Multiple people editing at the same time?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

Currently I'm working on an island that is fairly large in size. The map itself is 2048x2048 with terrain cells of 10. Keep in mind that its an island with small outlying islands off of that so prob 30-40 % is water.

Now I have multiple people in my gaming community that want to help as well. Is there a way for us to each work on different sections of the island then import them into on common file?

Or do we need to work on it at different times and just share the main pew file?

Hi Milk,

As I understand there are a few ways, though I would wait and see what a few other people say.

I don't think it is possible to all work on different sections of the map at once and parse the data, but you can break it down into parts that can be shared...

as far as the Sat map and layers go, you could have a few people working on that in peices, and stitch it all together in photoshop as needed.

forests and clutter could be worked on by a few people and exported from world tools as a text file and imported in sections into your PEW.

the ther way would be to all work on individual PEWs of the same map then once done you can pull them all together and literally copy and paste all of the items off of each map onto one main map, that does work because I have done it.

so yes it is sort of possible, without too much bother, but again, see what others say, I'm a noob!

Good idea daringd. I also changed the map size to 1024x1024 with 8 meter cells to allow us to get this project done sometime this year :)

If you're talking about object placement that is possible. You just need to make sure you don't overlap at all. Doing roads first would probably be the best way to do it and then send the same pew out to your entire team and give each a section. Then you just copy and paste as daringd said. Make sure they don't mess with the heightmap at all. Although that too is possible to merge but I think it would be easier to just make note of places that need heightmap adjustments and then go back once all objects are placed.

if i understand right , you want to work with others for place the objects on your map. You can do it if you have all the same xyz , share the area for everyone and after that export your work with visitor script called export objects, send the script to the one that handle all the stuff and import the objects again with the visitor script called import objects. You can work that way.

Sorry for my bad english...... i hope that you understand the idea....

I've found that it works much better to just "copy" and "paste absolute" from one pew to another.
