Linux 1.62.95946 alpha

Recommended Posts

so, there is new built, uses GLIBC_2.3 instead of GLIBC_2.7, but still require GLIBCXX_3.4.15

there are some other fixes inside in engine code, but I am not aware of any important server CRASH fix.

Can you try it and focus on the frequent CRASH problem? (Hopefully core dumps available now by some miracle?)

Where should we send core dumps? Because it's crashing just as often as the previous alpha.

first startup crashes with:

Warning Message: '/' is not a class ('CfgPatches' accessed)
Warning Message: '/' is not a class.

then watchdog restarts and it loads up ok. I won't be home until monday but I'll try and get some core dumps made. Should we upload them to a specific location? Or just link you to em?

I had this version run now for over 6 hours without crashing after disabling BE... When I tried with BE it crashed in 4 minutes..

Who is in charge of BE? Can BE be made compatible with this version?

Thanks to Dwarden et al for this release, it's been eagerly awaited :) First impressions are that it is less prone to crashing than the previous alpha, which would reliably crash within minutes of starting a mission. 1.62.95946a on the other hand is stable enough to play on for tens of minutes, though I've only tested that with one person connected. It will still crash eventually however; but this isn't predictable or reliable (the best kind of crash!).

What can I do to help? Upload 'core' files? I have .rpt and .bidmp files but they seem to be from the earlier alpha according to their dates. Thanks :)

there is no difference for me if BE is disabled/enabled, server will not crash when 1 player connected for hours but crashed couple of times when more players joined, first it was something like 4-5 players, second time I tried to disable BE and it has crashed in 30mins with about 10 players...

How many players were connected while your server were running for 6 hours?

---------- Post added at 10:26 ---------- Previous post was at 10:07 ----------

No crashes here.

(Debian 64bit with gcc 4.7 installed)

Could you please give me more info about your system specs? I have fresh installed VM Debian 6 Wheezy 64bit, 32libs via "apt-get install ia32-libs" and server is crashing quite often... VM should not be a problem I hope

Doesn't work on Linux 12.04 LTS, same error than previous alpha patch. Crash after few minutes.

@lucky

What's your output of strings /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6 | grep GLIBC?

Should look something like this:

GLIBCXX_3.4
GLIBCXX_3.4.1
GLIBCXX_3.4.2
GLIBCXX_3.4.3
GLIBCXX_3.4.4
GLIBCXX_3.4.5
GLIBCXX_3.4.6
GLIBCXX_3.4.7
GLIBCXX_3.4.8
GLIBCXX_3.4.9
GLIBCXX_3.4.10
GLIBCXX_3.4.11
GLIBCXX_3.4.12
GLIBCXX_3.4.13
GLIBCXX_3.4.14
GLIBCXX_3.4.15
GLIBCXX_3.4.16
GLIBCXX_3.4.17
GLIBC_2.2.5
GLIBC_2.3
GLIBC_2.4
GLIBC_2.3.2
GLIBC_2.3.4
GLIBCXX_DEBUG_MESSAGE_LENGTH

Be sure you have GLIBCXX_3.4.15 as mentioned by Dwarden, first line, opening post :)

If you miss that one, you're missing gcc-4.6.x (ref & ref)

I run 64-bit Ubuntu server 10.04 LTS on Dell Poweredge 2850.

after the second try, the server was up and I was able to play for about 30 minutes..then it just crashed (and left a 600mb coredump-file behind)

here the logfile:

These are almost certainly errors in the server code, there is nothing wrong with your setup.... Save the core files for if/when they tell us where to send them...

As of right now, this alpha is not stable enough for even light production use.

*** glibc detected *** ./oa_server: malloc(): memory corruption: 0xf762f477 ***
*** glibc detected *** ./oa_server: double free or corruption (!prev): 0x192ab988 ***

I'm running it just purely to collect core dumps... which are happening 8-10 times a day on a public server.

@overlord

I think if I would not have the correct gcc server would not start at all... got this btw:

GLIBCXX_3.4

GLIBCXX_3.4.1

GLIBCXX_3.4.2

GLIBCXX_3.4.3

GLIBCXX_3.4.4

GLIBCXX_3.4.5

GLIBC_2.0

GLIBC_2.3

GLIBC_2.1.3

GLIBC_2.2

GLIBC_2.1

GLIBC_2.3.2

GLIBCXX_DEBUG_MESSAGE_LENGTH

just surprised if its an error in code, why some people saying its not crashing for them? I am thinking there is a problem on my side in this case...

Lucky79,

It's not a problem with your setup, but an issue with the server released by BIS... it's an unstable alpha for a reason :) Save the core files along with the log output from the crash in case they tell us where to upload the files...

This version is not stable enough for even testing, let alone production use.

I'm still suffering from glibc errors - double free, corrupted chunks, malloc errors (already reported on CIT) whenever activity picks up on the server.

That's assuming it doesn't immediately crash with a glibc error on startup.

Running Ubuntu 12.04 - Got all the reqs for the libraries as documented.

I'm not generating any cores though. :/ As soon as I figure out why I'll upload them to the CIT.

Hoping for a new alpha or beta to test soon.

Does previous server (or latest official) run ok?

The last GA server was 1.60, there were a number of 1.60 MP betas after that... all of those seem to run reasonable well to great... problem is only clients who aren't on Steam, and haven't upgraded to 1.62 can access servers running that code.

For clients running 1.62GA there have been 2 releases in the last month of "unstable alpha" software which for most server admins is crashing on a fairly regular basis... Every now and again I'll see a run of 5-10 hours without a crash, then it will crash 5 times in the next hour.

Not to beat a dead horse... But is there a way for server admins to upload the core dumps from the crashes? Would this help with the development process at all? (I'm assuming maybe since adding core dumps was part of the change log for this alpha)

If not, no big deal, just trying to help anyway we can.

I linked to a core dump on the CIT (Dev-Heaven) along with backtraces, gdb output etc. It was over 800 MB so uploading it to the forums or the CIT itself wasn't practical. I'm not sure how useful it is, but they have it anyway.

Is that the official way to send core dumps to BIS?
