Why not add killstreaks to the game?

Recommended Posts

Same for me, I just don't like the rude attitude in the answers.

The discussion about this sort of topic has surely been a bit more heated lately, but as someone pointed out in another thread, this is Arma and people have certain expectation when it comes to Arma. And quite frankly (and no offense towards your mod, I appreciate you doing stuff like that), but killstreak rewards, ranks and XP are for me at least the quintessence of everything I hate about modern shooters... the instant gratification stuff..

I think (or hope) BIS still knows where they come from and won't be easily persuaded into adding such kinds of casual shooter elements. Arma has to stay a sand box where you can do whatever you please

I'm quite sure that BIS knows. However, whenever people ask for feature that so blatantly defy *everything* that Arma stands for, then you should be prepared for a vocal resistance. And quite frankly, the OP's suggestion was (considering what I said above) really a bad joke. It so blantantly disregards every facet of what sets Arma apart from other shooters. I'm already unhappy about some streamlining done (which I also attribute to the current version being an Alpha for feedback gathering purposes), but I won't really stay silent when I see this sort or proposal.

I agree. I also think maps should be 1 square km so that we can get those kill-streaks a lot faster and make commentary videos for youtube :31:

1sq mile??? Thats massive, I think all ARMA III multiplayer maps should be played in one street of say 4 houses. Or do you think that's to many house? A 10 streak should deffo be able to call in a nuclear strike using your gun sight.

Kill streaks in a military sim? I fear either you have mistaken the kind of game you've bought or the Arma series is starting to attract the Cod/Battlefield crowed.

UAV revealing enemy locations if i kill a few soldiers? No thank you.

I'm working on a mission were every time you kill some of you increase your rank and dubstep is broadcasted in global channel for 5 minutes. It's going to be the new DayZ and I'm pretty sure BI will hire me... any time now.

I call it ArmABadass(read I'm a badass).

Let's not forget that one of the most popular MP maps back in ArmA, domination, did have a reward based system for how many you killed/towns you took over etc - allowing you to access more advanced kit, vehicles and aircraft. Now, the idea of a CoD/BF3 copy paste killstreak is fairly traumatising, but as a Binowski has hit upon, the charm of this series is that you can tailor it to what you like. I'd defy anyone to say they never once ventured into a domination match, and I consider myself to be rather milsim/realism/coop orientated fanatic, and did enjoy the odd domination game.

I don't personally wish to see any sort of killstreak system incorporated into the game as standard. The beauty is that it can be achieved by the player and some scripting by the nature of the game and what it can do. As a positive side effect, it also gets people involved with the scripting/editing/modding side of the community, rather than asking for 'hand outs' (for lack of a better phrase).

That, or just take personal pride in the fact you killed someone in a large, open scale, setting, where ballistics are modeled, people don't jump around, you don't have autoaim and patience and skill is key..

Very well said. Definitely how I see it.

I think it would be cool if you could get killstreak rewards. Also the ability to customize them.

For example:

3 kills - UAV which reveals enemy locations from a remote camera

5 kills - cruise ship tomahawk missile which you can control and it fires from the edge of the map

10 kills - tactical nuke that you can use your map to pin point the location

What do you guys think?

Can't believe it was this easy. You got em hook, line, and sinker. Good job.

no, no, no, and no. This is an awful idea. If this was implemented instead of people working as a team they would just bum rush eachother trying to get those killstreaks. I am not scared to say i play cod. BUT THIS IS NOT COD. Let COD be COD and let ARMA be ARMA.

DOMINATING! I loved hearing that... With arma's current voice acting I doubt they could pull it off though, it probably would sound something like "Jolly good show" :butbut:

we already have killstreaks, they are called CAS and consist of choppers, jets mortars, uavs, reapers, etc. so why do we need to get them? we just wait for BIS and modders to implement them and where fine :)

People fail to realize that the ArmA series is the most realistic military simulator on the market.

For crying out loud, armies use VBS2 (I'm personally quite familiar with VBS2 Fires) to train military personnel in specialist roles.

....and some people want to add kill streaks that enable UAVs and a Pavelow. I'm not sure whether to throw up or weep.

Probably because today there has been a new account about once a minute, and they're all creating new threads asking for Lite invites. The mods are probably trying different ways of combating them so they don't have to sit here refreshing all day.

Someone is clearly farming them for something, though all I can think of is a streamer/youtuber wanting more subscriptions. They can't really be worth much money, right?

Welcome to the new age of ArmA and the advancing community.

In real life they don't give you air support because you're doing well, they send it when you're getting blow to hell and need back up.

How about that if your team is getting the Sh*t blown out of them and you've racked up twenty deaths you may be eligible for a Helicopter gunship to fire a few rounds at the approximate hostile position from a Kilometer away.

Oh and if you are getting owned really badly you can get a tactical nuke! Which destroys the entire island and then the entire world as every nation launches their missiles and creates a global nuclear Holocaust out of panic and fear.

Ignoring the fact that OP was probably bored and wanted to post for some funny reactions, I'd actually be interested playing a mission with this stuff implemented. I mean come on, I know some of you 4k forum post veterans have thought about having good ol' run and gun action in the Arma engine once or twice. It'd be a nice mission idea for some small-scale 24 player PVP. I do have to stand by most people in saying that none of this belongs in the base game. Even OP behind his internet connection knows this isn't the game for arcadey features.
