : #vote admin My_Name I get the word ADMIN behind my name. But now i can't select anything anymore. Cant select role or time duration (if there is any). When new people come in the server i cant see them either but i do see what they are typing in global channel. The only button i can press is "DISCONNECT". when i reconnect then i see all the players that are connected (im not admin then) when they all vote for me the same thing happens again.... Is this a bug or is something wrong ?? Please HELP!!!!!
suma 8 Posted August 15, 2002 What OFP version are you using?
Cyrus-The-Virus 1 Posted August 15, 2002 I am using the 1.75 version. I deinstalled the game and deleted all the registry keys that were left alive. Installed it from scratch. But i have still got the problem. I have all the original CD's so i dont know what could be the problem.
suma 8 Posted August 15, 2002 Does it happen only on one server or on all? What connection have you got? If it happens only on one specific server: Are other people experiencing this problem on the server? If yes, can you post me IP address to that I can check it? How many missions is there in the MPMissions folder on the server? If there is a lot of them and you are the server admin, try reducing their number to see if it will help. Cyrus-The-Virus 1 Posted August 15, 2002 It happens on all servers. I have a 1.5Mb/s DSL connection so that wont be a problem i guess. If there are many missions on the servers i dont know, cant see them because when i am admin and i type : #missions nothing happens. Im not the main admin of the servers, i just vote for myself. just an hour ago, others voted for me and i couldnt do any thing but click disconnect i couldnt even select a role for myself (as usual when i am admin) Another guy had the same problem on the same server. Gamesdomain.co.uk is the name of the server, not the one with the serverlock on it but the public one. Hope this helps a bit.

I have just visited the gamesdomain server and there was admin voted and he seemed to experience no such problems. It therefore seems the problem is rather client-specific than server specific. Do you know anyone that is able to do something after voted admin on the server you are talking about? Does it happen all the time, or only sometimes? Did you find any server where #vote admin would work for you well?
Cyrus-The-Virus 1 Posted August 16, 2002 A friend of mine has no problems at all on the same server. He can be voted to admin and he can do everything an admin can do. It happens all the time. I have found no server yet where it works. I did install the game on another PC and ran the dedicated server executable. I logged in on the server with the REMOTE option in the game, and voted myself to admin, everything worked exelent then. But tried it again on the internet and, no luck! I am behind a NAT firewall, could this be the problem that if you are admin there are other ports used?? if so , wich ports are they so i can test that.... If you need more info, or want me to test some options you are thinking about please let me know. You can also email me at bmaurice@wanadoo.nl

suma 8 Posted August 20, 2002 I have to admit I have no idea what could be wrong in your case. I would suspect some OFP socker network layer problems, but as you say, you can see other's chat messages and once you are no longer admin, you can do anything again - and this shows basic communications are working well. Something must be wrong in the moment you are becoming admin. In your first post you wrote: </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">I get the word ADMIN behind my name. But now i can't select anything anymore.<span id='postcolor'> Normally when you become admin, you should see the confirmation message "Logged in as admin". You should also be able to type #logout, which should result in message "Logged out". Can you tell me if you see those messages? Could you perform some tests on some testing server I would setup for you? If yes, we could arrange some time when we could try to reproduce it.

Cyrus-The-Virus 1 Posted August 26, 2002 Ive tested some things with suma, and we did reproduce the problem. It looks like that the userscreen just freezes! He could see what i was doing, on his screen i selected a role and when i clicked OK his screen was going to the receiving file screen, mine was still on role selection. did not fix the problem, but he will check on it later
suma 8 Posted September 9, 2002 For reference: I was informed by another user he had the same problem. He told me this: </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">I formatted the server hard drive, reinstalled, and have not really had any problems since. Since then logging in is working fine, though i only login as admin about half the time, its usually other players, and they have not reported any problems. I also changed the Start voting parameter to 1 player, from 3. I cant say what exactly fixed it. <span id='postcolor'> I am not suggesting you to take such drastic steps to fix it (and it is even not sure it would be fixed by taking them). I am just writing it here so that the information is as complete as possible here.
Cyrus-The-Virus 1 Posted September 10, 2002 Hey suma, youre back from holiday? how was it? Well as discussed before youre holiday, i reinstalled my system with winXP reinstalled the game, but again no luck, still got the same old problem... I recently kicked out my router with firewall to see if it helped, but again no luck So i still have the problem here, a friend of mine has got the same problem as me. he has got the same system as me to and the same internet connection. Did you already come up with an idea of what is could be?
suma 8 Posted September 11, 2002 I think we have nearly identified this bug. It is very likely related to handling of very large messages over network. (That would explain why some users see it when connected by router, but not when connected directly). In the moment you are voted admin you receive list of all MP mission file names on the server. (That is why it happens only with some servers - around 100 missions is usually required for this bug to happen, depending on their file names).

Routers should be able to transparently fragment oversized packets and reassemle then once they are transferred. Following MS KB article (and articles linked on its end) Â may be relevant. munger 25 Posted September 12, 2002 Just some possibly relevant information: I play on the same Gamesdomain.co.uk public Resistance server that Cyrus mentioned all the time, and every few days a problem similar to (if not the same as) the one he is experiencing occurs. What happens is, if you join the server and it is empty and you vote yourself admin, nothing happens. If you assign yourself to a unit and try to start the mission, nothing happens here either. It is basically impossible to do anything. One thing I have noticed is that the server always seems to do this after it has been heavily used and the player numbers (the list in the player profile section on the left where it shows squad info etc) have grown quite large; around the 500 region. When this problem occurs, it affects everyone who tries to use the server, not just me. It is only eliminated when the server is reset, usually as a result of myself or someone else emailing an admin to do it. This clearly indicates that the problem lies with the server and not with the clients. I have never noticed this problem on any other OFP server. Because if this I have always considered that it may be a problem with just that server - perhaps the configuration or something, so I don't know if it is this or a problem with the Resistance/OFP code that is the culprit.
