Going back to Melteme - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etesian

Philip II of Macedon used the existence of these winds to his advantage in military campaigns: enemy ships from the south travelling north went much slower during the summer months. I'm being thick here - where is the metaphor?

That piratepad is at maximum capacity. Is there no alternative? A steam chatroom or IRC, for example?

EDIT:

Looking closely at the ArmA cover art, it looks like Mike-26 is being blown up. https://twitter.com/Arma3official/status/307611650746363904/photo/1

Not sure if this is a clue.

ARG is a dead end, and seems like everyone's lost interest. There's no point to continue trying to figure stuff out.

The pleasure, my friend, is the chase.

Really!?

Patience, persistence and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success.

Hope you are referring to the press release Hubbard mentioned. Anyway we have a small group trying to decipher this. Not easy.

I know about the whole 20:00 press release thing. But just sitting at a dead end until someone puts out more info isn't really participating in an ARG. It's just waiting for info. That removes the point of the community being active. I mean, there's one small group that's going in circles to figure this out. And all we're getting are false leads. Most people don't care about this ARG because the Alpha will be out Mar 5th anyway. There needs to be an incentive to participate.

Seeing as the ARG seems to be set in the present, at least for now, it's unlikely Iran will come into it. That threat begins some time after 2030 and if the old background story section from the old Arma3.com are still relevant then the whole thing will be preceeded by some military coup occuring in Esfahan in 2018 I think.

The game takes place in 2030. If you remember the gameplay videos released last year that showed Captain Miller cooperating with a local arms dealer, the BI dev/commentator, while describing the setting, said that the conflict has been going on for a very long time which has left the towns in ruins. For all we know, the war could last 17+ years.

The Tweet says there will be an update of the 'incident' at 20:00 2/3/2012, so I presume the Tweeter simply forgot this is 2013 and some update will be released 8 o'clock tomorrow.

I hope this is true. I wonder what time zone? Altis time zone?

Sounds good. Any news on what it will be and where to find it?

Probably on the twitter of that "CIA" guy.

Is CIA known for being late on their press releases?

That's impossibru, if it's already 20:00 GMT. Randall said, "Thanks for pointing that out.. this should be 2/3/2013 20:00 . i still cannot get used to a 'new year' when typing."

Could be CST, which is GMT -6.

That would mean it would be 1800z - two hours ago.

My guess is that 'around 20:00' means 'around 20:00' - as opposed to '20:00 on the dot'.

Press release via twitter.

Altis PressAgency - Vessel gone missing near stratis

(APA) On february 25 A vessel, not more than 1km off the east coast of Altis, fired a distress flare which was noted by a local woman. Immedeatly she alarmed the coastguard. 40 minutes after the coastguard checked out the area, the vessal was nowhere to be found. The US Radarstation MIKE-26 reported that a unknown vessel was sighted on the south east side of Stratis. Helicopters and diving teams are being deployed in order to look for signs of wreckages near Jay cove. Rumours say the vessel belonged to a local from Altis, where others think the vessel belonged to smuggelers. Police had no further comments on these rumours, as the incident is still a ongoing investigation.
