I think the Opfor are fine the way they are, I was reading somewhere but I can't remember this substance they used which could act as Kevlar, and stop any high speed projectile. Never mind it was called d30 gel, this could very well be in this neck brace that Opfor are using and could be quite comfortable. On the helmet it seems to be bulky just because one side has a camera feed and the other a light maybe? At the moment I compare Blufor and they seem to have the same but more advanced Kevlar vest and Opfor only with a non Kevlar/tactical vest, which in turn they might be using d30 gel in their clothing. This is all based on my observations and some knowledge on new technologies that might be further looked into by military's around the world. We do have to remember that their are many countries out there that develop and create new advancements in technology and a good saying is "Technology feeds on itself. Technology makes more technology possible-Alvin Toffler". WWII was a great example on how technology leaped some not believing their eyes what Germany had produced and yet to be built, but enough of me rambling on I leave you with this last quote"“The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking― Albert Einsteinâ€.

"The vehicles and weapons used by the OPFOR do exist, and apart from the ifrit i have no problem with those-"

The 'Ifrit' IS real. It's a prototype Russian security vehicle. Corsair posted a pic of it on the first page.

NO! Keep the OPFOR forces with their current technology that now rivals NATO. If you think Iran is heavily equipped now, wait for Russia and China to enter the Armaverse!

I'm fine with everything, but imo the opfor helmets just look ridiculous, they kinda kill the immersion

The look fine and the helmets are cool as heck.

The only problem I have is the camo pattern and uniform on the nato troops and opfor are too similar. This has lead to alot of FF in mp.

More camo patterns will be available in the future.

Also as a general notice:

Remember that you can switch out the helmet. I am sure a more "traditional looking" helmet will be provided in the future.

Personally, I like the helmet :)

I think their gear looks really cool. The helmets are kind of weird, but as said above perhaps BIS will add another variant, even without the eyepieces. I kind of like the helmet though because it makes them look more sinister. Actually I'd love to see gasmasks added just to make the OPFOR look even more formidable. Not that a gasmask would have any use in-game, currently.

Unfortunately that's what "sells". Coolio "sci fi", "special operator" tacticool stuff.

Ordinary light, regular or irregular, infantry doesn't sell games just as much.

Hopefully mods will fix this while BI will still get their monies from kids willing to play deathmatch 24/7 on a server away from me.

Since the game take place at 2035 I think is not as much futuristic as I think will be, with I prefer (as it is now). So, as other said, modders will do the job, and maybe final game will have also "normal" "non futuristic" gear or guerrilla units.

If you check the field manual (found on the main game menu), under Health, subsection Drowning, you will see that gas weapons are mentioned ;)

Guerrilla units are planed. Plus try adding a vest and a cap to the civilians. They look pretty damn rag-tag rebels to me :)

No they look fine:

Its long overdue, they needed to come into line with blufor..

OPFOR looks fine, what's wrong with them being on par or even marginally better equipped than BLUFOR for once?

And if the story hasn't changed, you're going to get the Greek resistance for all your outdated and improvised weaponry needs.

pretty sure there was talk of bandits, I.E independent.

Independent are probably gonna be rebels and bandits. Those are probably gonna be your ak wielding thugs.

And I am glad we have a game where we have high-tech NON-WESTERN countries. Yes the helmet looks funny but that is about it.

Just to clarify what i mean by this post.

As Trakko said the Units look like they walked of the death star with lazer beam shooters, Tech always fails.

I'm not saying i want to shoot people in turbans I've been there and done that for real it gets old.

What I'm saying is I'd much rather have a believable option for dismounted troops For example

In the British army we don't change any thing EVER, because of our defense budget we had the same helmet for thirty years.

We had the same uniform for twenty years that's not including desert that's about 30 years old too. My point is nothing changes that radically that fast.

back on subject i would say that if the Iranians are operating anything new it wouldn't be internally manufactured it would quite possibly be Chinese or Russian export stuff, the west wont sell them anything any more not with the current political tempo down there. (Yes i know we sold them our chieftains and the yank F14's) but that's old news. They sell pretty much all there oil to china so its more then likely that they would receive payment in arms and materials from them.

I personally believe they would be using export grade or modified Russian / Chinese uniforms.

Ignore the Ceremonial gloves but i mean this is the Iranian war machine now right

http://www.ctvnews.ca/polopoly_fs/1.968077!/httpImage/image.jpeg_gen/derivatives/landscape_960/image.jpeg

So i just can't see them going that high tech in the next twenty years, They should be on par with us NATO at most I mean look at the T62 its an obsolete tank but replace its main gun and add reactive armor and it can stand up to a Abrams nay problem :)

British forces are extending the "lifespan" of pretty much all our vehicles so they will still be around for 2035. So why wouldn't the OPFOR?

I mean if US and UK forces in the game are wearing stuff that looks legit IE 20years from now which i think they do look fine in game

Then why aren't the OPFOR wearing something as believable?

Russian latest gear.

http://images-kitup.military.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/new-russian-army-camo.jpg

Chinese army

http://www.armyrecognition.com/images/stories/asia/china/combat_uniform_ranks/pictures/Chinese_Army_soldier_China_combat_uniforms_001.jpg

Like Russian or Chinese current gear but modified.

Grotesque looking helmet mounted night vision but believable i suppose.

But as a long standing OFP, Arma 1, Arma 2 and VBS1 user I can honestly say that I don't like the SCFI looking bugmen from mars is ridiculous even in a universe with the Comanche in it its not believable or practical.

HOW EVER I do love the NATO stuff its believable and very well polished :)

And any chance of legacy weapons?

Like the FNFAL or AK's they've been knocking around the world for almost 50+ years and i mean the first generation weapons.

So the AK74 or Later versions of the FN would be the same right?

I think it's fine. In the custom missions I've been making, I sometimes re-eguip them with caps, and more basic webgear. It makes them look like a futuristic but still relatively basic military police force. That's the wonder of the customize-able gear.

I think there is nothing wrong with the OPFOR.

I mean, currently, we have helmet that looks WAY more sci-fi than theirs.

For my part i do like the OPFOR outfit. Plus I like the idea of facing a real army and not a bunch of talibs with lee enfield and no armored vehicles

Yes but that's a fast jet heads up display helmet much like the apache pilots with there monocles

Its not for dismounted combat is it?

Nobody uses railguns yet and they are planned as ship weapons. In ArmA3 they are used on tanks. Not a big problem either because it's 2035. During crisis military tech tends to make big leaps.

The only nitpicking I can agree with is that helmets with HUDs fully covering soldier's eyes look silly and isn't something that can be comfortable.

No. But if we have that kind of design in 2013, I think it could be totally plausible that we have helmet like the opfor in 2035.

I disagree see a dismounted infantry an has to carry his 24 hour rations water food ammo and on top of that radio battery's and specialist equipment.

To have something like what your purposing is ridiculous it wouldn't be feasible soon as you make contact with any body of water that's your gear shorting out it becomes dead weight.

I'm a infantryman by trade and I'm telling you its stupid.

Not to mention helmet mounted night vision is heavy enough as it is never mind the ceramic wash basin on your head that supposedly stops bullets.

It would cause more harm then good.

Reasons

1) Tunnel Vision

2) added weight

3) Not robust enough for modern warfare

4) Might as-well just take humans out and insert robotic mechs.

I like the creative freedom that BI haven choosen to follow, i feel that the OpFor is a little Sci-Fi looking, but not something extreme... As long as there ain't having any jetpacks, body enhancements (fx like Deus Ex), and the weaponry looks really nice... So keep it coming BI, more powerfull and advanced OpFor to the front..!!!

I think they are fine, the vehicles aren't fictional and the Infantry doesn't look too bad. But that's just my Opinion.
