How to change between stable Arma 3 Alpha versions & release candidates @STEAM client

Recommended Posts

Will opting out of developer build reinstate the standard alpha or do I have to delete everything and re-download again?

It will reinstate the standard alpha.

Thanks for the info. Don't see the point not joining the developer program then :)

How will this affect joining multiplayer games?

Thats the question ... We will need to join also Dev branch servers?

We didn't have to do it for beta in ArmA2, but as this is an alpha and much things can change with no regard to compatibility you better try same version servers.

I guess there is no way to have both?

Just switch back when you want the "stable" alpha.

Leave the game first, if it still doesn't work - restart Steam.

At each beta release, will we be notified by steam of the changes? Or will it be posted in the SITREP thread/alpha hub?

Do you plan on providing a changelog for release candidates, or just major updates? Thanks.

Does it use delta patching now?

At last! I can feel useful.

This is an alpha. It is by definition for testing. I don't expect it to be stable.

I only found this option to opt into the development option last night, obviously i did so and as of yet i haven't had the time to play the game for more than 20 minutes because of my son been sick with chicken pox. Hopefully in a few day's he'll start to feel better and i will have a little more time on my hands on a night to play.

All newly released games in steam should use a form of differential patching.

Some old games still use file replacement patching.

From the news release of the new steam content system:

With the Steam content system that’s been in place for a few years now, if an individual file on disk were modified by a game update, your client had to download the whole file. That can be painful when the file in question is really large. The new system supports delivering only the differences between the old and new files, meaning game updates will be much smaller overall.

Thank you. I assume that it's safe to try new versions with 60-100 kb/s download :D

Yes, the recent 7.5 MB update for the development build patched 2 files that were over 70 MB together (not on my pc to get the exact size).

So are the Devs already patching the game? I didn't see any changes in the changelog in the AlphaHub...

Yay!
