Fatigue effects

Recommended Posts

I wear a headset while playing ArmA 3.

My primary issue is that if your moving at "Normal" pace that isn't a turtle walk, your character quickly becomes fatigued... and the issue is the sound of my character literally breathing in my right ear . It's "nails on chalkboard" irritating much of the time. I have to switch to 3rd Person Cam just to deaden the sound of the huffing, puffing, wheezing and choking on spit noises.

Imagine me, standing next to you, while your playing your game and I'm breathing heavily into your right ear the whole time. How long before that becomes unbearable and you punch me in the mouth?

That's what annoys me. I don't want to have to disable the game mechanic itself just to get rid of the sound of it.

This ^^ Ten thousand times over.

The fatigue system fine fine, but the volumes and breathing stuff is just over the top, its almost revolting hearing that it right in your ear. I too am being forced to play in third person camera because its grating on me so badly that I can hardly bring myself to play or test for more than 10 minutes at a time.

I tend to agree, the volume is too much, it becomes a real annoyance. Toning it down a bit would be welcome.

Yes please.

My wife must think I am watching pornos with all that heavy breathing going on.

Is there a vote we can do on this? I´ve seen someones signature having several different polls.

Or you could "extend" the stamina bar, add some intermediary not-so-heavy-breathing-sounds there and leave what we have now for trully exhausted states.

My Brother, I hear your plight,, please sign my feedback below,,, anyone who wears headphones and plays 1rst person could you ever say that the breathing and choking in your ear is not totally annoying?

1rst person is the problem, from 3rd no issues.

yeah if it doesn't get solved I'm going into the sound files and changing, it actually is a game breaking thing to me, and I hate the phrase "game breaking".

Dude right hear (see below) ,,m I'm totally confused as to how people down voted it? I really think they were playing in 3rd person. Or possibly my wording. Maybe someone make a new one with a more clear description.

It does get annoying when going for a long patrol. constantly hearing the "heavy breathing". Very noticeable and annoying compared to A2. Very. Makes me want to play in 3rd person more to avoid the sound.

I have a number of friends who play arma and that are active serving soldiers who think the stamina nerf was too overzealous, and I'm inclined to agree. Standard rifleman loadout, you get completely wasted out of breath after sprinting for about 15 seconds, that is ridiculous

Sweet, yea maybe the description could be better but i think everyone will understand what you are saying. I completely agree. I honestly can´t play in first person for most of the time because of this way to loud breathing and other noises.

It´s just a couple of notches too high.

(voted)

Edit: Made a test run with sniper gear.

I am loving Arma3, but I keep feeling like all the soldiers have asthma. You seem to be unable to jog even 100m without sounding like you are about to pass out and die. Speaking as someone who spent a lot of time running with heavy packs in the past, this feels a bit extreme. The blacking out effects kick in a bit too often - honestly I think you would have to job well over 1km for that to kick in, but I've seen it kick in over far shorter distances.

Spriting flat out in full kit for 15 seconds would've left me winded, especially if I had a guy controlling my character giving me 30 "3 HE underbarrel" grenades and 20 FAKs to lug around.

I feel like the stamina drain for jog is a little too quick for gameplay reasons, but for sprint it's fine.

Oh, I almost forgot the sounds. Yeah, they're too loud in first person, they should be muted (i.e. chop the treble off) and reduced in volume to around 2/3rds or 3/4ths of what we have now. The heartbeat is fine.

I concur, after some testing it seems with a Hat, Uniform, Watch and glasses you can run a maximum of... 160 meters...

I mean come on, they're supposed to be US Special Operations soldiers, not some random kids they found eating cake on the side of the road, with the current stamina system sprinting in a low crouch while under fire to move from cover to cover has become pretty much impossible due to how quickly you tire now.

I didn't think it would get to a point where i have to disable stamina due to how unreasonable it is but it has...

You can run forever so I don't understand what you mean by "you can run for 160m"?

You can't sprint for long but then again - why should you?

Speaking as someone who spent a lot of time running with heavy packs in the past, this feels a bit extreme.

So extreme you can run forever in ArmA3 with 100 kg loads and the only downside is a sound effect?

The normal "running" speed in A3 right now is too slow. Especially if you have little gear. I think that speed should be increased, but should also scale well (if you have heavy gear, you are slower, if you have light gear you are faster). Also the annoying breathing sounds in 1st person needs to go!

The normal running speed in A3 is about the same as sprinting speed in BF3 and is quite realistic.

Fatigue system in ArmA3 is completely arcade and unrealistic as well as running/sprinting movement with no momentum or inertia so at least correct speeds should be kept. It's bad enough that you can go from standing to sprint speed in no time without any transition dodging bullets (can't do that even in BF3), no need to make it worse.

BIS please just revert to A2 system. It was OK compared to what we have now. There have been alot of good suggestions but all we have is porn sound effects, that go away in 3rd person. Since whoever is responsible for the fatigue system has no clue what he is doing just do us all a favor and revert to the old A2 system.

Please.

Have you ever played BF3? The sprint in BF3 is probably faster than the sprint in A3.

Unconstructive whining, you will never get anything done with these posts.

My opinion is that the devs should add momentum to sprint, but make it faster and pull the field of view like five degrees wider when you enter sprinting stage.

That gives a great sense of speed.

Yes. And it seems like that to you because you run only very short distances in BF3. In ArmA3 you have to deal with hundreds of meters.

In fact it gives the exactly same impression of being "slow" when trying to cross Armored Kill maps on foot.

Nonetheless the point I was trying to make that with the whole overly arcade movement of ArmA3 at least speeds should be kept real.

No matter what speeds there are in BF3 you can't just see a dude aiming at you (and realize you have no time to shoot back), hit shift and disappear. Your soldier will not just gain enough momentum in time. In ArmA3 you just hit shift and you already sprint at max speed. Imagine if that speed was increased.

Its not "unconstructive whining". It is the truth tbh.

And good luck giving "constructive ideas". There has been alot of them in this thread and look what that got us.

There have been so many good ideas and BIS seem to ignore everything. Instead they give us various badly implemented effects that do nothing to punish you for running 10 laps around the island then go into a firefight with no drawbacks. When you see the state of some things in the game even after alot of constructive ideas from the community, you kinda loose the will to try and make them understand and just ask for what kinda worked in previous installations.

The breathing sound is extremely annoying.

Various sound mods since OFP had way better samples for that.

At the very least it must be toned down a lot - better yet replaced altogether.

Sounds should be immersive, and fatigue effects should be mostly gameplay affecting - not annoying or disturbing.

The heavy breathing shouldn't kick in until around 0.8 or so of fatigue. The rest should be a heartbeat.

Also, I'd like to see (both for the injured effect and fatigue) a rhythmic or pulsating audio filter that dampens the environment sounds but makes your heartbeat come o9ut more. But this effect should be restricted to more severe fatigue/injuries.

Well audio/visual effects certainly do not work as a fatigue barrier in any way. They just annoy (if you can even say that - they are just a minor inconvenience) but they do not prevent any running forever with silly loads behavior.

Why can't BIS just do something for gameplay for once?
