IceRain 1 Posted August 9, 2012 Hi, Firstly, played the demo and what an amazing game/sim! I cannot believe that I did not know that it existed! Now I am ready to purchase but I have a few questions? If one of you good people would be so kind as to answer, I'd appreciate it. 1. Is there any difference if I buy from Steam or Bohemia? Will it affect where and how I can play online? 2. I see the download is huge, I take it that wherever I get it they have some kind of accelerated download process? 3. As I am on a mac (I know, I know) I'll be running it on my Bootcamp partition. Will I get an iso or something when I buy that I can transfer to my Windows partition?? Thanks IceRain
metalcraze 290 Posted August 9, 2012 1. buying from BIS means all money goes to BIS (obviously) and you also get installation files which you can burn on DVD and keep for yourself. After installation and patching the game has no DRM and you can transfer it anywhere without the need to reinstall (as long as you copy registry keys containing the serial number). 2. It will be only as accelerated as your internet :> 3. yes, see
IceRain 1 Posted August 9, 2012 Thanks metalcraze for the prompt and informative response. I will purchase from BIS for the reason you stated as why not support the devs! So I take it that multiplayer does not need Steam? Are there lots of non Steam servers? If that is so then excellent! Cheers IceRain
kylania 568 Posted August 9, 2012 Steam has nothing to do with servers or the ability to connect to any given server. It's simply a method of delivering software. In ArmA's case a horrible method due to where the files are kept and how slow updates are to come out. Definitely buying directly from the BIS Store is the best. Then go ahead and install both ArmA2 and ArmA2 OA and all DLC into C:\CO as the folder instead of the default. This way everything is in place, file paths are short, there's no permissions issues and life is good.

roguetrooper 2 Posted August 11, 2012 Go to the shop (reallife or online). Lay down 25 bucks. Get the whole package on 4 DVDs with Arma 1, Arma 2 with all its extensions (except ACR) and a huge printed map.
IceRain 1 Posted September 24, 2012 RT, I would obviously prefer that but I live in West Africa and unfortunately there are no shops that stock it.
IceRain 1 Posted September 27, 2012 (edited) Okay. I have given BIS my $33 and am downloading via Sprocket. I hope that the FAQ is correct that when I hit "stop" my download will just be paused? :j: Edit: It did just that! Edited September 27, 2012 by IceRain
IceRain 1 Posted September 30, 2012 Game downloaded, mods installed with minimal fuss via SixUpdater. I have been playing video games since the days of Pong and I will go on record that Arma2 is the greatest game I have ever come across. Thanks BIS!
