7th of the 75th Rangers - Recruiting and Information

Recommended Posts

The 7th of the 75th [7-75] is an established (started in March of 2010) Virtual Realism unit (not a role-play unit) that operates in the same manner that the United States Army Rangers during combat operations, with a few important differences; 7th Rangers don't role-play their ranks or unit assignments - yes we use ranks in the 7th, but they do not matter as much as the position in the team that a person is in, while in a mission. This means no virtual push-ups, or "Officer on deck!" calls or pretending to be in the real military. We try to act like professionals and work together on missions and training, while making the experience as realistic as possible. We attempt (as best we can in a game) to use real-world tactics and training during our operations.

Joining the [7-75] involves several steps; your application, interview and meeting the other members of the Unit are your first steps. Then if accepted you'll start Tier 1 BCT and begin your career in the 7th, once you pass your Probation period you'll be a full on member of the 7th. At the present time we are accepting applications to join from people who have Arma 3 only - and attempting to set up a proper training and evaluation course for them.

* Before enlisting into the [7-75], make sure you fit the requirements:*

-Must be a mature person and speak understandable English.

-Must Have Teamspeak 3 and a working headset/microphone.

-Must not use hacks or game cheats of any kind in or out of the game.

-Must Be Able To Follow Commands and give them.

-Must have ARMA 3 installed on your computer and operational.

-Must be willing and able to download and install add-ons for the above mentioned game.

-Must enjoy working as part of a Fire Team or Squad. Lone wolves need not apply.

-Must be able to think and act as a leader.

-Must be 18 years of age or older.

*What we have to offer!

- 64 man Arma 3 Server. We are in the process of getting Headless Client working.

- Advanced Individual Training (AIT) for duties on the battlefield.

- We also have a Development team that creates different maps for ARMA 3 specifically tailored to our Battalion and our realism concepts.

- A mature group of dedicated members who have been involved in the Arma community for over four years.

*The Realism

One of the main concepts of the [7-75] is our dedication to trying to create a realistic military unit in virtual reality. As a member you'll receive the same respect as anyone else should in the real military, if you show respect to others you will gain it. respect works both ways in the [7-75], we treat others as we expect to be treated ourselves. We don't 'role-play' like some realism units, instead we base our ranks upon service to the Unit, during combat you will be assigned a duty, this usually is where the 'rank' system comes into play; if you are a Fire Team Leader then everyone in your team obeys your orders regardless of his 'rank' in the 7th. We also don't use game-aids like 3rd person view, or friend/foe markers (the little hexagons around friendlies).

* A rank structure based upon the U.S. Army's.

* Positions, Jobs, Duties and Roles in the unit both on and off the battlefield.

* Intense goal oriented missions and training.

* training based upon the Rangers Handbook, US Army Field Manuals and our Arma experience.

Here at the 7th of the 75th we follow the Ranger motto; "RANGERS LEAD THE WAY!" and we intend to do just that.

HOOAH!

Here are some questions and answers about the 7th of the 75th Rangers.

What are the 7th Rangers?

The 7th Rangers is a light infantry Unit that uses a number of different deployment methods to insert and extract from their objectives. As modern light infantry we carry out the duties of reconnaissance as well as direct action against our opponents, the 7th attempts to recreate this form of warfare using the Arma 2: Combined Operations simulator as well as the Arma 3 (Dev Build). We called ourselves the 7th Rangers (Virtual) as a sign of respect for the actual Ranger Battalions who exist or who have existed in the past. We also made sure to say we were 'Virtual' Rangers and not actual Rangers. Our members think it is important to respect actual serving and retired military people by not 'pretending' to be them or their Units.

Do you use snipers?

The 7th does not utilize snipers in its standard operations, firstly because we do not field enough people (a modern Ranger Battalion has several hundred members – of those only about six men are on the sniper teams, no matter what Hollywood says) and we would rather have our members work together as a team to carry out objectives. We sometimes use pathfinders – members who jump in advance of the rest of the Unit to secure landing zones and to carry out reconnaissance of targets and routes – but they do not normally get into firefights. The 7th also sometimes use Designated Marksmen – Fire Team members who engage specific distant targets for their team (OPFOR spotters, snipers, gunners etc) – these members are still part of a Fire Team and are expected to carry out normal duties in the team.

Why don't you have lots of ranks in your Unit?

The 7th operates as a small tight-knit Unit rather than an actual Battalion – our force numbers dictate our ranks and since we do not have a huge number of members there is not need for loads of Officer ranks at this time. In fact the highest ranking member is 2nd Lieutenant. Members who have passed Ranger School (our BCT course) and have their 'tabs' are usually Privates. Those who have carried out significant amounts of leadership are Private First Class and who have demonstrated command skills on and off the battlefield are Corporals. We don't believe in having a whole bunch of 'rankers' running around shouting orders at everyone, our Unit command structure is based upon mutual respect and working together; not role-playing military ranks and procedures. We don't expect people to have to waste hours of their time memorizing military ranks just to be part of our team.

How often do you train?

The 7th is always training! We constantly cycle through our Basic Combat Training (BCT) courses and Advanced Infantryman Training (AIT), brushing up on our skills, improving our abilities and modifying our Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) if required. We hold formal training on Tuesday nights at 1730 Pacific Time (GMT -8), but we also do 'informal' or pick up training whenever we have enough people online. Every member of the 7th is expected to constantly want to improve their skills on the battlefield and we expect everyone to want to participate actively in training.

What mods do you use?

The 7th uses Task Force Radio, All In Arma as well as several other island maps (Isla Duala, Lingor, ect.) and the weapon packs. Yes, it's a lot of mods! We have technical support to help new members get their mods installed and working and have a lot of experience with getting people up and running.

Can I see you guys in action?

Yes we have our own youtube channel; http://www.youtube.com/user/7th75thRangers it shows some of our missions and training. We also allowed interested people to participate in training and/or missions sometimes if they have their mods installed.

What do you expect of Applicants?

Dedication - you must be able to attend training and mission days. Sure real-life is important , but if you want to become a 'tabbed' Ranger you'll make the training and missions and demonstrate your dedication. You have to be able to participate with other members and work as part of a team.

Skill - and the ability to learn - not everyone can operate at night; it's confusing and identifying friend from foe isn't always as easy. Night time HALO jumps are often without NVG's (they get blown off by the airflow) - you're literally jumping in the dark with only your fire team Leads chem light and the horizon to give you visual cues. You have to trust your gauges and use your head or you'll pancake. You have to constantly be adaptable to new and improved training. We change our SOP's as we adapt new methods and weapons. You have to be able to adapt and learn from your mistakes and take criticism without taking it personally.

Good command of the English language - we've had some wonderful guys try to join the team, but they didn't speak English all that well - and during combat that language barrier made them a liability to the team they were with. Worse, it confused them. While we realize that it seems unfair to deny folks a chance to be a member of our team because of where they are from, we also realize that if you can't understand the orders or reports your hearing, or that we can't understand yours under fire; then it just isn't going to work for you or us.

Maturity - most of our team is over 30. Sure we've got some young members (several of whom have left us to join the actual military), but we demand maturity from our members. While we appreciate young people's interest in joining our group we just don't feel comfortable with extremely young people being part of our team.

Equipment - check your computer and internet specs before applying! Go here; http://www.systemrequirementslab.com...-iii/11156?p=a if you aren't able to play ARMA 3 (yes ARMA 3) then you won't be able to play ARMA 2 with our mods turned on - and that means you won't be able to participate in training and missions.

How can I find out more about the 7th Rangers?

Drop by our webpage; www.7-75th.com or our Teamspeak server; la.jestservers.com:7111 password: hooah and get to meet the 7th members.

The 7th Rangers are in the process of evaluating Arma 3 and have set our 64 man server to dual mode (Arma2 and Arma3) as we test Arma 3 and many of its new mods. We're hoping that as the game progresses towards its full release we'll be ready to switch our operations fully over to it. At the present time we are still running our training and missions primarily with Arma2, but we are using Arma3 more often than before as the simulation itself improves.

There are loads of 'new' groups forming for Arma weekly - many of them sound like a good or even great group of people to work with, but most have no idea what is involved with running a group. Servers, webpages, teamspeak, domain names, training, recruiting, repairing games, installing mods, creating repositories, youtube video creation, xml's, mission making - these are part of what is required to make a successful Arma group. Also longevity and maturity make a big difference in how long a group lasts.

The 7th of the 75th Rangers have been an active part of the Arma community since 2010. We operate with weekly training and missions as well as 'pick up' type sessions. Our members are from all walks of life; students, unemployed guys, active military, retired military and working stiffs. We all enjoy working as a team using real-world tactics (modified for Arma) to accomplish our missions. We offer leadership, training, and camaraderie for our members.

We aren't a large team - we prefer to be selective in who joins the team as this cuts down on friction between members and so our application/joining process is a lot longer than in most units (many of who will give you private rank just for signing in on their forums). Our 'tabbed' Rangers have earned them - we are constantly re-evaluating and updating our training and tactics and all our members are always either fighting or training - it keeps our team fluid and ready.

If you think your ready for a challenge - and don't mind leading and learning, then check out the 7th of the 75th Rangers!

The 7th Rangers will be fully moving our Operations and Training over to ARMA 3 on September 6, 2013.

While we may still participate in ARMA 2 missions we will not be directly supporting ARMA 2 after the switch date.

The 7th Rangers will now accept new applicants who only have ARMA 3 to our Unit as we have adjusted our training to ARMA 3, in the past we required applicants to have ARMA 2.

If you're interested in joining a Direct Action Infantry based unit - then check out the 7th of the 75th Rangers.

Phase 4 of Operation Rolling Thunder, the 7th Rangers first Arma 3 campaign is coming up this Sunday. We've learned a lot of hard lessons so far with Arma 3 - especially with some of our mods not functioning all that great after the big update last week. Still, we had an excellent turn out for our Sunday mission with several goals being accomplished.

The 7th Rangers have fully moved into Arma 3 and are continuing to accept new recruits to our Unit. While there are some hiccups still with Arma 3 - we are all positive that they will eventually be overcome.

If you are interested in joining a Direct Force Infantry Unit - then check out the 7th of the 75th Rangers. We've recently updated several of our videos on youtube http://www.youtube.com/user/7th75thRangers?feature=watch so drop by and check them out. The 7th Rangers have switched radio mods to Task Force Radio. This is a significant change, but with the added stability of TFR and the actual support of the mod (much as we loved ACRE it was not 'A3' ready or supported) we decided to try TFR. So far, we are very happy with the result and it adds a whole new level of immersion to our missions.

The 7th Rangers are presently carrying out Operation Wrangler on Chernarus - we're using All In Arma and those old A2 islands for an excellent, high FPS campaign. We are also in the process of setting up a campaign on Sahrani (from Arma1 redone). The 7th offers tech support to prospective members who have never used mods before - we have years of experience with mods in Arma and have several members who are expert at tech support.

Drop by our teamspeak or webpage and get to know the team. The TS information is in the previous post.

We've added a livefeed to our missions and training sessions. They are up live on the regular posted times and for 2 days following. Drop in and check them out; http://www.justin.tv/tritonv12

With the New Year has come some new challenges; several members of the 7th Ranger have deployed (in real life), switched jobs or had increased study loads at University. This means that we've had to re-structure the group and re-assess our training and deployment.

What does this mean to potential applicants? It means that now is a really good time to join, train and progress in the team! We're revising our training - so this means you can have an actual impact on our training and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) which are the basis of how the 7th Rangers operate. It also means greater chances to lead a team.

The 7th aren't the biggest Arma 3 realism unit - that's by choice. We consider ourselves to be very tight-knit - and that means we don't just accept 14 year old's with Arma 3 and a microphone, we want to get to know applicants, and them us, before we offer membership in our Unit, most of us are in for the long haul and that means we want to actually like the other person on the team. That sort of thing is more important to the 7th Rangers than how many 'kills' you can get during a mission.

Drop by our TS if you're interested and get to know the team.

If you're looking for an Arma group to join I'd like to offer some advice; check the group's history (or at least the guy making the recruiting posts). There are a lot of Arma groups that advertise like crazy, make all sorts of promises and then fail to deliver, there's also a large amount of 'flash in the pan' type groups that are around for a month or two and disappear. This turns off a lot of potential members of the community and hurts it as a whole. Get to know the people on the team - see how long they've been active and then make your choice.

Now onto my recruiting stuff;

If you want to be a part of a team, enjoy teamwork, have in interest in real-world tactics and like to see them in use, then check out the 7th Rangers. We've been around for over 4 years and concentrate on Infantry operations using tactical ideas from the Army Field Manuals and the Rangers Handbook (modified for Arma). We are a mature group of guys - most of us over 30, so we understand that real-life can get in the way of your gaming time. We do expect new guys to show up for our weekly training sessions (Wednesday Night at 1730 Pacific time) so that they can acquire the knowledge of our SOP's and become a full-fledged member of the 7th.

Sure you've done Basic before - we understand that and we aren't going to show you which end of the SCAR you're going to point down range - so our training covers things like; making sure your mods are installed, you can read a map, can use XMed to treat wounded and yourself, can give 8 digit Grid locations accurately, have an understanding of your role in the fire team for each position, understand your role in various vehicles we use for transportation, understand how your team works with other fire teams, understand how to use your radio, how to react to incoming fire or an ambush or an IED in or out of a vehicle. Then when you've got that down, we're going to strap a parachute on you and you'll jump out of a perfectly good airplane at 10,000M and land within 50M of a selected landing zone, regroup and carry out your mission - in the dark.

What you won't find is pretend Drill Sergeants making you give virtual pushups, nor having to show the military signs of respect to someone just because they have CPT. in front of their name. We show respect for each other by participation and actually doing something. We aren't a role-play unit, if you want the 'Marine' experience at Paris Island then look elsewhere. We treat members like professionals, not cannon-fodder. Every member has done our training, and every member has to know the job of every other member - this fosters co-operation and allows us to be very flexible in combat and that is the purpose of our team.

Drop by our webpage or TS - the information is in some of my earlier posts and by all means - ask questions, we don't need to BS you.

We are starting up a new campaign. This time its on Sahrani and its a continuation of a previous campaign. Here's a look at this weeks OPORD;

Time: 0130 Local

Terrain: Light Vegetation, Rural

Situation:

The Ceasefire has ended. South Sahrani National Guardsmen have clashed with the SAA in Corazol and the American hostages in Northern Sahrani will surely be executed if they are not extracted. Tier 1 operators (Delta) Have been tasked with the extraction. Extreme AA capabilities prevent Air assets and transport.

Mission:

7-75th Rangers will Infiltrate Northern Sahrani and Destroy a Radio Tower located in a compound just south of Bagango. A large number of civilian prisoners are being held in the compound preventing Airstrikes or artillery from doing the job. Rangers will have to place explosives by hand and evacuate the civilians before detonating. Rangers will have the option of Sea insertion or HALO insertion, though exfiltration will only be possible by air if all OPFOR AA in the area is destroyed.

Sound interesting? We'll be live streaming the mission on our webpage Sunday April 27 at 12:00 Pacific Time.

The 7th of the 75th Rangers base their training and missions on real-world events and attempt to carry out operations as a rapidly deployed light infantry unit rather than a 'Task Force' with loads of tanks, aircraft and support personnel. This allows the 7th to deploy quickly with little to no support and carry out its objectives without resorting to carpet bombing or rolling over everything, in other words; a scalpel rather than a wrecking ball. We train like we fight, and fight like we train and with only a small support element we are able to complete our objectives and extract in a timely fashion.

Sure since its a game, we could call in loads of jets, tanks, artillery and other vehicles and pound the daylights out of our opponents, but we prefer to approach things with an eye to limiting collateral damage. This makes it tough on us sometimes (especially during Urban Operations) but overall, we feel it adds to the intensity and realism of our missions.

A couple of things to note; first off you must be 18 years of age or older. We may make an exception for a very mature 17 year old, but it would have to be an exceptional young person. We have two sessions per week that we expect people to at least make an effort to attend; training on Wednesday nights at 1730 PDT (live fire and BCT for new guys), and mission day on Sunday at 1200 PDT there is a sign in page for members to indicate their attendance. We do have some members that have problems attending these things, and they are aware that it will take them longer to advance in the Unit, but since they can participate when they show up, it isn't a problem for them. While we don't use military formalities ("yes Sir!") we do expect people to know when its 'game time' and not 'fun time' and to follow their Chain of Command (team leads, squad leads, platoon leads) and work with others on their team. Lone wolves need not apply. Applying to join doesn't instantly make you a 'Ranger' either - we have to get to know you and you us, before we even offer you Candidate status in our Unit.

We don't assign people to permanent roles in our Unit - you will move around the various fire team positions and learn how each of them is an important part of the whole. We will also expect you to show some leadership abilities - you may even become a team lead if you have the aptitude for it. We do have a small support group (helo transport and support pilots) but those are all 'Tabbed' Rangers who have gone through another set of training exercises and who are expected to carry out their duties as members of squad unless we require their skills. In other words; everyone fights.

Drop by our teamspeak 3 server and get to know the team (and check out our videos on youtube - we've been so busy we haven't updated them lately) ts la.jestservers.com:7111 Password: hooah

See you online!

Been looking at some ARMA groups/clans and thinking about joining?

How many groups have a concept that is based upon the virtual battlespace? Has thought gone into why that group of tanks, jets and armored vehicles suddenly appeared on the battlefield? Is there an overall concept behind the unit design?

The 7th Rangers are based upon the light infantry concept - a unit that lacks 'heavy' weapons and have a reduced vehicle 'footprint' or requirement for larger scale logistic support. They are high mobility units with the ability to be rapidly deployed and execute their missions in harsh weather and terrain that would limit other forces.

What does this mean to you the prospective member? Well, basically it means that you'll be a part of a fighting force, a member of a Fire Team, and in the front lines of any battle with little to no support from other forces. You'll learn to rely on your team mates, your equipment and your own skills to utilize terrain, weather and light conditions to effectively engage your opponents and quickly and efficiently eliminate them. You'll learn how to lead others in battle and will be a part of a community of like-minded individuals who enjoy 'getting it on' with the odds heavily against them.

What will this require of you? Some time obviously - you'll have to learn how the 7th Rangers operate (it's called our SOP's or Standardized Operating Procedures). You'll learn how we move individually, in pairs, Fire Teams or Squads and what your role in that will be. You'll learn every role in the Fire Team and eventually the Squad. You'll drive, command and gun in various vehicles that we deploy with. You'll become a part of our team - and you'll earn the respect of other members by your participation and engagement as a part of our team.

You won't be required to learn military forms of courtesy ("Yes Sir!") nor will you be expected to call anyone by their rank. Respect in the 7th Rangers is earned by actions, not by a virtual rank. The most important 'rank' in our team is our Rangers Tab - and you'll have to work hard to earn it as we don't just hand it out after a single two hour session. The members of the 7th Rangers take their Tabs seriously, we worked hard to earn them, and continue to work to keep them - and you'll learn that we take that part of the game very seriously. We vote on your progress and even on when we feel you've qualified to become a Tabbed member of our team. This doesn't mean that you can't participate - far from it, but it does mean that you'll want that Tab.

What do we offer?

Training based on real-world tactics and manuals.

Our own custom weapons pack.

Dedicated server.

Dedicated TS.

Non-roleplay military action.

Mature community with multiple interests (we don't always just play A3).

Custom made missions weekly.

Operations in Pacific Time Zone (GMT -8). Wednesday 1730 PST and Sunday 1200 PST.

"Five years on the internet is like thirty 'real' years." A young guy said to me the other day when I told him that is how long the 7th Rangers have been together.

We've carried out training and missions weekly during that time except for some holiday 'down' times. The way we've survived is by keeping to our basic concept; light infantry, and not just letting anyone who applies become a member. It sure didn't seem like 30 years to me...but then, I've been enjoying myself as a part of a great community of wargamers that strive to work together and co-operate.

This means that we want anyone who applies to spend some time with us, in training, operations or pick up type missions; so that we can get to know them, and they us, before we offer them a membership in our team. It cuts down on "drama" and usually cuts out those people who may have a different idea about who we are.

Sure, we could accept everyone who applied. I've watched quite a few other groups with interest in how they approach recruiting. Some go for the 'copy and paste' carpet bombing of anyone who posts a "looking for a...", most of the time I don't think they even read the persons post. Other groups are based around public server recruitment - where they get people on their server and entice them to join their team, this seems to be a pretty good method of recruitment; the only problem I have with it is that we like to use a lot of mods, and frankly, most of our members hate 'vanilla' Arma 3. So it wouldn't really showcase what we do.

So it comes down to people applying, showing up on teamspeak, getting some help downloading and installing our required mods, and then having them join us, sometimes for several sessions, until a consensus is reached with our membership. While this may seem like a lot of time for some folks, it cuts down on people wasting their, and our time. Imagine if the Special Forces in real life accepted everyone that applied...or your local football team.

It wouldn't work. It's pretty much the same with us in the 7th Rangers.

We look at ourselves as a community. We are constantly evolving our training and practices, working with other team members and generally improving ourselves. This means we have training sessions - not like some groups that want you to memorize US Navy ranks, or other useless stuff, but battle drills, movement exercises, convoy movement, vehicle weapons systems operations, medical training, communications training (using Task Force Radio and up to 4 channels simultaneously for example), AT weapons training, map reading, EOD training and so on.

In real life; professionals train. While we don't consider ourselves professionals, we do like to keep our skills up, and our new guys also need to be brought on board to how we operate, so yes; we train.

We also have weekly missions, usually in a campaign type format. New members and applicants are expected to show up for this as well. While we don't expect new guys to be up to speed on everything, we do want to see how they operate in high stress situations. Sort of a trial by fire if you will. This again, gives us a feeling for the applicant and how they would fit into our community.

So, if you're interested in being a part of a tight-knit mature group. Like being crossed trained in multiple parts of the game. Like a realistic experience as much as we can do in game without it becoming too onerous that is.

Then check out the 7th of the 75th Rangers!

Do you want to be part of a team?

Do you want to contribute your skills and abilities to your group, but are stymied by a "rank" system that mostly means you'll be at the bottom forever?

Do you want to see what Arma 3 can do as an infantry simulation?

Do you want to join a community that takes it easy when out of game, but takes the mission or training seriously?

Then check out the 7th Rangers.

We are not a milsim unit; one that makes you roleplay being in the military in and out of the game. We are a realism unit - one based upon using ARMA 3 to test various real-world tactics and techniques - as well as our own ideas. We follow a chain of command during missions and training, but we base this upon what a person is doing in his team rather than a virtual rank system, which we use primarily to make it easier for new guys to know who to ask for help or training, but you won't be expected to call anyone "Sir" or anything like that. Promotions in the 7th are based upon completion of training and by polling the members who will judge if you are qualified to call yourself a "Virtual Ranger" in our team.

Interested? Drop by our website; www.7-75th.com or better yet, our teamspeak; la.jestservers.com:7111 Password: hooah and talk to anyone wearing [7-75] tags. NOTE; most of us have lives and wives outside of the game and cannot be online 24/7 - our most active times are after 1600 PDT (that's 4pm Pacific Daylight Time), except on Sundays where we all show up at noon for a campaign mission.

NOTE: you must be 18 years of age to join, speak English, have a working copy of ARMA 3, a working microphone, a decent internet connection and be willing to download and install mods (we offer technical support). You must be willing to work with others and communicate. The 7th Rangers operate on Pacific Daylight Time (summer) (-7 GMT) but have members from all across North America. The 7th Rangers are not affiliated with the United States Army. (that was recently asked by a prospective member so I thought I'd put that in my recruitment blurb). www.7-75th.com Teamspeak la.jestservers.com:7111 Password: hooah

Sorry I haven't been updating around here much.  The 7th Rangers are still operating after nearly six years of continuous missions, campaigns and training.  We aren't the 'biggest' or 'baddest' ARMA Unit by choice, we prefer to operate as a small Unit carrying out complex goals without loads of logistical support or having people sit around on base waiting to get called in to resupply us.  Most of the 7th Rangers have real-life jobs and responsibilities, and while we all enjoy the camaraderie of the 7th Rangers, we do all have to take care of things in the real world; so we're not always online all the time 24/7.

In the 'virtual' world, the 7th Rangers are still being deployed to the worlds hotspots to carry out a wide variety of missions and goals.  Helicopter insertions and extractions, vehicle operations, Urban Operations, hostage rescue, interdiction, counter-insurgency, SAR, these are our bread and butter.

Want to join a group that is always at the 'tip of the spear'?

Want realism without role-play?

Drop by our teamspeak server and talk to any of our members.

Have a safe and happy Holiday season!
