Delta Hawk

80s, 90s, early 2000 US Military

I just wanted to show what I've been working on today. I projected and textured a RBA vest this afternoon. This evening I'll be working to put it in game. This vest is noticeably dirty because Rangers are constantly training with little time to clean thier gear.

But Delta! But Delta! The Rangers in Black Hawk Down actually had the 1st gen RBA vest without the back SAPI plate!

This vest is for all my 1990s US Army Rangers, so I decided to make the most common variant which I believe is the 2nd gen RBA.

I was just about to ask you for some DCU pics, but looks like you beat me to it! :)

Just one tiny little gripe, I don't know if it's the lighting, but the "coffee-stains" look a little bit too orange-y, I think they're brown-ish in real-life. Anyway, good work. I'm lovin' that vest texturing and the undershirt! ;)

Very nice! Will this vest actually function in the game? i.e. Will it be able to protect the character from a couple of shot to the chest and back ?

I will make it where the "armor" units have more armor for the torso. I'll have to experiments with different settings though to reflect the different properties of each different vest.

I'll look at the coffee stains again. Color is really a huge deal for me. I've spent so much time on just the colors alone and I'm still not done. A huge problem with reference pictures is a lot of times either the camera or the setting adds a color bias, plus with the fact a lot of the gear has moderate filth on it it's hard to find credible pictures that show the correct hue and saturation of the colors on the gear.

Hey gents, does anybody know what kind of radios where used in real life Black Hawk Down and their hand sets? I mean real, bona fide information, not 1/6 information or Ripley Scott Black Hawk Down information. I can't find any information on the actual real radios.

Might I recommend this script? However, it might be a little too overpowered for the PASGT vest, which wasn't really noted for its amazing protective capabilities.

Thanks again. DCUs are like the ACU/UCP, lighting and wear and tear has a lot to due with the hue of it.

Hey Delta first off just wanna say amazing work on this mod, very excited to see its release. Since i'am bored at work, i was doing some digging into the radio questions found http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SINCGARS not sure if you seen that or not, maybe it will help, i will continue to look for more information about the radios and see what i can come up with . Cheers and best of luck with the mod

" the VRC-12 and PRC-77 family served as the primary US Army radios from 1965 until about 1992 – some 27 years. SINCGARS took over that role starting 1990 and is still going strong at 20 years with no replacement in sight." - http://xbradtc.com/2010/12/30/p-p-f-tactical-radios-pt-9/

Thanks Woodstock. I appreciate the help. I didn't mean the man pack radios though, I meant the radios the chalks and Delta used to talk to each other. Research shows they were more than likely Motorola Saber I radios with the normal handmics.

I just wanted to show you guys some progress. I'm sure you won't need any formal introduction to whom this represents...

And I'm starting work on my M1025s...

It's very possible that I have another gig coming up for a client, so sadley this will get pushed back further, but I won't stop working on it until it's release.;)

A great introduction of the new feature to the humvee, openable trunk. Very nice!

Those Humvees...:D

Will you be including any opening doors/trunk as useractions/some other format? Because that would be amazing.

Not sure if this has been asked already, but since MARPAT was fielding for the Marines in 2002, do you plan to include that in the pack?

:yay: :yay: :yay:

I normally model everything seperate, but I had no real intentions of making the doors and hatches openable, unless that's what everyone wants. I just remember doing it with my Vics and a lot of people didn't like it.

M3Luck3yCharms, I don't plan on doing MARPAT, sorry.

Well if you're going into the detail of doing the objects in the back and the engine then you may as well, but otherwise i'd just leave it to the doors as they can be used for cover.

Absolutely stellar work man! As a 3D Artist (not a very good one) myself, I know just how much work goes into of these models, and the infantry look absolutely beautiful. I look forward to seeing the mod progress, and even more so to getting my hands on them to play with!

One of the best addons to A2 Ive seen so far! Top quality Woodland and desert uniforms from 90s is something i missed in A2 ever since the release. I wish you would release at least the infantry already!! :) Keep up the good work man!

Just a little update, there isn't one. lol I've been working on paid contract work leaving little time to work on this but it still is in the back of my mind and I do intend to keep working on it. I'll make the doors openable.

@Wiggie, every 3d artist started out with ambition, determination and very little skill. After a couple years of experience, learning, and multiple destroyed mice from fustration, you'll get better.

Hey guys, I just wanted to show you that I am still working on this mod, I'm just spending a few minutes here and there on it between my contact work.

I wanted to show an actual dev pic of the M1025, in mudbox being painted. Just to explain a little why I use certain colors and patterns is because that's what it is in real life with no "video game design" bias. I'm actually useing Tb-43-0208-Color-Marking-And-Camouflage-painting-of-Military-Vehicles-Construction-Equipment-Materials-Handling-Equipment-31-October-1990 manual along with photos of actual real M1025s (not hollywood knock offs) for the patterns. The colors were sampled from photos and through a hue averaging technique and reference from a military tank simulator mod community, I feel confident these are the actual bona fide colors with out design bias. In the end I hope to bring a level of realism atleast in the art aspect never before seen in BIS games.

I got done painting it awhile ago so here it is in Max. It's hard to see but there's also overspray just like the real thing. Next step I will make a highpoly version of the M1025 shell and doors and project a normal and ambient occlusion map, then make LODs, then into oxygen. After that, I guess I'll make a M2 system complete with tripod, reciever, barrel, T&E and mount. I would like some scripting wizard to make it where you can mount and unmount weapons on these vehicles.

So I feel kind of bad about not getting stuff done, so I decided to reveal my DV-43 Rough Terrain Container Handler (RTCH), affectionately refered to by the men and women who drove her as "The Wench." At 53 tons, it is one of the biggest US Military land vehicles who's soul purpose is to move cargo containers.

I've always found it aggravating that the status quo was 50 firearms in little crates when it should be a cargo container. Cargo containers are really what the US military uses to ship engineer equipment, weapons, gear, repair equipment .etc. Having logistic in support of combat arms brings a new realm of tactics to ArmA2, which hopefully will be a more accurate portrayal of the US military. It also creates a different role in support of operations in game that some might find appealing.

It's no where near done though. Besides some cosmetic stuff, I'm having difficulties in getting it scripted, so who ever comes up with a script based on pseudo code will get the DV-43 to make it work and as a reward, have access to the addons for alpha testing.

Aaaah, so this is what you were talking about... now i see what you're trying to do...

...I think

I take it you want the ability to pick up and drop a container?
