How to get the white text used in direct communication?

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I have been searching alot, and I'm totally lost at this. I have a mission with alot of talking, but as of the moment I am content to create placeholders of text before I'll get together a team for some actual voice acting. In order to still have a nice finish, I'd prefer if it'd be possible to use the white text as used by the direct communication channel, like when you walk up to someone and he says "Hi there" or something.

I know how to use the sidechat "blah" and groupchat "blah" etc., but the directsay is a bit different. I presume it uses some kind of stringables or something, but I am quite confused, and the web doesn't really turn up anything... Hope somebody can help!

Edit: Ok I found some answers in the BIS conversation system:

Hmmm... Seems over my head...

It's a bit different since you have to define it in description.ext and then you could use http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/directSay to say it.

It's a lot easier to just use sideChat for these things so if it's not very important to use direct channel I'd use sidechat.

Thanks for your answers!

Cuel:

I know that it's easier to use sidechat, it just looks so much better with the white typing (:o) and underlines the fact that it is spoken directly, and not through radio.

I'll try it via directsay, are you sure it works? Is it then to specified in cfgRadio in the description.ext?

Kylania:

Yeah I tried it, but that FSM stuff is way over my head...
