My work is being illegally sold on World Zombie.ru

Recommended Posts

Yeah it is really sad. I was really looking forward to the further development of Taviana especially further bug fixes. One of my favorite Terrains I would say. I hope that martin won't take down the ArmA version but if he's cut a deal he might be forced to. What a shame. Well in that case all the missions I made for Taviana would be useless and just a waste of time I better abandon my project and don't keep working on it. I hate wasting time.

well good luck to Martin then.

Well, as bad as it is, that's literally nothing compared to all the stuff "under the hood" of Russian and post-USSR modding/selling of FREE content.

1)here in the post-USSR countries there is literally no IP laws that work.

2)everyone torrents everything they can(even government and law enforcement workers I personally know).

3)a LOT of mods for STALKER(as the brightest example) use BI and other modders/game models/sounds etc without permission.

4)literally not one person I know(can't say for others) cares much about IP laws(regarding games/movies - they respect modders work/are mod makers).

It's especially bad in Ukraine - now that's a wild west of IP, everything goes there since Ukraine doesn't even provide actual law enforcement at all.

The only option to combat people reselling your work is to continue to provide your work for free and hopefully make your work more easily accessible than the paid for options. There is no mechanism for enforcing the rules and terms of a licence, unless you are some big time company with money to spend on lawyers. Just the way it is. Accept it, feel good that you are contributing your work to the community for free. Loathe the scum that take your work and try to charge people for it. Getting upset and stopping your work only hurts the community. I blame capitalism, it allows for this sort of greedy money making activities, and it isn't going to be going away anytime soon unfortunately. Viva la revolution!

It is spelled 'vive la revolution'. And I agree capitalism/corporatism is the cancer of this world and results in a hand full of people having extreme wealth, power and influence over the masses that are nothing more then livestock and workhorses for the few. It will be a global revolution or WW3.

Reading all this makes it depressing as I'm working on a HUGE Stalker based project for this community.

I am putting in literally any time I have for free, and the thought that some t%*t somewhere could potentially make money from my time makes me sick.

Is there anything to be done about these situations..? A way to make it so it's just not possible for people to capitalise on someone else's work/time..?

it should be easy in theory;

make your free work available and visible for everyone to find.

if the original is available for free, while others ask money for it, it should be hard for them to actually make business.

at least, this is what I've come up with so far.

Working on creating the publishing platform for content creators we have for Play withSIX this thought has haunted me for a while. In the end I believe common sense has the answer, provide it for free and make your work visible so it's easiest to find the free version.

When i first read this i had sympathy for Martin, now things have changed and he is making money from Taviana, Dayz and other peoples code.

Taviana is a great map but now anyone who attempts to use or modify the map gets threats from his legal team that they will be sued for thousands and he sends a DMCA to their host :( I think that is really really shitty.

To me the modding community have always done things for free and for very little credit, Martin and his new found buddies are just parasites out to milk the gaming comminuty.

How is Martin making money from this..?!

Read in the Taviana thread, there should be mentioned something. There's not much of info available. In any case he's not developing for the community anymore and I highly doubt that there will be ever an upgrade of Taviana for free. There will always be people who will try to make money of others people work disregarding IP rights completely.

He's jumped into bed with them at GamersPlatoon.com and they are the people being Dayz Origins.

They refuse to release the server files publically, only official partners can sell origins servers and to be official you pay them.

That is how Martin is making money from this ...

Opendayz tried to host their own version or emulation of the map and were hit by a DMCA notice and the threat of being sued for thousands of dollars.

The DMCA notice can be seen here > http://pastebin.com/umU8840G

> We are writing to notify you that your unlawful copying of "Taviana",

> "name", "map" copyrighted "3D models used by map", "Taviana digital

> assets" infringes upon our client’s exclusive copyrights. Accordingly,

So now Martin is violating the the EULA with BIS?

And wouldn't the above mentioned DMA notice be ineffective as no one realy has the rights to sell anyway?

Maybe they're faking stuff like his account and legal notices to make it look like Martin is cooperating with them.

From the notice:

It has come to our attention that you have been copying our client copywriter work.

Aka "client's copyrighted". If this is an actual lawyer I would start looking for a better one immediately. Mistakes like this get cases thrown out of court.

If either Martin, GamersPlatoon or both are found to be selling addons I hope they get sued into a cardboard box under a bridge.

Banning people from threads for not doing anything wrong? Lovely.

Nope it is the correct martin, see this thread here a GP http://www.gamersplatoon.com/forums/showthread.php?6233-About-Taviana-Island

Notice the facebook link in his profile ? click it and you go here > https://www.facebook.com/ripthrough

With links to his GamersPlatoon sponsorship to help people get a dedicated server ... yeah and of course some commision from sales.

As far as I can tell, there is no one banned from this thread.

No one has, yet.

Another ignorant post from you in this thread and you will be banned from it. You better learn the difference between "wrong" and "right" very quickly.

[/Moderator]

Also, you're gonna ban me even though I'm not doing anything wrong? No vulgarity or insults. I'm simply stating my opinions and even some facts along the way.
Myke;2262705]Yes

While I don't agree with Iceman posting comments such as "personal edits of other peoples work have existed for quite sometime and are perfectly okay" and such. But I understand that it happens, and I stopped caring about it after awhile. As long as the person credited me for the original work. But regardless, I don't find this right. But that's me.

Considering the recent allegations that Martin is now himself actively contravening Bohemia's EULA's I would imagine it's best for everyone involved that this be closed, obviously I would ask Martin to contact me directly to ensure that anything that turns out to be falsely written about him is removed from here.
