INFO: Laws of War DLC Reveal, Update 1.76 RC

PRECEDENCE: Flash

SITUATION

This SITuation REPort marks the 200th of its kind since we released the public Arma 3 Alpha over 4 years ago. Starting with weekly updates, we've recently switched to reporting about on-going development and community activities every other week. It's amazing to us to see the player-base still so strong, and new recruits are joining daily. There's a lot of interesting content headed your way, with the just-revealed Laws of War DLC soon to be released, and the Tac-Ops DLC and Tanks DLC under active development. And never forget about user-generated content - modding is as strong as ever. Thank you all for contributing to the Arma 3 platform!

SITUATION

It's been nearly two weeks since the release of the Laws of War DLC. As of now, we're still evaluating all of your feedback and impressions, and we're also investigating whether we need to deploy a small hotfix. Meanwhile, we're also very much in active production for the two remaining DLC on our current Arma 3 Roadmap: Tac-Ops and Tanks.

PRECEDENCE: Flash

SITUATION

Over the past weeks we have been collecting feedback on version 1.76 on all channels available to us. Based on this we have prepared a hotfix candidate. It includes Zeus instability fixes as well as other multiplayer crash fixes based on recent testing via the special-purpose public profiling builds. Our plan is to roll out the hotfix this week assuming testing goes well. In parallel, the majority of the Arma 3 developers are in the middle of production for the two future releases: the Tac-Ops DLC mission pack and Tanks DLC.

As we approach the next release on our current roadmap, we're getting ready to share a few more details on the Arma 3 Tac-Ops DLC Mission Pack. Meanwhile, our Designers are working hard on finishing all of the 'operations', while the recording of Tac-Ops' supporting voice-acting is currently in progress at our Mnisek studio. At the same time, we're also looking further into the future, with Dev-Branch users already being able to try out some of the platform improvements related to the upcoming Tanks DLC.

SITUATION

Yesterday we published the Arma 3 Tac-Ops Mission Pack to Dev-Branch and we're now starting to collect feedback. Our plan is to publish a Release Candidate later this week. Internally, data lock has been applied, which means all data changes are now carefully evaluated and packed manually to ensure a stable build. There's still a good amount of work to be done, but we can't wait to apply the last layers of polish and officially release Tac-Ops into the wild!

SITUATION

As our brief Christmas break draws near, we're now firstly evaluating the state of last week's Arma 3 Tac-Ops Mission Pack and Update 1.78 release. As part of that, we're likely going to deploy a small hotfix to address some of the reported issues this or next week. Once that's done, we'll start cleaning up our internal systems, lifting data locks, going through the usual 'end of the year' organizational processes, while making sure Arma 3 rolls steady into the holiday season.

INFO: Project Leadership, Community Spotlight, Documentation

PRECEDENCE: Flash

SITUATION

This SITREP breaks with tradition by starting with a brief announcement from Arma 3's Project Lead, Petr Kolář:

"It's been two years since Arma 3's previous Project Lead, Joris-Jan van 't Land, officially announced that I would take over his role as Arma 3 Project Lead. During that time, we've maintained the direction Joris set out, and Arma 3 got in even better shape since then. A lot of credit goes to our outstanding community of devoted players and content creators, but of course also to our dedicated development team, who have worked tirelessly on improving this precious game. Looking back on many great accomplishments, it's now time for me to pursue a different role within Bohemia Interactive, and so I have the honor to name the next person who will pick up the mantle of Project Lead: Vojtěch 'Iceman' Kovařič. I can say with complete confidence that he's be best person to keep Arma 3 moving forward.

Serving as my wing-man for some time now, Iceman was already the development guardian of the upcoming Tanks DLC, while also taking care of many Arma 3 Main- and Dev-Branch updates, as well as handling both internal communication, and some of the external communication (such as these SITREPs). With Tanks DLC, we're looking to introduce plenty of new improvements to the Arma 3 platform. Afterwards we intend to focus on stabilizing the platform and making it more stable for the many talented content creators in our community, which we believe ultimately benefits everyone. Arma 3 is more alive than ever, even though it's been more four years since the initial release, and with Iceman holding the reigns, its future is bright. Thank you for the support and for making the Armaverse better and better!"

Lord of the Bounce, Project Lead (ret.)

SITUATION

We're now closing in on the internal Beta milestone for the upcoming Tanks DLC. This also means that soon we'll start an internal localization lock and all new in-game texts will be sent to our translators. Furthermore, it means our internal build is being prepared for a Quality Assurance check, and after that the build will be closed to new additions from the devteam. All of these are good indicators of the DLC and its major platform update getting nearer to release.

SITUATION

The main news this week is of course the release of the highly anticipated Arma 3 Tanks DLC. Now that it has been set free in the wild, we're evaluating player feedback, and keeping track of issues that might need to be resolved with a potential hotfix. We're incredibly grateful for the overwhelmingly positive response we've received for Tanks DLC so far. It has made us even more excited to continue planning the future of Arma 3.

SITUATION

Last week we've released a hotfix for Arma 3's 1.82 platform update, which was initially deployed together with Tanks DLC. As always, we're now collecting feedback on the hotfix and we'll be evaluating our next steps from there. In the meantime, we're also still defining the exact priorities of our development team in the coming months. This should answer some remaining questions before we can share our future plans for the game. Keep in mind that many of our developers will slowly begin to move onto other projects at Bohemia. That means our next roadmap will be of a much more modest scope than previous roadmaps. Nonetheless there are definitely still several exciting updates/projects in the works for Arma 3!

SITUATION

During these past few weeks, some of our developers have continued to shift their focus onto new projects here at Bohemia Interactive, while the rest of our now slowly decreasing Arma 3 development team has been polishing and optimizing the game, specifically its playable content. Aside from that, after having almost solved a few organizational puzzles, we now have a better overview of our plans for Arma 3 in the upcoming year. This is something we'll be sharing with you, our community, but we don't want to promise an exact date for it yet. However, we aim for this to happen sooner than later.
