Ekranoplane-Orlyonok

Recommended Posts

Here is a huge project I am working on with sebj from the ArmaDeus team (previously 1 REV):

There is still a lot of work to do, but we hope to release a sort of alpha soon.

The textures and a lot of things have already changed since this video was made, so don't pay to much attention to details.

This is just to keep the community posted about our work.

Looks awesome.

Did you need any scripts for carrying the vehicles inside and does it work in multiplayer like that?

Yes, you need to use some scripts (attach to), but they are included in the mod. It works fine in MP.

@Granolabar: nope, we will release an alpha at some point, so that everyone will be able to test it.

(mais par contre on recrute, donc si tu veux tester en avant première, rejoins la légion!)

@brad7: yes it will be released as a stand alone I guess, as it doesn't really fit within the french foreign legion addon.

As super says, there is a pre-alpha version, we test inside our team before the public realease, but if you wanna had some poreful experiences with our team and our mods, you can join the french foreign legion ;).

Wtf... I lost my ekranoplan in the car park... ;)

Sorry for the textures we'll correct them ASAP.

Don't hesitate if you have any suggestions on the model...

PS : We would like to thank again [APS]GNAT for his help concerning the scripting part for the "floating effect"

Is this the Caspian Sea Monster ?

Good luck with it..:)

No, the Caspian Sea Monster was the first big prototype of Ekranoplane I think: (

).

But it is one of the Wing in ground effect soviet project. This one is cool too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRT-R9BidoM.

(For the full documentary about ekranoplanes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xr8N0Z4Cl0U&list=PL69B0CB4788F64720 (quite good)).

Nice work, I love Ekranoplans.

Got to be for the Iranian side seeing as they like dicking around in small WIGs already.

Nice. BTW, the Russians are also considering reactivating the Soviet era Lun-class ekranoplans. Those carry 8 anti-ship missiles instead of a single BTR. :) Could be rather useful when more ships are implemented, I think.

It's ambitious projects like these that kept me playing Operation Flashpoint and the Arma series from the beginning. Keep up the good work!

at last!

Video showed that it doesn't sail like a ship (at low speeds) or am I mistaken by the landcontact offset memory points (aren't there floating/when in water memory points)?

The main wheel (in the middle) also acts as a 'wavebraker', so if seas are calm or far from beach it should be retracted.

The small 'tail' wheel should be rectracted when in water.

I hope you boys restricted it to fly low? :)

Overall, challenging and amazing project! The weight of project brings back the memories of OFP, where step by step it became... something more than any of us dreamed about ;)

pay attention to the background, it'll explain why:

and since it was one of my projects too, but ended pretty quick, by not being able to properly align schemes in Oxygen, the research results:

Yes off course, for the moment we did'nt worked on the détails ;) but we plan to retract wheels into the water.

not for the moment, it's why we'll have to work few more days to fine tune the behavior of the Ekranoplane.

But If I'm not mistaken this Ekranoplan was able to flight 3Km AGL (but with a lot of fuel consumption..)

wow, thanks, I wasn't expecting such honor!

I have to do some reading, but at least I remember that It could fly without WIG effect, though with limited cargo load and as you say: with extreme fuel consumption.

That's why there was a need to utilise An-225, to transport it faster and further, anywhere where needed - as I call it, the "consomolet's crew rescue syndrome".

Oh, I forgot to mention in my post, where I talked about pushing the limits of the game's engine, Gnat was and is surelly one among those old timers, who did huge part then, what AA3 has now.

I'm glad that he's on your side ;)

Thanks for all the nice comments and the useful pics.

Here is a screenshot showing the new texture sebj is working on:

wADoCgk.jpg?2

I will begin to work on the flight model soon. This should be tough as this beast is neither a plane nor a boat, but a bit of the two! But this is the last big step and after, we should be able to release something.
