zverushka 0 Posted August 12, 2002 Hey guys.. I just got my GF4 Ti 4600- here are my specs now AMD Athlon 1.2 GHZ 640 DIMMS SDR SDRAM GF4 Ti4600 128 mb video RAM 21 Inch monitor (DELL P1110) SB Live! Value. Asus A7A266 with ALi chipset. 80 GB hard disk- 7200 RPM l33t speakers I upgraded all the drivers I get pretty much smooth performance in OFP, but in the beginning of every game, if I look around, it goes very slowly. Only when I looked all the way around does it go smooth. Is this normal with such a powerful machine? I thought a Ti4600 would BOMB everything. It's the same with quincunx antialiasing on and off. FSAA gives no performance hit, but at the beginning, even on the lowest settings, it gets slow. My OFP settings are set to view distance 1100 and terrain detail high. Am I just overdemanding of my card?
ALDEGA 0 Posted August 12, 2002 I have this too. I believe this is due to the fact that the game has to recalculate terrain detail dynamicly. It's not like there's a .wrp file for low quality and high quality. So every time you move, it recalculates the terrain, which costs alot of CPU cycles. I suggest you decrease terrain detail to normal and viewdistance 2000-3000. I would prefer having a system where (when you choose any terrain detail higher than standard), the game would create a temporary .wrp file with the selected detail and would use that .wrp file until the user changes terrain detail in the options screen. Just my 0.02 €
zverushka 0 Posted August 12, 2002 OK, the point is, my Ti4600 is too slow, what should I do to make everything faster?
GhettoP 0 Posted August 12, 2002 I have the same problem. Â I have: P4 2.53 Ghz 256 PC800 RDRAM 64 MB GeForce 3 TI200 Things take a long time to load in. Â It takes forever to exit the game also. Â I tried lowering the terrain detail to normal, but that did nothing. Â I guess I just have to live with this......
kegetys 2 Posted August 12, 2002 What the engine is most propably doing is loading the objects, textures, etc. that get in sight when you turn your head (or move around) Only way to get rid of it is propably to get faster hard-drives or more memory (and adjust the memory settings in preferences accordingly).... zverushka 0 Posted August 12, 2002 Plus, everyone around me is getting WAAAY faster frame rates than me. I trieds adjusting the BIOS, but there seemed to be nothing that would help me in there. AGP was set 4x (max mobo can ttake), etc.. etc.. Kegetys- I understood that, but considering I have a pretty good machine, I shouldn't have these types of slideshows in the beginning of a game. I tried playing battlegrounds (the highend OFP mission) and everything lagged like hell. Could it be that the CPU is a bottleneck, or I need DDR ram? I can afford DDR ram if that's a viable solution. When I spent that 300 bucks on the Ti4600, I thought oprah would run really, really fast. Now, I see it, its really not that good. This looks alot like a driver problem to me, because my hardware is top o' the line, but I think I updated all my drivers. I've got the 29.90 dets, newest sound drivers, windows XP, I flashed my bios not long ago, etc. etc... What's wrong? People with the same machine are zooming past me in 3d Mark scores. I've got a 5000 3d mark score, and a 2500 OFP benchmark. This is just unnacceptable. Maybe I should reinstall XP? Format the disk, its getting a bit clogged up, but I think, nothing to worry about. I've got 1 gig on C free, D is CD rom, I've got 5 gigs on E free, 5 gigs on g free, and H, (my ofp drive) has 3 gigs free out of 15.
zverushka 0 Posted August 13, 2002 Please, help, this is absolute shit this is. A 2500 OFP benchmark for a Ti4600
kegetys 2 Posted August 13, 2002 The benchmark in the ofp preferences is justa quick and raw cpu benchmark, it doesnt have anything to do with your video card...
BoonieRat 0 Posted August 13, 2002 You need to drop an 1800+ in there dude!, or a 1600+ if you're straped for cash!. though there ain't an aweful lot in it... Or why dont you try Overclocking the CPU?. set the dividers to x10 or 10.5, if its a good one it'll do 1400 easy with no mods or better coolin . it'll {B]definatly[/b] do 1333 even if its a lamer like my 1200(266)T~bird... PS. ALi AGP sometimes needs to be activated with 'RivaTuner'. download the 'AGP Checker' from Nvidias website. if you get a reading of zero you'll need to activate it. Heres a link: http://developer.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=agp_memoryapp
zverushka 0 Posted August 13, 2002 Where can I get rivatuner? I get a reading of zeros. This may be the problem fellers. But that's strange. On my old comp, I didn't need to activate AGP. It had a VIA chipset though. Maybe I should buy a new proc. I'm not strapped for cash. Plus, in the BIOS, it says that my front side BUS is 133 mhz. I think it's supposed to be 200 mhz or even 266 mhz.
zverushka 0 Posted August 13, 2002 I just got rivatuner from guru3d, and it says my agp is on. WTF?

zverushka 0 Posted August 16, 2002 bump damn, it's reaal slow round here
BoonieRat 0 Posted August 17, 2002 Sorry dude , been building my new PC. 133 is 266. 266 is just 133 at double data rate. Does Riva Tuner say ALi AGP?. not AGPx4 or AGP x2. you have to go to power user. press the seconb icon from the right on the bottom called 'open matched detonater database'. then expand 'NVIDIA Detonater ##.## w## System Global'. look for 'enableALiAGP' and enter a value of '1' in the box~thing on the right. this should enable ALi AGP. try the mem check again. Downloading and installing the latest ALi drivers (1.90 last time I checked) can cure this as well. a link to Acer Laboritorys incorperated's web site: http://www.ali.com.tw/index.htm What chipset have you got?. is it the ALi Magik?. zverushka 0 Posted August 17, 2002 yeah, ali magik 1 Well, I"m gonna try it, see if it works

amos m 0 Posted August 17, 2002 Hey. I get a prob a bit like this too. I got: Athlon XP 1700+ (1.5) 256 DDR GeForce 4 Ti4200 SB Live DE Can't remember exactly what my mobo is but I'll rummage and get back to ya's. The benchmark I get in OFP is like around 4000 when I'm lucky. 4400 max. Does that sound right to you guys. I'm no pro at optimising my pute.
zverushka 0 Posted August 17, 2002 That sounds perfectly fine. That's actually pretty good for your computer.
BoonieRat 0 Posted August 18, 2002 That frikin good!!, I get 4000 with a 1800+. Glad you fixed it Zev!. it can be as simple as a driver upgrade. what AGP driver you using?. 1.90 is the newest.
