Looks like I am right.  No one will beat America in wars, we will crumble at our own hands.  Other nations just have to sit back and watch as we go insane.  "One Nation Under God".  I don't belive in a god, but I'm fine with that.  These people think that its what it means NOW in this overly politaclly correct world.  They don't see that it is what it stood for when it was made.  And what it symbolizes.  These polititions are numbnuts.  Are they becoming imbred in some places?

this "political correctness" is being taken too far too, i mean i read a thread awhile back about this program on ABC i think and they bleeped out the word jesus and god cos "it might offend the other religions! well corrrect me if im wrong but wouldnt bleeping out jesus and god offend christians etc?

anyway, just a brief version of my thoughts smile.gif

This is pretty dumb. If a person does not want to say the pledge they should not have too, but why force everybody else to do the same? They actually bleped Jesus becuase they were afriad to offend other religons?! As for the bleeping of God in front of the explecitive, spelled that wrong, I am not against, and no you should not bleep alaha when talking about him, becuase it is something people believe in, althought it may not be what I beleive it is some people believe.

When I was in High School I always thought the pledge of allegiance was kind of cheesy.  It doese'nt really bother me that it's gone. The U.S. could use some de-cheesing when it comes to patriotism anyway.

Before you flame me for saying this, understand that I do consider myself a patriot. I just can't stand all that lofty, flag waving, fiery speech, eye tearing mush that people spew out in the name of my country.  Patriotism = Loyalty, and should be expressed in deeds.  How many flags you have hanging off your car doese'nt count, it is meaningless to me.

I wouldn't call the pledge un-constitutional though.  If they have such a problem with the word "God" they need to replace all our cash too, you know "In God we Trust".  Where will it end? Doesen't make any sense.

This reminds me of a story when the subway train on which I was travelling was stuck for over 2 hours on elevated tracks (subway tracks running above ground) becuse there was apparently a dog laying there.

It turned out that he was alive, just taking a deep nap as he's apparently been lost for days and thus very tired. I had the liberty of watching it all unfold as I was in the first car. After 3 fire trucks came on the scene it took them an hour to figure out how to gently wake and remove the sleeping dog.

The details were unveiled on the evening 10 o'clock news.

Well I already had this discussion on another forum and I hope you don't mind me just copying and pasting my views here.

Well as no one is giving a counter point to this issue, and conservative right wing propaganda is rampant, my first post will be about this.

The man had every right as a U.S. citizen to make a case defending his daughter's civil libierties. His argument was that his daughter was forced to listen to other students in her public school (which the state requires her to go to and does not give a choice of schools) recite the pledge of alliegance every day with the prayer like "under God" in it.

How is this unconstitutional? It's quite simple, if you have a basic knowledge of the constitution.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion."

That is a constitutional right, garunteed to us. However, when in 1954 president Eisenhower (under pressure from ultra right wing christian organizations such as KKK, Christian Knights, etc.) pushed an act to include the words "under God" following "one nation," in the pledge of alliegance. This was to combat the godless socialist America was at war with.

Interesting fact about that, the pledge of alliegance was made up by a christian socialst around the turn of the century. But without the words "under God". Also the original salute to the flag was a "roman salute" which you and I know as a Nazi salute, right arm extended outward. This was changed to hand over hear in the beginning of World War II.

Back on the subject of our constituinal rights, we are garunteed seperation of church and state. When a child is forced to listen to other children say the pledge, which has a prayer like line in it, her civil liberties are being impeded on.

After the ruling that the pledge of alliegance was unconstiutional, Congress had a fit and they all got overly patriotic and very stubborn. They didn't think about constitutional rights, they only thought that Under God was the norm and someone was attacking america by bringing up the illegality of it.

The person who brought this to court is more American than any one of those congress members, because he respects and defends the constitution.

Live free or die.

I saw a documentary about this last night. They said he was a Baptist minister that was also a socialist. He wrote it as patriotism. And it was a bit different than it is now.

Also Duke, Christianity wasn't the first religion here. Ask a Native American about it...if you can find any.

You know if we had to take out Under God out of the pledge wouldnt we have too take it out of our money? I mean on our currency it says in god we trust. That would create an even bigger shit storm. If you ask me i just think this whole case is stupid. If you dont want to say the pledge then dont or watermelon it too make your teacher happy. *sighs* I cant wait till this is over.

In Germany we had to take out the Cross of christianity (you know what I mean) out of every classroom. You know the little cross on the wall.

Then a year later a muslim teacher sued because she was not allowed to teach with her head covered. But she lost, so no teachers with covered faces or heads in Germany!

But cases like in the US, no we dont have!

E.g. Jerry Springer sued by son of killed former guest

Cut the shit. The "Under God" was not part of the original pledge, it was added during the McCarthy era as a paranoid anti Communist move. And it is unConstitutional.

In my opnion the "In God We Trust" should be taken off of all currency. But in the era of baby Bush I doubt anyones feelings, save the bible thumping Republicans in Washington, matter anymore.
