Arma 2 Free running slowly all of a sudden

Recommended Posts

Hey! So basically my lenovo laptop has been driving me crazy recently. I have been playing Arma 2 Free for quite some time now and it's pretty much awesome. I used to be able to play it smoothly on these settings (On Utes):

View Distance: 1500

Texture Detail: Very High

Video Memory: Default

Interface Resolution: 1366x728x22

3D Resolution: 100%

Anisotropic Filtering: Disabled

Anti-Aliasing: 5

Terrain Detail: Very Low( I hate grass)

Object Detail: Very Low

Post Processing: Very High

But one day, I started up Arma II Free during a project session and when I got home, I realized that it is running pathetically slow unlike before. Now it's just playable at these settings:

View Distance: 1500

Texture Detail: Very High

Video Memory: Default

Interface Resolution: 1366x728x22

3D Resolution: 100%

Anisotropic Filtering: Disabled

Anti-Aliasing: off

Terrain Detail: Very Low( I hate grass)

Object Detail: Very Low

Post Processing: Very High

Also, previously I have the AA options of up to 8, but now the only AA option available to me is Low, and when I enable AA as Low now, it lags like mad. Does anyone have an idea of what in the world is going on?

System info:

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit Service Pack 1 (Build 7601)

RAM: 4011MB

CPU: Intel® Core i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30GHz

CPU Speed: 2292.8 MHz

Display adapters: Intel® HD Graphics 3000, Intel® HD Graphics 3000, Nvidia GeForce GT 525M, RDPDD Chained DD, RDP Reflector

Monitors: Ix; Generic PnP monitor

Screen Resolution: 1366x728 -32 bit

Hard disks(free) C: 508.4 GB, D: 26.2GB

Methods I've tried to make it run faster

- Ran Defragment

- Scanned for malware, spyware and viruses

- Removed unnecessary start up tasks in msconfig.

- Checked task manager to see if any particular process is using a great deal of memory, none found.

- Ensured preferred graphic processor in Nvidia Control Panel is High Performance Nvidia Processor.

- Used CCleaner to clean up unnecessary files and to delete registry errors.

- Ensured that power saving mode is set to "Maximum Performance".

- Updated video drivers to newest versions, old drivers have been cleaned during installation by Driver Sweeper.

- Edited GPU MaxFramesAhead and GPU DetectedFramesAhead in Arma II Free CFG file.

- Switched Windows 7 theme to Windows 7 basic when running Arma II Free.

Can anyone please help? I just want to play it in my old graphics. Thanks!

Back up the Arma2.cfg & Arma2OA.cfg then delete the originals. Delete the .RPT file. Launch the game & let it write new ones.

Test with the default settings (do not change any options yet) by running the E08 benchmark, also check if you have all the AA options in settings. If so tweak one parameter at a time & rerun the benchmark each time, for as long as it runs ok.

If you encounter a problem, exit the game without changing any settings and delete the RPT; run again without altering any settings, then post the RPT in a spoiler; also post the .cfgs in separate spoilers. Check the Event viewer for system, application, and whatever NVIDIA calls its event log if there is one (AMD event log is called "ACEE"). Copy & paste into a text file any error or warning messages that seem related (look at the time stamps, for example), post that in a spoiler unless it ends up huge; in which case zip it & upload somewhere like mediafire.

When you Win-update, Does it update your Drivers? Would be good to check that and see.
