How can I make a helicopter exfil by AI?

Recommended Posts

So, currently I am working on a small, but difficult mission where you just navigate some intensely opfor populated streets and make your way to the air field. Currently, I just have a chopper waiting there for you to get in and fly away and the mission would "end" there.

What I'd like, is to arrive at the set destination and have friendly AI swing in in a chopper, snag you and then fly away. Is this possible? I have a support module down that is linked to a chopper, but it does nothing currently. it's populated with 2 blufors, but when i am in the radius of the module, they do not do anything. Would it be feasable to have them swing in from an area somewhat far away and land, then you can get in?

I apologize if this has been answered or is a stupid request. I am very new to the editor and just want to make a VERY difficult, but rewarding mission for my friends and I.

Well, maybe not have them fly in, but could there be an AI pilot that would fly to a pre-determined destination when you get in the chopper?

Let's do a simple example.

1. Go into the Editor, and place a civilian down at the Airport and make it "Player" (you will be watching what happens)

2. Place a BLUFOR Soldier unit down somewhere nearby and create a waypoint for the BLUFOR Soldier called "Get In" and put it a little bit far away.

3. Now, put a helicopter unit down on the map, the one that carries troops (Is it called the MH-16?)

4. Create a waypoint for the helicopter called "Load" and put it near the "Get In" waypoint.

5. Create another waypoint for the helicopter called "MOVE" and place it somewhere far far away.

6. Now, go to the Synchronize Tool (I think you just need to push F5) and CONNECT the "Load" and "Get In" Waypoints. It should be a Solid Blue Line that connects them.

7. Preview the mission. The helicopter should pick the soldier up and fly off into the sunset :D (For your mission, you will be playing as the soldier)

AWESOME! That seems to have worked. Is it possible to set it so that it auto-enables this when i get in range of something? Say a building so that it triggers the heli to fly in and get me?

Read this thread. You can set a trigger with a switch that will make the helicopter move.

At least for me it seems the that method of getting troops out when you don't have ai with you only seems to work about half the time. If you seem to have an issue with it sometimes working, setting a dostop heliname; heliname land "land'; in the helicopters init seems to take care of it.

Thank you very much for the link. I will check it out. :)

Okay, so I've been trying the aformentioned method, but every time I do, the heli takes off at the start of the mission and tries to extract right away, but sometimes it takes a good 30 minutes or so to get to the location that the exfil should be, but the chopper has already landed and flown to the end :/

Is there a way to initiate it via being in a certain radius of something?
