SirSneaky 10 Posted August 24, 2013 ok, one of are coders downloaded a map for a website for arma 3 he has changed a lot of the original maps scrips and spent a lot of time working on fixing it all and know we are being told if we use this map (that we have changed a lot on) then we will be taken to court over a video game that they don't own. now i am just wanting to know befor we make are next move because one we don't want to do the court, be fined and two i would not want to make this harder for new groups to start the own server up. Thanks for reading //Sneaky

kylania 568 Posted August 24, 2013 How much ya wanna bet it's a "life" mission? :) Silly life missions. Just credit the original authors, change the name so you don't confuse others, don't re-release it as your own and don't try to make money off it.
dale0404 5 Posted August 24, 2013 Which mission is it? And taking you to court over it? I doubt that they could very much.
progamer 14 Posted August 24, 2013 If the map has a creative commons license then read into what you are allowed to do with it.
ceeeb 147 Posted August 25, 2013 http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?105256-Why-Licenses-Do-Matter Copyright laws are vary from country to county. I do know that here in Australia, copyright law protects the rights of the author of any "work" unless those rights are given away by licence. Modifying and redistributing a file without license to do so breaches the original author's rights. How likely that is to be enforced is another matter... I'm keeping as many references to the original creator as I can, and I'm commenting at every turn that we've only just made modifications. If the OP does something like that then I'd assume that would be fine. In the end, that's the risk that mission makers make by releasing their stuff to the public for download.
