shaun366 1 Posted March 17, 2013 Hello All, I'm a fairly experienced server admin hosting multiple servers from my rack at home, I've been looking into cloud computing and have only recently signed up to the Windows Azure platform free trial. When attempting to run an ARMA 3 server from a virtual machine (Windows Server 2012) using the Windows Azure platform I see the server within the lobby but when attempting to connect I get an error "Connecting Failed". Checking the logs on the console reveals no connection activity from the outside world. I'm absolutely certain it's going to be a Firewall related problem on the Azure side and may need to get in touch with their support, but I'd like to know if anyone else out there is or has been using the Windows Azure platform, if they've experienced the same problem and how they went about resolving it. Many thanks, Shaun
His_Shadow 10 Posted May 1, 2013 (edited) This problem is client side, I'm afraid. If you open 2302 - 2305 client side you should be able to join. I spent a couple days racking my brain over this. You can check out our server information here Another thing that you will get once you open your ports and are able to connect is your ping time showing 2500 when in game it is a reasonable 30-40 range. This is taken care of by setting the client (arma3.exe) to run as admnistrator. Edited May 2, 2013 by His_Shadow Inserted link
Aciidiux 10 Posted May 2, 2013 (edited) I'm a fairly experienced server admin hosting multiple servers from my rack at home, ... recently signed up to the Windows Azure platform free trial Cloud computing and game hosting don't mach up vladdy. VPS's would work , but they cost ratio's are still insane. Windows Azure http://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/pricing/calculator/?scenario=virtual-machines Large VM (4 x 1.6GHz CPU, 7GB RAM) 730 Hours == $230.40 Why would you even consider it, just plain cokoos. If you are in it for the "Free Tier", I think your going to have a bad time. Your choices really are a) host it yourself b) dedicated server / co-location c) game hosting company / price per slot. Hetzner Online Ag provides Dedicated servers for ~50 euros with twice the capacity. Not going to link because I don't want to get an infraction. Google them up (I'm in no way affiliated with the company). Edited May 2, 2013 by Aciidiux Additional information
