2D editor. BIS, can we get 1.1 scale icons? (Accurately scaled icons)

Recommended Posts

Since the beginning of the ArmA (ofp) series I've found it quite annoying and still do when it comes to trying to place objects with precision. It's impossible.

Especially if the object-icons are huge intersecting squares with a "?".

It has not been to big of a deal before, but A3 loads the island(s) slower, resulting in object-placing being quite time-consuming if you want to preview your changes.

I feel the next best thing to a 3D editor would be to actually have the object-icons properly displayed in a 1.1 scale to the object placed on the map.

Icons are displayed in their true size when zoomed in.

So if the icons were in a scale that is correctly representing the size of the object, things would go 10x times as fast.

Icons could be the object rendered in "wireframe" when you zoom all the way in, but still just be icons.

That would give all an exact representation of the objects positions and shapes. There would be absolutely no impact on performance and it'd help everyone greatly.

We're in Alpha, so it'd be a great time to test things like this.

Is there some kind of limitation to why it's not already like this, or has it just not been done? For a other than official solution, can it be modded in?

Don't know if there is a limitation or if it can be modded but it sure as heck would be useful. Spending hours fiddling and trying to place a fence-like wall is not encouraging. A 3D editor would be even better since you could match things with a garuntee and hopefully move between X,Y and Z coordinates which would make things a lot easier for mission creating entirerly, might even see people trying new stuff such as internal framing by "lego" methods but as long as everything stays guessy 2D....meh.

But yeah, placing and icon only to discover it didn't "lock" as intended, and then run into the possibilities of icons not matching the near exact dimensions is just grrrr.

Why this has never been fixed is beyond me..... it's a massive time waster.

But isn't the issue tracker for glitches and bugs?

It's a feedback tracker. Suggestions can be posted.
