joopajoo111 1 Posted September 20, 2012 (edited) Hello. I already tried to see a fix to this problem but couldnt find such a thing. So i moved to russia and obviously im not very good on it. I bought arma 2 OA and in the description it stated it's multilingual rus/eng. I've already tried to change it to english by many attemps, but cant seem to change the lang. Is there something im missing? Because obviously i cant understand a f**k because its all russian, without the slightest english. So, is there anyway to change the language, or am i being scammed by the seller? Edited September 20, 2012 by joopajoo111
[frl]myke 14 Posted September 20, 2012 Any further info would be nice like where you bought it and maybe a link to the reseller page/product description. Generally speaking, the ability to switch language depends on the version (distributor).
joopajoo111 1 Posted September 20, 2012 I bought it from here : http://www.igromagaz.ru/buy_pc_games/key/20227.php There reads that it should support rus and eng : RUS : Язык: РуÑÑкий / ÐнглийÑкий (translated by google) : Language : Russian / English From that i pretty much thought it would work. [frl]myke 14 Posted September 20, 2012 Please read this: Did you buy your ArmA2 key from a CD Key-reseller You'd better try to get a refund but i doubt you will succeed. Next time, buy here: https://store.bistudio.com/
joopajoo111 1 Posted September 20, 2012 I still dont understand why there are localized games. Why not just add the option to change the language to english even if you live anywhere, just doesnt make sense...
W0lle 1050 Posted September 20, 2012 Because localization costs money, the people who are translating the thousands of words and sentences have to pay their bills as well. The local Publisher pays these people and is responsible for the localization. So of course they try anything that their local customers who purchase disc versions and from local online distributors only purchase "their" version - with only that particular language selectable. e.g. German and Russian. And joopajoo111, as much as I hate to say that: But you've been cheated. You only purchased a key, not the game as said in the thread Myke pointed you at. joopajoo111 1 Posted September 20, 2012 Well, no problem, it didnt cost that much that i would care :/ Have bought many games from there without problems (except bf3, which the dev's gladly changed to EU version so i got english lang). Do you guys know any way to translate the game by myself? Read that you could do so with arma 2, but what about arma2 oa? I bought the game anyway for DayZ, need to try and sell it to my friend and buy the steam version combined arms pack.

Basically, you "just" have to unpack the language_xx.pbo files and edit the included stringtable.xml - e.g. replacing all Cyrillic text with English. But: with these modified game files you won't be able to join a server which has signature check on - which most of them should have on.
joopajoo111 1 Posted September 21, 2012 (edited) well, need to check that just for curiosity. EDIT : in the language core it has all the text translated, so i dont understand why there is no possibility to change it via cfg files? W0lle 1050 Posted September 21, 2012 Because the available languages are depending on your key. If you have a Russian key, then you have only Russian language. If you have a German key, you have only German language. Purchase the game here and you can play in English without any problems.
joopajoo111 1 Posted September 22, 2012 What i meant was, what value makes the game run in the selected language? There must be some register value etc which chooses the language and by altering that value i could get different language shown ingame. Because it's all translated in the languagecore and all the other language files have all those translates included anyway.
[frl]myke 14 Posted September 22, 2012 As W0lle already stated, there is nothing you can do to switch language besides buying the game from a official retailer (Sprocket, Steam, just to name 2). Since you bought only the key without game files, you had to download them somewhere and now guess what: there is no legal place to download the game files. Illegal versions are not supported. You tried to be cheap, now you have to pay the price for it. Take it as a man, buy a legal version and we will be happy to help you with any problem that may arise. -Thread closed-
