Paratrooper 0 Posted July 7, 2002 </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">I think that one more thing is relevant here: Even if Britain would not gain anything by joining the EU per se, it would have much to loose by not joining. The EU, while advocating for open borders and free trade internally, is pretty isolationistic towards non-EU countries. If Britain would be outside the EU, it would very soon find its products boycotted and penalty taxed. It isn't fair, but it is the reality. <span id='postcolor'> Your just plain wrong there. We have had a free trade agreement with Europe under the WEU. Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and even Mexico! have free trade with Europe, the're not part of the EU. Boycotts are illegal betwene WTO nations. Britain has trade, we don't need our Parliment and Judiciary undermined from Brussels and Strasbourg. So the trade argument can be st aside as an advantage of the EU.

IsthatyouJohnWayne 0 Posted July 7, 2002 Ran- you think wide ranging integration is not a goal of a lot of the EU leaders and other european politicians? (and one of the founding ideas of the EU) and Albert you think its just a new economic system that will be good for business? If its all economic then why is a there a European Parliament, http://www.europarl.eu.int/home/default_en.htm --------- a european charter of rights with lots of quite stupid articles, http://europa.eu.int/comm/justice_home/unit/charte/index_en.html just one example: "Chapter I - Dignity Article 1 Human dignity Human dignity is inviolable. It must be respected and protected." What the fuck does that mean? It could be interpreted in a hundred thousand different ways... -------- a european court of human rights, (not EU i dont think) http://www.echr.coe.int/Eng/Judgments.htm --------- etc etc There are many forces at work trying to federalise and integrate europe. Romano Prodi is always at it and he wants to limit the veto powers of countries... the German political elite want to create an Uber-Germany of the EU along roughly the lines of Federal Germany....the French politicians have already succeeded in turning the EU into an apparatus of French farmer preservation(at the expense of others) and now want to turn it into a united front of anti americanism. The EU takes power away from the people and increases the power of the political class. It has a very limited democratic facade of people elected by the minority of politically minded people who take an interest (or ever know about) EU MPs. There are far too many commitees and commissions and appointments bestowed by elderly French gentlemen on other elderly gentlemen for reasons beyond scrutiny.Too much waste. Too much regulation. Not enough accountability. Not enough scrutiny of finances. Jean Monnet’s formula of an >>“ever closer Unionâ€<< best characterizes the process of European integration. This dynamic principle found its way into the Treaty of Rome. Today, for fear of this principle’s >>integrative force<<, the opponents of a >>so-called super-state<<, especially in Great Britain, would like to use our convention to delete the term "ever closer union" altogether from the acquis [the corpus of Community legislation already in place]." Dr.Guenter Burghardt -Head of the European Commission Delegation to the United States CNN- "BRUSSELS, Belgium -- European Union privacy laws have protected 500 members of a child porn ring from being tracked down, a police officer has said. UK Detective Chief Superintendent Keith Akerman said EU data protection laws -- which require Internet service providers to erase traffic data -- prevent police from tracking down people who swap graphic pictures over the Internet. The EU law is a real hindrance to investigations because it requires the destruction of evidence, Akerman said at a European Commission hearing on fighting cyber crime. " "Metric Martyrs" lose court challenge Five market traders in Britain have lost a legal battle to continue selling goods in pounds and ounces in defiance of EU regulations. The traders, known as the Metric Martyrs, had challenged convictions for selling food in imperial rather than metric measures, but the High Court in London rejected their claim that domestic law provided a loophole in the EU directives. The five had won support from a number of prominent figures including John Cleese and Elaine Page. blah blah blah my eyes are stinging i always represent myself in an essentially foolish and inherantly flawed manner i wonder why? Or "-What about a war between 100 Grizzly bears, China, 100,000 pakistani troops , and an M1a2 with a veteran crew?' -'ahh the M1a2 would wupp 'em" or arguments about grains and calibres, 'penetration statistics' and who won WW2 heck why dont we just.....never mind yes i propose that there should be an 'all the the worlds militaries' thread.....
