USMC Sniper 0 Posted July 16, 2002 Now I'm not going to make this a poll because there are simply too many war movies to fit into a poll (maximum ten choices). So just post which war movie you think is the best, and tell why you think so. Please do not make fun of other peoples choices as people have different tastes. 1) Black Hawk Down 2) Saving Private Ryan 3) We Were Soldiers 4) Full Metal Jacket 5) Stalingrad 6) Platoon 7) Apocalypse Now Movies I hate: 1) Pearl Harbor (Phooey, yuck, bla) 2) Enemy At The Gates (yes I read the book, if I hadn't, i would like i)

USMC Sniper 0 Posted July 16, 2002 You know, the parts where they were talking about racism ( the part where the women were talking about laundry that said "whites only" was unnecassery)

And I think it was put in there to be a stark reminder of how a man could be good enough to go fight and die for his country...but his wife couldnt use the same laundry as the other wives of his comrades. Social commentary isnt a bad thing. It isnt a bad thing to remind ourselves that we're not that far from a time where something like that was a way of life. Oh ya, RAMBO!!!!!!!! (Just Kidding!<span id='postcolor'> If you want to consider 'First Blood' to be a war movie, it would be on my list too. an excellent film that has been sadly colored by the two POS films that came after it. Interesting piece of trivia: Kirk Douglas was supposed to play Troutman, not Richard Crenna.
Renagade 0 Posted July 16, 2002 Rambo 2 was the best, the first wasnt really a war movie cos he was fighting against some bent cops and rambo 3 was ok the one where all the afghanistans were the good guys and all the russians were the really evil guys. Does anyone know the name of a movie where it was set in world war 2 and involved a load of tanks. The end bit had them destroying a load of fuel barrels to immobilize the germans who were running low on fuel plus it had the actor from kojack in it who went a bit mental when the top of of his tank got blown off and part of the tank squad he was with got annhilated by the germans. USMC Sniper 0 Posted July 16, 2002 Guys, after I mentioned rambo, i said just kidding. rambo is not a war movie, its more of a schwarzennegger type action movie (you know, where the lead character gets all beat up and is covered by rubble, then he slowly gets up missing his sleeves to reveal giant musculized arms, and takes two guns blasting the baddies away, and surprisingly escaping unharmed). Maybe we should add action movies to the list? I
xmurderx 0 Posted July 16, 2002 1.saving private ryan 2.the band of brothers series (ok, its not a movie, but add it all up and its a really long one ) 3.full metal jacket 4.the lost brigade (this was a really well done movie about ww1) 5.stalingrad (I liked this ww2 movie because it was based on the nazis attack on stalingrad, a big switch around for me since I only see the allies point of view) war movies I hate 1.peral harbour (the attack didnt last that long, not enough dog fight scenes in europe) 2.enemy at the gates (if you read the book the movie was based off of (war of the rats) then you would hate it too.) Henry Fonda's cool though Also, one last movie I forgot to mention: Battleground. Its a classic about a squad of troopers in the 101st during the battle Of The Bulge. It was the first war movie that I saw and really liked.

Blaegis 0 Posted July 16, 2002 Well, all the good Hollywood war movies have (predictably) been mentioned here. Of those, I'd have to say that Kelly's Heroes and Apocolypse Now Redux are my favorites. I'd like to add some more esoteric ones: "U-96" (German, WW2 sub movie), "Afghan Break" (Russian, Afghan war movie), "Checkpoint" (Russian, Chechen war movie), "Purgatory" (Russian, Chechen war movie - that's a really nasty one). Some of the movies made in the Soviet time about the WW2 are very good as well. It's too bad that those are pretty hard to come by.
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted July 16, 2002 shit! dammit! I left out what is probably my favorite sub movie. Das Boot. Damn, cant believe I forgot that. As you can probably tell from my last 20 posts, Im not exactly 'all there' tonight

Ok since there has been about 500 of these threads Ill have to say something different. Yes its during a war and there is fighting and good guys vs bad guy so technically I'll call it a war movie. And that movie would be "Predator" , yep the coolest movie ever. It may be hella fake but I have watched it atleast 10 times and I still like it. Whenever it is on TBS I get hooked and have to watch it. Its even cooler knowing that Jesse Ventura is in it and he is a Governer now.
