Good game, but...

Recommended Posts

Why does it seem that game developers have yet to notice that the Cold War is over?! 3 out of 5 action games feature Russians as the bad guys, seems a tad out of date if you ask me. Call me crazy byt USAvsUSSR is getting quite boring after 50 years of it in real life and now its being perpetuated by silly game developers. Do something original for gods sakes... Or why not make a game from the Russian persepective? wink.gif

welcome to OFP community Drusilla, and your first post.

your idea has been presented here a lot of times by fellow Russians. and the end result was all saying, 'After all it's just a game!'

yes, it's just a game, and don't pay too much attention about it. If you want some Russians making great OFP stuffs, check out website called flashpoint.ru

the cold war is long gone, but it's always fun to use it as background since it's one of the time of the 20th century history where 2 great giants battled each other.

OFP isnt so bad in that it is set in the Cold War, but there are others which are set after the Cold War and still have Russia as the enemy. I thought some of the weapons in OFP were only recent invention as well, though i might be wrong. confused.gif

Even historical ones like this always have it from the US perspective, which is annoying consdiering very few actual US troops did anything in the Cold War.

some weapons like G36 is only available after 1985, but it's fun to have those around anyways wink.gif we had a lot of discussion about these too biggrin.gif

OFP is fictional, so I don't see any problem. and since US has most game makers, it will be from US's perspective......

And OFP isnt really about Russia being the bad guy, it is about a renegade russian general trying to take some islands, using Russian soldiers to do this smile.gif

Maybe in OFP2 or 3 well get it from the Russian perspective. biggrin.gifwink.gif Thats what I find is a bit outdated, nearly all the bad guys are Russians.:(

Well, I wouldn't be so sure.

BIS is from Czech. i'm not sure whether the game developers, but at least

their parents have witnessed russian occupation.

So maybe this game might reflect the way they see Russia.

And I see Russia that way, 'cause, look what's happening for example

in Chechnya!

Well, just my two cents.. smile.gif

Chechnyan rebels blow up apartment buildings killing hundreds of innocent civilians at a time, kind of justifies our occupation in my opinion. Im not going to start arguing about Russian foreign policy though.:)

Pity someone wouldnt give us a game where you could play US and Russia, if you can do it in strategy games why not in action games.;)

well, you can do that in OFP. (or maybe i'm just guessing)

theoretically, this involves using text editor to set side of each soldier to it's enemy's. then maybe they can have some good old actions together. the beauti of OFP is that you can have infinite possibilities(well almost).

as i said earlier, www.flashpoint.ru/retaliation is coming up with missions that depict Russians as good side smile.gif

Welcome to the wonderful world of propagating and packaging others real-life glory for people to re-play any way they want as if it were a game (Which it is). Theres been, and probably will be, a game made for every war thats ever happened. Everything from Gettysburg to World War 2, Viet Nam, Somalia, and even Afghanistan. It does get sickening at times. Especially when the war is such a controversial one. confused.gif

I think it is unfair that Russians are portrayed as bad guys.

But think about it: if the Communists would have continued to have their way, would Operation FLashpoint have happened?

Drusilla

There is an editor make a mission with the Russians as heroes and a crazy US general trying to take over Malden Everon and Kolgujeve from peaceful civilians.

Then expand it to a campaign.

Or Join one of the great Russian MOD teams look around there are several.

OFP is what ever you want it to be.

No difference between USSr and USA. USSR wanted to spread communism, USA wanted to spread democracy and both used disgusting methods to do it.:(

i wont release a bit my study (afterall i studied political science in my Law university):

the first thing that does a group that have taken the power (party/land/gvt...) is to defend himself physically (army and police...)and mentally (write a line of policy ect ect).

To defend himself mentally, this group need intellectual and historian:

see what happened after the WWII, all ppl in my country (france) were depicted as resistance:

well hum in reality only 20% resisted to german and the other.... hum the natality peek from the baby-boom begin in 1943 in france biggrin.gif

If u want resume this u can quote M Twain:

The winner write the history.

*sometime it's quite easy and amazing to catch the propagand inside history books*

Well actually we are in a period where US did have the leadership and will rewrite the history.... watch it carefully sometime you can see various thing (but i hope with the new medias like the web it's nearly impossible)
