Ezcoo 47 Posted January 4, 2013 (edited) Introduction Daylight is a addon-free, new generation role-playing framework for Bohemia Interactive's ArmA II. Built for the need of a working role-playing framework, Daylight aims to bring you enjoyable role-playing experience for ArmA II and ArmA II Free. The idea behind Daylight is the same as in some other earlier role-playing missions, but everything under the hood has been written from scratch. Framework Features Totally new framework written from scratch bringing fresh ideas to the table. Many in-game optimizations for maximum client and server performance. Thousands of new in-game objects with minimal performance hit. Experience a whole new, refreshed southern part of Chernarus. Real in-character gameplay – with character creation you are able to have a custom name and your ArmA II-nickname will only be used for administration purposes. Because no addons are used Daylight has 100% support for ArmA II: Free while still adding plenty of novelty such as new vehicle colors and skins, CS gas, flashbangs and molotov cocktails. Totally reworked UI and damage system to fit role-play purposes. Support for JSRS sound mod. Gameplay Features Free gameplay with many activities to choose from (and more added later), the factors that reduce the immersion have been cut to the minimum and the factors that increase the level of immersion have been maximized. Strong, friendly and healthy community: transparent admin tools, proper report system for both players and admins, feedback system and open discussion on the forums. Progress ingame is based on the ability to team-play and actual skills of players, no artificial counters or meters of progression – may the best players win! The very rich and interdependent, diverse but coherent content in-game offers players endless possibilities and ways to play. qbt 10 Posted January 6, 2013 (edited) sweet, hopeful something really new, tired of hundreds reworked chernarus life 1.0 versions. The #1 reason why I started dedicating my time to this project was by far that every server I went on was basically a lightly modified version of the other with poor performance and on top of all poor gameplay. That's the main motivation with this project. Before I even wrote the first line of code of Daylight I took time to plan and make many tests to maximize the performance. We as a team want to bring you the best role-playing experience: new novelty, gameplay elements and on top of all a overall harmonic experience for you to enjoy. We are here to make a change. A light in the end of the tunnel, Daylight. No more bullshit. :dance1: I invite you to play with us when we're ready! Edited January 6, 2013 by qbt

Ezcoo 47 Posted January 8, 2013 (edited) Looking forward to see you too on the server! The existing RP mods and missions may have their flaws, but they have been and are still great fun for many players. A mission that has kept its #1 rank for years can't be a fail! Not even Daylight is perfect, we're just concentrating on different parts in the whole than many other RP mods and missions. We've kept our focus on the gameplay and the immersion. They are the most important elements in our opinions. Also proper administration system is necessary. I believe, that excessive number of rules is not a good idea in this kind of mission. If you want players to avoid some kind of behaviour, make them to want to avoid it instead of denying it. When the rules are light and simple and players are (hopefully) willing to obey them, it results in less breaking of rules, thus in less stressed admins and further in better admins, because like everyone of you knows, stressed admin is often bad admin – they are humans too. For example, we may leave Teamspeak optional for civilians. But if you aren't on TS3, you will get no help from admins and you may be considered automatically guilty in some cases, because all administrative actions are dealt with via TS3. It would be up to the player to decide whether he joins the TS3 or not when he would become an outlaw. PS. The opening of thread should appear soon. There seems to be a bug that causes the post to be invisible after every edit until forum moderator has accepted it manually, even though I've exceeded the message limit. Derpiederp 1 Posted January 10, 2013 It looks great! I'm looking forward to this server! Just 1 question: Does it support saving you character ( not on short-term, but long-term ) or is this going to be the same as most of the Chernarus Life servers ( Server reset every 3 hours / 6 hours / 24 hours )? Derpie
Ezcoo 47 Posted January 10, 2013 (edited) Hi Derpiederp, I'm happy to hear that you like our project too. The expected lifetime of the mission is roughly from 500 to 1400 minutes. Like said, the players create their own game and experience in Daylight, so it's totally up to the players, their skills and objectives. Everyone in the dev team liked the relatively fast-paced action like on the most of Life servers. It was always exciting to find out the situation in game after you had joined and to see the situation on server to change dramatically often on the fly. It was pretty clear to us that we want to create something like that. Because of the runtime it would break the balance of the gameplay completely if we implemented long-term stat-save. There may be something like that in the version destined to ArmA III, depending on the Java support (which looks promising, BIS was hiring a Java developer here on the forums ) pretty much. It would also require a notable change especially to the balancing of the game, that may or may not be something that we want to do. But that'll be in A3 then, maybe it's better to close my mouth now before I tell you too much... ;) Edited January 10, 2013 by Ezcoo

Ezcoo 47 Posted January 11, 2013 There was a video here but we decided it was a bit too graphic, if you still wish to see it you can check out some videos from our YouTube channels here and here! :dance1: And not just a bit too graphic. It was way too gore. A note to those who saw the video already; it'll be changed totally in the final version, especially the sound effects. We might add it to our damage system, so it would be new kind of task to EMS, because the treatment would differ a little bit from the existing damage types. NeuroFunker 11 Posted January 12, 2013 post processing looks way better then vanilla arma, sweetfx1.3 ba chance?
qbt 10 Posted January 13, 2013 (edited) post processing looks way better then vanilla arma, sweetfx1.3 ba chance? Thanks for your colorful compliment! It's always a HUGE motivation for us to hear feedback! There is nothing extra running, it took me some trial and error to find the best color correction values. The colors are affected by the time of day and weather. All screenshots are straight from in-game vanilla ArmA II running Daylight! What you see is what you get! :dance1: One of my biggest goals in Daylight is to improve ArmA II in any way I can! Many people underestimate ArmA II, but Real Virtuality always surprises me with its power and moddability! It truly is the best engine to work with, and I've dedicated a lot of time for Real Virtuality since OFP! Hopefully we can gather a community of ArmA II and ArmA II: Free players that will continue to ArmA III with us! Edited January 13, 2013 by qbt
NeuroFunker 11 Posted January 13, 2013 wow, then i must say, really good job there! I have 5 more friends, who i'm playing arma 2 with, i've told them about ur mission coming, and we are all looking forward to finally try out ur mission, me and another buddy were regular RP'ers, and 3 other, are interested. So wish you good luck at the start, so it runs all as planed, without big interrupts! ;)
Ezcoo 47 Posted January 13, 2013 Thanks for positive feedback. A little contrast and colour tweaks with vignette layer makes it to look pretty nice. My favourites are night and morning. The night is now more "exciting", and when it turns into morning, the sky will begin to glow in beautiful warm colours when the sun rises.

NeuroFunker 11 Posted January 20, 2013 now that looks impressive! And extra thanks for spelling correct russian "врач", "парамедик", and not some abra-cadabra language "апоепоанымп", that warms my heart a lot. Btw why text on golf "Ð’Ð ÐЧ" is flipped to 90°? Can't wait to play finally! :D

Can't wait to play finally! :D Thank you NeuroFunker, we are very flattered by your quick response! Unfortunately our Russian translator drank too much vodka and was unable to give us correct translations, however if we turn the vehicles in the opposite direction the magic of ArmA fixes this! :dance1: The texture on the models is mirrored on the other side so there is unfortunately nothing we can do about this. Ezcoo 47 Posted January 21, 2013 (edited) Due to unexpected changes in the mission development team, we decided to change the resource & logistics systems completely. This doesn't mean that we would leave out features. Instead, they will just be added later, probably one by one, until we reach nice balance. What this means to players, is that the first online versions won't have so insane number of different kind of activities and complex resource system as we had planned. On the other hand, it may be a good thing too: the mission will be more casual to play and the learning curve will be shorter. There will still be nice number of activities, and more importantly, players will still have to use their head to maximise the benefits of their activities. Not the quantity, but the quality. :) Edited January 22, 2013 by Ezcoo grammar
