Reproducible South Asia-related Crash

Hello,

I encountered a crash today that seems to occur no matter what addons (or none) I have loaded on the South Asia map.

I'm not sure what exactly is causing it, because it appears when I face an empty region of the map from within a specific range of distances.

How I can produce the crash:

Set player at 0583 0569, face West, and zoom in, or

set player at 0563 0568, face East, and zoom in, or

set player at 0574 0575, face South, and zoom in, or

set player at 0572 0558, face North, and zoom in.

These form something approximating four points of a diamond about 2km wide. Facing the center of the diamond, and then zooming, triggers the freeze. Much of the audio cuts out, but I can continue to hear background ambience like birds and insencts.

Oddly enough, when I place the player at the CENTER of this diamond, facing any direction, zoomed or not, no crash occurs.

Can anyone else confirm this? I have attempted twice to validate files on Steam, but I don't have the utmost confidence in its thoroughness.

EDIT:

Have reinstalled almost all files for the game; updated video drivers, stress tested, tried changing view distances, etc. Still no change . . . this is a really strange crash, I feel like it's related to the terrain mesh or a LOD of something like a unique rock in the area (seems less likely since I don't think there are any unique rocks...). Also, reinstalling the game's data files would presumably fix it if that were the error.

I really want to know if anyone else can reproduce this. Place a character at any of the grid squares above, bring up the compass, hold down the right mouse button to zoom and start turning around until the game freezes. For me it is like clockwork, with the same specific range of headings for each location I try from. It only happens within a specific minimum and maximum radius from a certain point, the exact location of which I can only guess at as being slightly west of the gas station near the first grid coordinates listed above.

Anyone? I guess I'll find a way to submit a ticket, but I wanted to make sure it's not a problem on my end first. It's such a specific trigger that I'd be surprised if many people ever encountered it by chance. I only did because I was drawn to that gas station as a possible setting for infantry operations.

Took me 2 seconds, and BAM! Frozen! I can hear sound, but the game is not responding. Tried to click the Red X( Close ), nothing....

.Ext problems always Crash my game(im experimental coder lol), i hate them , is that the problem here ?

Hey Thromp,

That is a simple header in the Description.ext to tell clients what the map is all about:

I forgot to exclude some of the code and references to external scripts I had, in that 'mission.sqf' file. :rolleyes:

If you would like to reproduce this, do the following:

  • Create a new CLEAN map.
  • Start a Soldier at the coordinates mentioned( first one [0583,0569] is just SW of Adamad near a gas/petrol station )
  • Preview the map, spawn in, face West and try to ZOOM your view...

obviously i can spot already from you test mission above there is mistake, but i guess you know its wrong , you just made it by text and copy something ?

for what its worth i am last version before this amalgamated rearmed patch (1.6.92.408 .exe) and i don`t crash , sorry i forgot i haven't updated :o .at least i cant tell last patch didn't crash :).

I believe when

player="PLAYER COMMANDER";

is not defined, 'Player' is set by default, instead of 'Playable'

Again, if you follow the quick instructions above on a CLEAN map, you can still reproduce this...

The map I originally posted, was a testing map. This:

synchronizations[]={2};

Was me trying to Sync the UAV, UAV Terminal, Player and UAV Module up, to get it working... No Joy there, but that is in another thread... :)

not crashing here tried various view distance settings and object distance including terrain quality high to low

1.6.92.408 .exe

Nvidia GTX 470 1.2gb

2 gig ram

intel core duo at 2.6 ghz

I have update my DEMO Map script above. It spawns a Civilian at the coordinates 0583, 0569, looking west. No addons/mods required.

LOL, we post at the same time a lot!

Maybe this is a Rearmed thing... :confused: Just the Mod loaded into the main TakeOnH.exe.
