Unable to wear enemy uniform?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Apologies if this has been mentioned but I seem to be unable to wear a dead enemy's uniform in the Alpha? I can however wear a dead friendly's uniform. Do I have to enable something or put a module down in the editor for it to work?

Thanks.

Same for me. I can take helmet and pouches, but not the uniform.

I think they removed this features a long time ago.

Oh, ok, i didn't know that. I'd like to know why though, cause that would be a nice feature.

Geneva convention is something I have seen mentioned on here. Would be interesting to see if you could put on a divers suit though.

Why would they allow you to still wear an enemy helmet and pouch but not his uniform? Strange.

Read this Prof:

Can the player steal the uniforms of other dead players in multiplayer?

Dan: We decided to limit this only to uniforms affiliated with a player's side. Although we were considering allowing the player to don any uniform at the start of development, it appeared that such generality would bring some very complex issues with AI and multiplayer rules. Also, it is against the Geneva Convention.

Thanks for the info JP. I understand that it could have some strange MP counter effects.

Yep, it looks fine to me if we're not able to do it. :)

It might be possible to script this.

Thanks for the info.

Its a shame, me and a friend tried for ages to steal an enemy uniform in the E&E coop mission haha :D

You can do it through scripting. It appears to block you through the UI ingame. And I agree with BIS on their reasons, it would introduce some very complex issues.

I understand BIS not wanting in thier released missions and campaigns but it would be nice to see it as a fuction to be switched on or off. Geneva convention or no, its not like our entertainment media isn't already swamped with examples of secret squirel uniform swapping.

Agreed, a modual or something to enable it would be a great thing to see...

Oh my - PLEASE do NOT remove, or "OUTLAW" features in your game because you believe it is "morally" wrong. This is a VIDEO GAME,

I request that the developers please let us know what simple scripts to change to allow modular uniform changing.

Yes, yes, I'm dastardly, I wish to be able to go into enemy lines with solo and steal uniforms or run around naked spamming grenades. I don't care about "simulation". This game doesn't simualte actual war fare, where there is blood, where there is guts, real fear. It's a bloody VIDEO GAME.

SO please, I get why it's removed for the base missions, but for some of us, we'd like to be able to do stuff like this:

Look, I fully support the developers will to create their own vision and spoon feed it to us, but PLEASE, SERIOUSLY CONSIDER not removing or banning features because they're "not realistic" or "Geneva convention compliant".

I'd rather have fun, just saying.

I was able to pick up gear but like you, I was unable to change into their clothes. Personally, Im still having problems with the Inventory on mine, sometimes I can pick up the primary weapon, other times I cant. What can you do.. its still the alpha right?

Good times had by all

I noticed this as well, and began to try it myself.

What I have found out so far:

You can actually wear either sides uniforms if you are playing as a civilian, and possibly as an independent in the future when they're released...

I just want to say, DON'T CHANGE THIS please! I like the idea of being able to wear the enemy outfits while playing as the 3rd party faction, it gives them an advantage that they wouldn't have otherwise (tech-limitations and whatnot).

It's all fun and dandy if you do it, but if you get shot by those that look like your friends the fun is over. There can only be chaos that comes out of this. BIS made the right decision.

Hello there

Regardless of any confusion in MP it could actually add some interesting scenarios.

I do hope the reason to remove the ability to wear enemy outfits is down to a technical reason. The Geneva Convention has little to do with gameplay, how many POW's have you seen taken in game?

I personally would like to see it implemented. If one wears an enemy uniform, one has to take the risks. its no different to using opfor vehicles. In MP you'll likely be TK'd but sometimes it's worth it.

This might be of interest for you, I haven't tried it myself: https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/addUniform

BIS is not spoon feeding us. They give us buckets and you can choose yourself what and how you want to play this game. If you want to switch uniform, make a script in your mission and you will have it.

If you want to know how to do it, this is one of the places you can find info: http://forums.bistudio.com/forumdisplay.php?162-ARMA-3-ALPHA-MISSION-EDITING-amp-SCRIPTING

This needs to be in the game. If it isn't, I hope it's just for technical reasons (like someone else said before). Who cares if it's against the Geneva Convention? Not only is this just a video game, but why can't my character decide for himself if he wants to obey it? His superiors most likely wouldn't find out about it anyways, so what's the issue? Even in real war, I doubt everyone always obeys the Geneva Convention. And like I said before, this is just a game. Don't remove a feature that is missing from far too many games just because of some silly rule of real war.

So it will not be in the game as a default feature, and the reason is AI and MP rules. That doesn't stop anyone to make a mission where it's possible to swap uniforms with the enemy.

Sounds to me that they didn't wish to code in the AI switch or AI stealth items into their game, I've no idea what MP has to do with it at all.
