Thinking about joining ARMA III. Is it that good?

Recommended Posts

Yes, don't listen to me.. neither to this other smart guy, but listen to the numbers:

at the moment i'm typing there's 506 users playing on online servers, and 59 of them are using a pirated version, so we have only 450 users of the hundred thousands that have bought the game.

Now you can listen to the numbers.. or the fanboys.. your choice. ;)

Actually now that I think ~500 is pretty much comparing to Arma 2 before DayZ when we are in alpha.

So far i'm loving it. Being a noob is so much more fun than I had thought. Just running through a full map in a full server and still not even seeing anyone. Not knowing where to go lol its incredible. I tried to use the editor but ha that was a disaster. Anyone actually like the game that cant buy it for some reason ?

Oh quick question - How can i show my fps? I'm on 1900x1200 and 120000 shadows / distance and whatever the other one is . Game runs great except for sometimes my fps seemingly will go from 100 - 10 for a couple seconds then it will just start working again.

I use msi-afterburner, it runs in the background all the time, very helpful for quick screenshots or video. Also it will monitor your fps, temp, gpu usage and with nvidia cards I think you can do the cpu as well. It doesn’t do that for my ati card, I have to use ‘playclaw’ for that.

But having msi running in the background gives virtually no hit value, well in my experience with it, so won’t slow your game down. Plus you can set fps limit etc and other things, very useful tool..

I've had issue's with MSI Afterburner and EVGA Precision with ArmA 2 and 3. Stuff like clocks being limited to low power or UVD clocks that require a restart to fix. I thought it was driver issue's at first but it's persisted with both an AMD 4870, a GTX 460 and a GTX 480.

Of course I can't really find an alternative to them that I like other than Overdrive, but I don't have an AMD GPU anymore.

Not had any problems with it at all, running 2.3.1 msi version.

Stopped at cat 12.1 for my card, really performs well, didn’t want to risk changing that.

It was very hit and miss. Come to think of it, since I got this new mobo and cpu I haven't actually experienced that problem. It could have been an issue with my old mobo and cpu, which I know the cpu was bad ( the IHS wasn't on the chip properly and caused it to run at insane temperature's, who knows what other problems it caused. ).

At least 506 people to play MP with - not enough?

I play with 10-20 and it's enough for me.

i was just keeping him from taking your horrible financial advise. "bla bla wait till beta". yea tell him to get the game but wait until it's more expensive. *sigh*

He didn't asked for a financial advice, but if it is "good". I suggested him to wait for the beta to find a more enjoyable game, because at the moment he may get bored after a short time (as it happened for the majority), that's all.

It would be ok for me too (technically you need a single server to play...). I evidenced the number of players to demonstrate that only a small percentage of who bought the game is still playing it, as it appears obvious to me: little contents = getting easy boring = waiting for more contents > beta.

... or bought during alpha to lock in the price (i.e. US$33) with no intent to play until beta anyway? :p

Indeed, but it has nothing to do with this thread. :)

Hello there

@Yak.

I think (if you have the pennies) that grabbing the alpha at this price level is an absolute steal.

BUT, if you want a finished game and full online experience then I'd advise you to get Arma2CO (or any appropriate bundle) as it's a much more polished experience with thousands of mods and missions available as well as being stable.

Get A2 to play now but have A3 in your armoury ready for full release.

Its a response to your claim that there aren't many players and just as relevant.

Many will have bought the Alpha for the low price mainly to wait for Beta or final release.

...that proves what I said: if the majority bought the game only to spend less in the hope of having a good game in the future, It means that today this game (for the majority) is not "good enough" to be played (that was the question made by the OP). As someone else have said, If you aim to have fun today, I would suggest you to forget ArmA3 and buy ArmA2, there's much more players, more contents (obviously) and tons of fun (...to not talk about DayZ Mod).

I'm not "arguing"... Also: this is a forum, it is being read by other ppl that may place the same question, it's not a help desk for a single person.

Pffft, just buy them both (A3 during alpha and Arma 2: Combined Operations) so that you can use All in Arma. :D

Besides, it was a question of "getting into Arma" and making a first buy -- for which "buy it now to lock in the price of only $32.99", or as much as some mainstream games' DLC season passes and a sandwich, is enough of a reason -- not about "how do I keep on enjoying it after I've had my fill of the vanilla alpha content".

...said by someone who's posting only to criticize an user instead of talking about the game... ah, the irony... :)

Actually this thread is EXACTLY that! Im surprised it wasn't closed from the get go. As far as your posts are concerned it's far better to write your butthurt once and once only as we've all been beaten to death over your 2 complaints on optimization. I may have to just shoot myself in the face if I have to read another Rain Man induced barrage of Tourette's little girl demands and whining. Whomever said that White was ballsy for standing up the MAN -I say, join the Force, or enlist in the military for front line operations -that ballsy.

This is more akin to my 5 year old niece in the back seat for a long road trip:

"Are we there yet?"

"soon"

Are we there yet?"

"....soon",

"When will we be there!!!! *screams and threatens* "tell me! Tell me now!!!!!",

"...soon"

Again, this is a forum not a private help desk, if it was only about a single guy, you shouldn't even be here to reply at me, neither anyone else should reply to any other except the OP (that sounds pretty ridiculous).

On a forum someone opens a "topic", but then the topic expands with multiple participants.. it's not because the OP abandoned the conversation that the conversation itself is concluded.

I'm not here to teach to you how a forum works btw, plus we're tremendous OT, so I suggest to stop this personal sh**s and talk about the game not about me (or you).

And /thread.

There has been a lot of problems with people derailing threads, replying to spam, and replying to rule infractions instead of reporting them. If you see someone has derailed a thread, or posting offtopic, report it, and it will be dealt with.
