[SP/MP] Dynamic Whole Map ArmA3 Missions by SaOk

Recommended Posts

Well i tell you did an amazing job with SP and also the coop i play the coop these days more and never use the ai cause they are dumb especially when you tell them not to shoot at a Mi-24 and they still do and get me killed.

Does anybody know where to find the download of Sauerland?

I have the sauerland map the site i got it from does't exist anymore i will try to get the file uploaded to my dropbox i have very shitty net so it might take me a bit will let you know.  You will need All in Arma maps to run it.  There are a lot of visual bugs on it since map is not a port but just ripped out of Dayz mod.

Billy_Cola this mission works on Napf island which is another great map to play on it does have that water bug but only near north east of map and when you add the RHS mod to this and have Mi-24 roam the map you tend to be more careful driving around and the other thing i love when i get blown up by them especially cause i stand there look at them since they are one of my favourite helicopters

Mr. Spanel confirmed jury judged the entries with subjetive taste as I suspected and seems he see nothing wrong with that. So basically the entry content didnt matter unless the judge happened to like the style/gamemode type. They could do as they like without any respect to the entry/work amount. As game reviewing freelancer (for biggest finnish game magazine - Pelit ), I dont agree with that at all. Always looked the positive sides what the game offer and how it looks overall. Not cried after story or something if the game isnt about that. I reviewed arma3 with high score that is the highest rating in metacritic. Instead of bashing poor mission content or bit outdated mechanics I saw the potential under that. As return, its great BIS made sure my work was examined as crappy as possible. They cant even open the SP version.

Thanks community for these many great years, but its time for me to go now. WLA is dead, you can find me in Twitter @therealsaok if interested my work in unreal engine 4. I will add open folder version of WLA SP in first post. You can edit it as you like but conversion for Tanoa or future armas in forbitten.

@SaOk

In case "i got it all wrong"..please excuse me in advance but..

You seem to care more for the opinion of BI's ppl (which coincidentally i don't like them

*too much either from the time i originally bought ArmA 1)..
..instead of the opinion of the majority of this community.

The ARMA 3 (*click) was the reason LOTS of GREAT creators stopped playing.

(maybe we just getting older with more responsibilities/problems..maybe people got tired to beg BI for 10 years)

Other fresh-new (and some of them really talented) people came..but i still think the ARMA 3

..IS poor in comparison with previous titles.

Eventually..you ll do what you think it's best for you..but this community will be the actual loser in the end of day.

*p.s

I personally want to THANK YOU for every little/big thing you've done here

..and i m sorry for the *things i 'll not see in the future (in case *things go as you planned)

Can you add Operation Trebuchet autosupport for this mod ?

I see it still support Eridanus Insurrection but (sadly, very sadly) that mod will not receive any further updates...and I would love to play it as an Halo scenario !!!

And Merry Christmas !!!!! ;D

I would like to thank you for your fantastic mission and also putting support for other maps which makes playing both SP and Coop missions fun.  All the best in the future.

WTF are you saying?

SaOk you have been a reference for lots of people around the Arma mission editing scene.

I think WLA has been the mission that showed us how far can we go on Arma editing.

I've seen lots of good code you built in the past for OFPEC only for the comunity, with no personal interest.

I want to make it public: I built Antistasi because I did see the pontential of Arma thanks to WLA.

I could understand you got simply tired, but saying "I'm off Arma because the jury thought my work is bad" it's a bit... childish, isn't it?

I'm pretty sure you won't just like Arma again because of your moral state, but saying in public this kind of things does not make ny good for you and anybody.

Thanks :) but no that isnt the point. I mean the competition was dealt so sloppy and bad that cant take it. I dont think they even reached to think it was bad, just were too bored to really play it. They just built some half random hype around certain entries and went with them. I should have released my mission to gain more hype too. Not being some old name from the past that people downvoted from early game flaws. It didnt matter the mission had been expanded daily for over year (downvote ratio had got from 12% to near 3% in workshop). Still if you are not interested of the game, you will not like WLA. Tried to continue for long, but just felt so damn empty to put the effort to new features anymore. Got the virtual battlesystem expanded much, expanded mod support much, got own medic/reammo system made, build own PvP-mode quite long and practiced cinema. Same time tryed to dig at least some info from BIS. Still had some hopes up, but nothing. They just saw me as one trouble to deal with. Censorship and very carefull conversations, silence for many simple questions. Everytime I hear(d) MANW mentioned the heavy competition flaws returned to haunt again. I dont get how it was even option that they decided not to comment MANW entries at all. If I would have been sensible, I should have left instantly when the first signs of their poor decisions started to show up. Or at least started to question their values already when they put us to work on community mission pack for Arma2 that also just faded into silence. Stayed naive loyal for too long. They dont really care. They take modders as granted even their game would fail quickly without community effort. Who would play some showcases more than few minutes? I hope they put the jury to design the content for ArmA4 and all sensible BIS workers jump to make their own game for UE4. I saw there is already some BIS workers trying to make own UE4 game during their freetime which is nice.

Still sorry for the rants, I just didnt want to forget the stressfull year of dedication without commenting something. Some ranting is tiny compared to the work WLA. needed. The difference between jury and player votes were too much to handle.

But hope to get the UE4 game to greenlight during early summer. Will try to post small thread to other games section, if having still access. Else Twitter.

But SaOk, no matter how much effort you think BIS and BIS jury put to test your mission, you are old enough to know this could happen, specially with WLA.

WLA "failure" is it has a long learning curve.

I know players that couldnt play WLA more than couple of minutes due to this (getting lost in too many options, too much messages on screen, you know that)

So, it's not a surprise. It's, as I said before, Beethoven showing us the 2nd movement of his 5th symphony in Eurovision contest... and then comes Lordi, has the nordic vote and wins because they are disgised as bugs ;)

I can imagine you were very excited seeing the difference on community votes and telling yourself you are going to get that prize, and finally find yourself extremely frustrated with the result. But it was an expected result, you (and I and a lot of people) were blinded by the votes.

I am not meaning "forget that frustration and return coding", because this kind of feeling does not dissapear just because you want to.

But my honest suggestion is to forget this affair, you have said what you had to say, and be proud because of that wonderful mod support (no one has reached that), the battle system (I prefer to spawn real battles, but, wow, it's a game inside a game), the medical (check mine, has no carrying wounded, but makes a clever use of smoke using your old OFPEC scripts. BTW good use of EH on the anims)... lots of stuff!!! Be proud!!!

I really hope WLA has been a "gaming developing degree" for your success with UE4. I started flirting with those but I had discovered 80% of gaming dev is art, and my art skills are close to nothing....

I currently have 1700+ hours into ArmA 3 as of right now. I can, with confidence, say that around 80% was due to WLA. Between the SP and MP variants I had countless hours of fun that I have you to thank for. I'm new to the ArmA community in the sense that I've only really started to interact with mod developers and mission makers. I can tell you I've been following WLA since it first became WLA and left the title Whole Lotta Stratis for which was the ground work for WLA if I'm not mistaken.

SaOK, I haven't been in the active community that long and I gather you've been a part of it for quite some time. I hate to see you go. :(

I think this affects the mission selection of the community a bit more profoundly as well. There are not to many missions quite like this out there that allow for this kind of stability and zero dependencies (add on top of this the amazing modular capability you've made). The reason why I point that out is because this mission allowed for a great amount of freedom to the individual player to make something to play. I run LAN games for a relatively small coop group, and we don't really play any other missions... because no other promises this kind of experience. Many other missions require ALiVE (or something like it) to run something like this and that is sometimes so harsh on my PC that it crashes in the loading screen because they are meant and designed to be run on dedicated servers... something not everybody can afford or utilize. Meanwhile, I can run WLA with a bunch of friends in coop with practically zero problems. The only other missions we play are "Hearts and Minds" and "Antistasi Altis." Both are also amazing missions with the same criteria I just mentioned... although, I can't save in H&M because I can't become the admin to save in LAN. :/

The 3 missions I just mentioned are the only missions my group regularly plays. So, it kind of sucks to see that it won't be ported to newer maps or updated anymore. I swear, if people sat down and did a full-length playthrough in WLA, the sheer amount of experiences they had in one campaign would guarantee enough material to write a full book-length fanfiction for ArmA 3. I still most certainly will be playing this mission for a long time to come and want to thank you for making this masterpiece. I honestly want to argue against you're leaving but I feel it wouldn't change much and that it would be in bad taste.

I wish you luck on your new project.

Pozdrawiam.

I encourage you SaOk to not let WLA 100% die by forbidding anyone to update your work. If you want to kill the project by all means do it, but I see way to many good mods (from many different games) go to waste because the author wouldn't let their work be used as a building block.

I understand that you put thousands of hours into WLA. I understand that BI pretty much        you over. It's hard mate, but what would make this whole thing really sad is to let all your hard work disappear into the memory. WLA.... what's that?

If your going to forbid any future updates, at least offer someone the chance to pick up your torch and move on. I know you may not know who, but you can at least say, "Hey if you want to continue my work, contact me."

Otherwise, there is going to be unofficial WLA copies floating around the dark corners of the interwebs,

Good luck on your future project.

Whole Lotta Artist!

Your work is really wonderful. I've played some hours in SP on Altis an Takistan and I really enjoyed them. Thank you.

My only problem of that the paradropped teammates continue to fall down to earth without their parachute... A bit annoying... Is it only my problem? I've tried disabling all other mods but the problem remains...

For what concerns your decision to leave Arma, I respect it but I kindly ask you to not let your project die for the stupidity of few morons... What could have happened, should Colombo have renounced to its plan to travel to China going west?

Please, continue it, or pass it to another modder you trust...

Cheers,

JD

Like you know what you are talking about. :D There is only one little silly convenient naive boy and its you (and that one earlier australian with his troll club). Edit: They removed one message above.

Anyway the editor version of mission have been in first post for long. You can edit it freely. But I will boycot Apex-expansion so I wouldnt like to see any public Tanoa conversions. Still its up to modder and anyway the WLA is so full of bugs that you wont be able to run it. ;) And yes its boring. BI dev mentioned that in reply after 8 months. He was agreeing "the other devs", also COOP is crashing in lobby that is my fault. Its possible to crash the game using mission scripts. I wish I would have left that crashing code out. I had things running great in 2014 summer build but then one night desided to add crash coding. Also when player is near towns there is massive loops launched in mission side integrating surface normals. I dont get why they didnt like some stutter fest.

But staying logged out. Still wishing all good times with ArmA3. The upcoming additions really looks very promising.

I think you should have put a lot more work into the crashing script because I have yet to have had a single crash in SP WLA. It happens from time to time in the editor due to a memory allocation failure, but not in WLA. I'll keep looking though. Maybe I should download the COOP version instead?

i think we all know here how much work you put into this its sad to see you leave though this mission really gave tons of fun memories but now i think it will just remain in my memories as a great mission i doubt i could continue playing it after the nexus stamina screwed me up bad in wla x.x

Man i have been playing your WLA on pretty much all the maps possible and on coop and never had any crashes and i run a lot of mods and runs smooth with good fps.  You should not be deterred cause of them there are a lot of things that piss me off in ARMA one is their sway and there was someone who brought out sway fix mod and i was happy.  When ever i show someone this mission they are amazed on how unpredictable the battlefield is one second its nice and quiet and you make a mistake and shoot enemies and forget that there is one sucker left and bam you spend next 15-20 minutes fighting for your life.  This mission, antistasi and hearts and minds are amazing missions reason i like them is you dont have everything at your disposal and as you progress you feel you have achieved something.

Thank you for the great missions.

Well, its just and disappointing BI would endorse handheld linear gameplay over open, persistent single player content. I probably should have seen that coming when the official campaign came out. Now from what I see this is not just a problem on its own, BI itself have probably realized how impossible it is to exercise meaningful coontrol over AI with the stock command system so they just abandoned the style of gameplay altogether. That left you only with a one man army SP gameplay, which doesn't exactly promote a more complex, dynamic campaign.

Their decision to introduce coop for APEX campaign was likely an attempt to address the issue through the use of human player. But I won't keep my hope up for any level of non-linearity.

What I found to be highly synergistic with your mission is this addon: https://forums.bistudio.com/topic/172375-gettactical-a-tactical-rts-interface/

An overhauled AI command that removes the road block for SP squad play. Combined with your mission it makes the SP experience I really wanted. I have the feeling that more people will be on board for SP only if they know this kind of gameplay actually exist.

SaoK, what do you care about BIS? the community tells you how good your work actually is.What is the left? Is it just the financial aspect. So why don't you just sell your product then. I don't know how many people loaded WLA, but if you would sell it for a small amount of money i guess lots of people will buy it. I would because i just play singleplayer and WLA is really the best for it. And i think its ok if you would not like to go on further, but its really childish not to allow others to develop it further... I mean:
"Boy you are not allowed to go out and play football! OK, then i refuse to eat then, and will never eat again.... Come on.

Its bit complicated. I enjoy making content for community, but there is limit for insults I take. Everyone have own opinions, but I just find it insulting that my entries did so bad in that  competition. Anyone can compare how much WLA COOP is played in swec and see that 8 unnamed finalists (which I have nothing against) can be picked, summed and multiplies 10 times. And still mine is more played. At the same time the few BIS workers try to assure they tested all good and fair. I cant stop seeing as they try to prove me that red is blue. They didnt understand WLA COOP at all, so how well they understood SP version that I put most of effort in? Had worked on the consept for years and they liked one week made entry more. I try to ask simple questions and they dont answer anything. I need to have at least some dignity, not to accept that kind of crap. I would never have guts to fool people work for nothing. They hoaxed me to work a year to be skipped for no reason. I lost simple odds at least 8 times in row in MP and at least 3 times in SP. I made mine project for players, I dont see any logic or good aspect in that jury. I dont support company that have no problem to scam long time supporters. They have no honor to accept their fault or they are simply frauds.
