Jokes aside, it's strange they ban the game before it's even in beta. I don't think even BI has the script finished at this point. All we know is that Iran will appear, and I believe that there will be at least one mission from their perspective (like in ArmA II, which came with OPFOR missions). I think they'll be presented with respect, sort of like Chineese in Dragon Rising or Russians in AII.

It's a pity our gaming comrades in Iran are not able to procure the game in a state-sanctioned manner. It's not every day your country is featured as a major playable faction of a video game unless you're American or Russian.

Unless it's a Russian game about driving a tank. Or that Tom Clancy game, though those were Russians disguised as terrorists.

I'm not gonna lie I didn't buy BF3 for that reason... that and EA. First thing I'm going to do when ArmA 3 comes out is jump into the editor and make some OpFor missions!

It is a bit silly to not purchase a game due to what military you shoot, perhaps I'm just a twisted figure but if I played a game and had to shoot american soldiers then so be it, unless it were set up in manner of "Spec Ops the Line" but then..that would apply for anyone really. In the end they are nothing more than digital space.

Well my rationale is that in BF3 Iran was only in the game as an enemy. They weren't included as a playable faction in multiplayer or singleplayer. The only thing I could do is shoot them...

Many games that have you fighting Russians let you play as them in some way or another. I doubt there's many games where you fight Americans and can't play as them, though obviously I don't know about every single game in existence. But that's the best part of ArmA and BI, they let you play as anything you want, even a dog or rabbit!

I'm a Brit so naturally most games cast me as the good guy :) don't know how I'd feel if I were more normally cast as the bad guy.

One of my favourite games though is Silent Hunter 3, where I play as a German sinking Brit & American ships. Doesn't bother me :) maybe it's just because I like Das Boot so much.

i watched TV document (or maybe it was biased and propaganda) in which Arab countries were shown as countries who forbid for example rock music,

so i am not surprised that many modern-media entertainment things are forbidden there, more over i am surprised that some things are not forbidden (after this TV document about rock music there)

also there is another reason for such ban eventually which you forget,

BI makes also VBS which is NATO simulator, so Iranian gov. doesn't want on its territory sells from company making software used to train US Marines etc.

i would look issues here, in VBS , not in Arma3 itself and it wouldn't surprise me at all,

if i was manager in company i would try to push out any competition as much as i can and fight competitive companies too ,

so i understand their logic is like that : "they do VBS, if they sell game here, they will earn money, so we cannot support company making VBS" (i know it is BI Studio and BI Simulations, but BI )

but of course Iranian gov. forget that in Arma you can have addons, and make Iranian soldiers and fight and shoot to US soldiers in game, they forget about addons and mission editor,

if they knew that this game has mission editor, they would support addonmaker to make Iranian army mod and than promote such mod with missions against US bots

The Iranian government don't give a flying fuck about addons or a mission editor. In todays news they have been accused of shipping arms to Syria in violation of U.N sanctions and ignoring demands to open key nuclear facilities to U.N inspectors. Four Iranian nuclear scientists have been assassinated in the last four years, a fifth was targeted but escaped.

My point is that shits getting real in that part of the world so it should come as no surprise that the Iranians don't want to be painted as the enemy by a company that sells military simulations to U.N members.

And a rather good game, too. I have T-72, and it's a really nice tank sim. Not quite the level of Steel Beasts, but exactly the kind of simulation I'd like to see in ArmA III for tanks, as well as other ground vehicles. It also features T-34 and T-55. As for the storyline, it's fairly good, though you can see the game wasn't a high-budget title (hardly any videos, for example). There are some liberties taken with equipment used (some of it didn't see use on Balkans), but they aren't a big problem.

That, and the mission review system is superb. You can see damage on vehicles, how the shells penetrated and what actually killed you or any other vehicle in the area. I'd really like to see something like that in AIII.
