kempinukas 10 Posted June 27, 2013 Will Arma3 support DX11.2 and its features like: tiled resources - allows the video card to use system ram in order to improve texture detail? http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/bg182880.aspx
smiley_ie 7 Posted June 28, 2013 Cant see it happen since the engine doesn't use your PC resource's that are available anyway.
RuecanOnRails 10 Posted June 28, 2013 Microsoft is claiming DirectX 11.2 will be exclusive to Windows 8.1. So I'm assuming it won't happen. Engines usually need to incorporate new directX features in early development it's too late for Arma 3 I believe. It's also nothing new, OpenGL has been doing things that microsoft's DirectX 11.2 is claiming as brand new never before seen features for years. Outerra anteworld. The magic of OpenGL's amazing features textures, fractal algorithms. *of course the engine their developing is oustanding* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afFb2JU45gA Check out the tech demo for it. http://www.outerra.com/ One day I'd hope to see every game use such detailed and smooth terrain. qbert 10 Posted June 28, 2013 (edited) Looking nice maybe Arma 4 will be using it. Arma 4, with an entire planet to wage war upon, and you can launch spy satellites I'd flip a sh*t if BI came out in 10 years and said "Here's earth, and a bajillion guns and vehicles, have fun" On a less-happy note, kinda dissapointed that DX11.2 is a Windows 8 thing, and I also agree with Smiley, A3 doesn't use enough of the normal resources to warrant getting the new DX11.2 Edited June 28, 2013 by Qbert
Dwarden 1124 Posted June 28, 2013 developer's view - situation la Windows Vista DX10 era 68% with Windows 7 , DirectX 11.0+some might installed feature update to partial 11.1 14% with Windows 8 , DirectX 11.1 0.01% with Windows 8.1 , DirectX 11.2 08% with Windows Vista , DirectX 11.0 10% with XPs , obsolete DirectX 9 let's be optimistic and say all 18% Vista/XP users go and buy this year new PC with Windows 8.1 and even more optimistic, let say all 100% Windows 8 owners update to 8.1 then You still on 32% Windows 8.1 , DirectX 11.2 ... any reason to hurry ? not at all ... AntalopeAUT 10 Posted June 28, 2013 Thanks for the conclusive answer, Dwarden-sama ! By the way, I am again addicted to one of your products (first A2, then A2OA, now A3, where will that end ?), where can I claim support for this addiction as I don´t feel able to work anymore ;)
DaRkL3AD3R 1 Posted June 28, 2013 (edited) I don't want DX11.2, I just want whatever that is in that Outerra video!!!! PS: Pay attention to the shadow the MIG is casting. Shadow maps!!! When will BI embrace the newer tech and ditch that old fake looking stencil junk =/ Edited June 28, 2013 by DaRkL3AD3R
