And even if it hits it won't end the human race, it's not that big.

"And even if it hits it won't end the human race, it's not that big."

Might not end the human race but it could be the end of our civilization.

Then again, maybe thats a bad thing wink.gif Still it'd put a bit of downer on your day if you happened to get bonged on the head by it eh?

I vote we build a massive trans-continental network of tennis racquets with which to deflect the cosmic abomination!

According to this picture, the asteroid

is either very big - almost as big as

Earth - or Earth is about 3 km wide ...

What are you all going to do

the 30th/31st of January 2019?

And where do you think the asteroid

would make the most damage?

Neo, you got to pay me for publishing that picture.

Well at least if it doesnt hit us it will hit some of the satelites that fly in the stratosphere. So you might miss out some of your favourite satelite porn-channels for a few days and probably your GPS might not work. So if you intend to cross the Sahara that week with a container of water and GPS, better....... no, I mean, have a nice trip!  tounge.gif

I think an asteroid would be awesome, especially if it didnt hit anywhere near me smile.gif

I think especially if it hit in the middle of the ocean and caused a massive tsunami, a la Deep Impact, that would be awesome. Especially since I live 600+ miles from and 5000 feet above the coast smile.gif

An asteroid of this size is probably an Extinction Level Event or an ELE or affectionately "Ellie". Global climate change will knock us off the box. We're all doomed. biggrin.gif

The thing is moving at 18 miles per second! What can be done, if it does line up with Earth?

Maybe they could build a huge railgun on the Moon and shoot tens of thousands of earth penetrating thermonuclear warheads at it? confused.gif

Nope, it's not big enough. If it was 10 km or more it would produce a mass extinction, but it is "only" 2 km. The continent were it hits is fucked, though.

Now the scientists have "ruled out the impact" from this asteroid.

Maybe they secretly sent Bruce Willis or Ralph Wiggum to punch the asteroid.
