Quick update on 1.1 (to be released tomorrow or Thursday). Will edit this post within the next hour to include screenshots of the two new camo patterns.

Changelog (Version 1.1; unreleased)

- Fixed config/compatibility issues

- Reworked universal pattern

- Added Katiba as standard rifle series

- Added Marine "sea" camouflage (http://www.royaltigergear.com/images/pla_07_bdu_sea.jpg)

- Added fictional Stratis camouflage (to simulate a possible Stratis Expeditionary Force)

- Added caps/helmets in all patterns

No idea why the Chinese insist on painting stuff in blue camo (especially tanks.. there are already floating tanks, known as "ships") but in any case you'll have a total of 5 camouflage variants, complete with groups in the editor and gear options (e.g. caps or helmets). The Ifrit reskin is finished as well, but it won't work in the Arma3 alpha, so my next task will be helicopters in all 5 variants (6 including standard black).

What else do you wanna see in a PLA mod? OPFOR doesn't get the attention it deserves - let me know and I'll try to make it happen! :)

I'm actually not surprised re: the camo -- do you see even the possibility of a land war being discussed by anyone about a hypothetical in-our-timeline armed conflict with China? It's not really more "out there" than the current Navy Working Uniform Type I, and we have yet to see anything about 2035 China in the Armaverse except having supported the designing of the Katiba rifles.

You know that saying about how the ACU's UCP (aka ACUPAT) was basically good for way fewer environments than advertised? That second screenshot seems to prove that rule with the maritime pattern... now if only the weapons, headsets/NVGs and the assault boat had also been camouflaged accordingly. :p Still, kudos on the work! Let me note that as far as the "posing" of screenshots, the fourth one is by far the most effective at making the soldier appear camouflaged/indistinct against the background... though I suppose that in the third screenshot the soldiers are only "silhouetted" against the smoke from the viewing angle of the screenshot, not from the angle that they're presumably aiming at!

Damn. This is turning into something seriously cool! Can't wait for the new release. That new pattern is looking great, as is the redone standard pattern which blends in scarily well. Now they just need to update the alpha so that the reskinned Ifrit works!!!

RE: Blue Camo, I've always found it a really curious oddity. I guess it owes more to 'brand recognition' than it does to actual camouflage.

All finished with 1.1 - really reworked these guys and focused on detail. You'll see that most of the patterns are complete revamps. Tired of playing in clean, spotless uniforms all the time so I added mud and dirt to give them a grittier look.

Description:

- Retextured OPFOR models depicting futuristic Chinese PLA units (approximately 2035); all units and groups can be found under the "Red" faction.

Storyline

- After nearly 40 years of unprecedented economic growth and technological advancements, China has deployed expeditionary forces throughout the Mediterranean in support of allied Iran's military campaigns.

- Four squads of PLA infantry (standard pattern, arid, woodland, and marine)

Good news! I've been in contact with the VME team (fantastic group of guys!) and they've granted me permission to import their Chinese weapons from Arma2 and use them. Since the weapons themselves are contemporary, I'll retexture them to beige/brown (like the Arma3 MX series) and try to "futurize" the appearance a bit through the use of attachments.

Should have the full range of Chinese small arms up and running for 1.2. :)

That's good news!

Perhaps you could ask Alex for the voice strings and .ogg files as well from Arma 2 PLA MOD?

That's most of the work done for you right there.

It never ceases to amaze me at how talented the Modding community is for Arma! You guys make this already great game worth all the time I've spent goofing off on this this thing. Ive been playing with this game and the mods sense the 1st one Flash point. Thanks for the hard work. By the way and I know I probably missed something somewhere. lol IS there a class list for the troops? Do they all star with

Looking pretty good I have to say. Those QB's will definitely be the icing on the cake of awesome that this mod has become. At the resolution of the pics you've posted they seem to look pretty good. I like how they look a little 'used'... :D

Isn't kongfanxiao101 aka Alex.VP at the VMA PLA MOD for ARMA III (WIP) thread?

For anyone wondering -- yes, the QBZ 95 (or QBZ 95-1 at least) can take a "Western style" rail. Heck, here's what appears to be a QBZ 95 or QBZ 95-1 with flashlight, laser pointer and an EOTech with magnifier.

majoris, I don't know if this is intention, but the QJY 88 (Type 88 "GPMG"*) really, really looks like a PKM from that angle at first glance, I had to see QJY 88 photos to tell a difference! And seeing as you've thusfar got the QBZ 95 (but not the carbine, fair enough) along with both the QBB 95/95-1 (Type 95 LSW/SAW) and the QJY 88 is there a particular reason that you seem to leaving the QBU 88 (Type 88 designated marksman/sniper rifle) out for now?

* For people wondering, the leftmost soldier has a QBB 95 or QBB 95-1 whose role is more akin to a squad automatic rifle such as the M27 IAR -- complete with being able to accept the thirty-round magazines of the QBZ 95/95-1/95B/95B-1 in addition to its own eighty-round drum magazine -- while the third-from-right soldier has a QJY 88, a belt-fed machine gun in the same caliber but with a possibly different/heavier loading, so I'd call it analogous to the Minimi/M249/Mk 46 even if the Western definitions of those are LSWs/SAWs/LMGs.

VME Mod already gave me permission to use their old Arma2 weapons - I've been in contact with Alex. The main family of weapons are all imported (listed below) and working, now I just need to tweak the textures and polish the weapons up a bit.

- QBZ95 Rifle

- QBZ95B Carbine

- QBB95 LSW

- QJY88 GPMG

- QBU88 Sniper Rifle

I could really use some config help getting the QJY machine gun belt to animate; does anyone have a template or an idea how to modify the model.cfg for belts?

And second question: To fit the 2035 scenario in-line with Arma3, would it make more sense to have coyote brown reskins of the weapons? Much of the material is synthetic now.
