WIP Sahrani Arma2 Port / Arma 1 Buildings Project

- Working roads for AI

- All A1 Buildings with Collision issues fixed

I don't remember you saying anything about this before, but I may have missed it... Does this mean that AI vehicles can cross the bridges now? There were a couple (well...at lest one north of the border) where they fell through the bridge into the valley.

Not sure if it's working right now, but we can fix them up real quick if not. Will do some testing.

So, did some testing tonight, not quite as perfect as we'd like so there is def some more fine tuning work to be done.

Lots of the bridges are missing pathing which is ok if it's over land but not if it's over water... so, in the spirit of making anything we touch a release for map makers we're going to find a solution that works and apply it to all the bridges.... They have also lost some of the animation info for destruction so we have to work on that too...

Some of the ground textures need tuning right now some are too bumpy others are too "muddy" driving on...

It looks great though, and we've got lots of building fixes ready. A1 Pubs, Army Huts, Guard Tower, all working great... We have to add climb option to the A1 deerstands, and are going to do a couple of Closed for Open existing model swaps.

QUESTION. For DayZ we can not do 1 for 1 A2 open barrack for A1 closed barrack because it would mean literally thousands of high end guns all over the map, but I'd imagine for A2 having all open Barracks might be ok.

What do you all think?

Open buildings should be fine, we're doing all the LODs and pathing etc so AI should love them. But we really haven't gotten too many done at all... we have LOTS that are 60pct done, and a couple that are 80-90% done, but none that I feel are upto this communities standards as yet. So we will hold off on adding any of the buildings we've done till they are at least as good as stock A2 buildings. We want destruction models, fire LOD's, working glass, properly animated doors etc...

Our main problem is we have NOT ONE modeller that can do it from rooter to tooter, our only guy who finishes models is our main programmer for the DayZ Project, and frankly other than MilkM8n he's doing almost ALL the work.

We NEED NEED NEED some experienced modellers and texture artists to relieve some of the strain on Seven.

If anyone wants to lend a hand, or even point us in the direction of some previously done MLOD buildings we can contact the authors on that would be great. Otherwise that project is going to have an odd pace... we do buildings that are good for DayZ, and generally don't make them perfect, since no artillery or heavy ordinance in DayZ... so destruction models and fire LOD's are not quite as important... We WILL do them eventually, but we have to focus on getting them just open first... you know DayZ players and their impatient ways lol. Pretty sure they already forgot we exist lol.

Got yet another build last night late from M1lkM8n and will check that out more tonight!

What differences will there be between this mod and the Sahrani of CAA1 ? Am I right in the assumption that this is going to be more polished?

Great Question. I should take some time to update the initial post with more detail.. but to answer your question.

Caa1 was an very broad reaching project in scope mainly dealing with blanket config compatibility, it took ALL assets from Arma 1 and made them loadable in Arma 2. It accomplished this by essentially interpreting the configs of A1 to not crash A2 when loaded into A2. This is why it is dependant on @CBA and @OACCore.

It was then in the community member's hands to do full and proper ports of each individual asset. Caa1 was to get things in a state where they could then be de-bugged and properly ported, and so that mission makers would not lose their missions entirely. Caa1 is also quite a large package and includes all of the content from Arma 1.

In regards to Sahrani as a Map though, I believe this was likely expected to be the end of the road for Sahrani's evolution as a map since not often are map source files given out by BI.

SMD_Sara_A2 is a map and world model porting project it's goal is to have 100 percent functioning version of Sahrani and all it's "natural world" assets for Arma 2. We intend on fixing every last nuance of the map down to rotating or moving a tree that has so much as a single leaf protruding into building... We want it PERFECT. The first release will just the ground texture changes, some building fixes (A1 pubs, Army Huts, Watch Towers, as fixed as they can be, most Retaining walls, and Sidewalks are FIXED)

Further we are also going through the Arma 1 MLOD and taking buildings and opening them up so that long term the map will end up almost (if not) 100 percent open. There are some obstacles in making that happen though, as the map and cities were initially designed taking advantage of the closed buildings by stacking and overlapping them in order to make "new" buildings... So we may have to draw a line in the sand, and say only buildings that are repeated get opened, and stacked/overlapped buildings are left unchanged.

The initial release will look a bit tuned up from Caa1 but have a ton of new opened buildings. We have fixed the collisions in existing open buildings that were broken, and we have fixed pathing for a lot of roads, piers, and pathways.

We will continue to roll out patches more and more buildings are opened or fixed.

Eventually, provided the tools are released, we will begin a full port of the map to Arma 3 as well.

First BIG THANKS for porting Sahrani to ArmA:CO :pc:

I use only .pbo's for Sahrani island (CAA1_*.pbo + OAC_Core.pbo) and I have few questions:

1. If I start game without -nosplash command I have this errors

I post here because I use this .pbo's from Dayz Sahrani v0.2.1 :confused:

You want to say that you don't make any changes on source caa1 and oac files?

No we can't say that, we asked for and gained approval from kju to mod the Caa1 files in order to use them for DayZ Sahrani. If you want to use the same for Arma you should DL and launch normal Caa1 and OAC in order to play Sahrani in Arma.

That is why on Play with Six our mod does not install with dependencies as it originally did.

ALL of that will change once we have our full A2 map port releases... although, the A2 version will be released and used by you guys in A2 before we actually break free from Caa1 on our DayZ Project.... We've put the Arma community first as a gesture of appreciation.

There are a lot of building removals we did on the Caa1 files in order to fit in more enterable buildings for DayZ Play. We had to do a 1 for 1 port of the map for you guys first before we can go back in now and change the buildings as we please for DayZ!

We are honored to have been given the opportunity by the folks at Bohemia Interactive, and humbled by the gracious welcome, help, and thanks we've already received from this amazing community.

As a grumpy old man by nature, it's really made me a bit of a fairy in spirit lately... truly revitalized my faith in humanity, great folks sharing great work and and the mutual love for gaming, modding, and a series of games that have a spirit and authenticity all their own.

Amazing how a War simulator can make me want to run around hugging people...

Well since there are some issues with using RACS as a dependency we are working on some custom RACS stuff for us to use in our DayZ Sahrani project so here are some pics of that stuff WIP:

All buildings and objects that can be called from the CA folder will be. Eventually most of, if not all of the A1 buildings will have destruction models linked or made, and we will ensure all textures are redone to A2 or maybe even A3 (or a middle ground) standards.

The idea is to over time improve every aspect of the A1 map until it is on par with other A2 terrains in terms of completeness and functionality.

Although the letters get mirrored on the other side... for our use it will rarely if ever be seen or noticed, although if anyone knows a fix or alternative w/o going into the model let us know.

We obv. only do retextures and even those we ensure it's A OK with BI first!
