physical retail copy version hangs after the end of the nvidia animation on startup

Recommended Posts

I've purchased the physical disc version and every time I start the game it freezes once the nvidia animation has ended. The screen just remains black (I can still see the very faint nvidia logo). Once I look into the task manager, the cc task is tagged "not responding".

I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, 6GB RAM, i7 920, GeForce 560Ti. Everything with the latest drivers, DX, etc.

Did anyone have the same problem? What can i do to make it work?

I'm a huge fan of the original game so I can't really wait to play the remake! :)

Every kind of help is much appreciated!

I am not the best at troubleshooting these sort of things, but try adding -nosplash to your game shortcut.

For example - "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bohemia Interactive\Carrier Command Gaea Mission\carrier.exe" -nosplash

Hope that helps!

The opening video plays at that point. If it's a problem with video playback, the nosplash might not be a fix, as there are other videos in the game which may also cause you this problem. The only thing I can suggest is to update your codecs. I recommend the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack http://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_mega.htm

Adding -nosplash did the trick. Thanks Harbinger! After skipping the intro sequence I can at least enter the menu and play the strategy part but not the campaign (like Species1571 pointed out) because the campaign starts with a video sequence as well. This definitely narrows it down to a video playback problem. Unfortunately installing the K-Lite codec pack (I already had an older version installed but uninstalled it and installed the newest version + the 64 bit version) + ticking virtually every box in the configuration menu of the codec pack did not help.

Does anyone know which codec is being used for the ingame video playback?

But thanks anyway to you all because i can at least play a part of the game :).

Did you install the normal version as well? I doubt whether this game is using the 64 bit.

Edit: Disregard, I see you said plus the 64 bit

Right. I think I'll format my hard drive and install the entire system from scratch. Normally this helps :).

Try skipping the video at the start of the campaign by using the skip cutscene key. default NUMPAD MINUS

Hello,

Most of the game cutscenes are realtime in-game scenes, not rendered video so they won't be affected. Also -nosplash switch affects only startup videos, not these in-game.

They can be skipped by numpad minus key. Anyway, the game uses standard Microsoft WMV decoder so it points to some OS-related issue. Maybe WMV codec is overridden

by some 3rd party one. Try to remove all 3rd party codec packs, or disable just the WMV one.

best regards,
