I'm pretty sure the movie title was registered way back before the movie itself was even announced. It isn't really an uncommon practice, just think back to the outrage when Disney announced they were going to trademark "SEAL Team 6" after the Abbotabad raid, they had no movie or anything planned when they did it. My guess would be that the movie title was registered as far back as when they started talking to the author/his publisher about maybe making it into a movie.

I´m not sure that this is good news. Doesn´t this mean that DayZ has to be renamed as well?

Think it's older (?), and the only thing in common is the capital Z. DayZ =/= World War Z. War Z=World War Z.

World war Z the novel is from 2006, movie rights were secured in 2007 and the movie started filming in 2011.

They were not first by a long shot.

I shouldn't think so, since the only similarity is 'Z'; War Z is too similar to World War Z; Hell they should call it Day Zed if any issues arise.

Loving how this train wreck progresses each day.

Note: turns out that apparently Novalogic actually filed "SEAL Team 6" applications back in the early 2000s but those are "abandoned", while Disney was going to trademark it for a bunch of merchandise that might have nothing to do with movies or even action figures (though apparently to allow for the possibility of a TV show)... amusingly, the Navy applications were for "Navy SEAL" and "SEAL Team", because to quote an anonymous Navy official: "We certainly would not request a trademark on a SEAL team that doesn't exist, like SEAL Team 6." :D

That guy Sergey Titsky needs a trial badly. He looks more like a guy involved with nigerian letters than games (wannabe)producer.

I hope he didn't managed to make some pretty bucks seeing that his little troll game received some bad flak quite early.

“War Z†trademark SUSPENDED

http://warzscam.tumblr.com

Here's hoping AMC and FOX get on their ass soon also.

actually this was expected (for me) ... I knew about Brad Pitt's movie quite some time

(so while there was no details it was known there is upcoming movie based on World War Z novel from Max Brooks)

I was more surprised it took them so long to secure the branding ...

note: it will be logical if the World War Z movie is success that there might be game too ...

The C&D letter was issued 1.5 months ago actually.

They must comply within 90 days so Hammerpoint will try to make as much money as possible with an old title during that time.

So far from looking at videos it seems like there are only two features that I would like to see in ArmA/DayZ. User created missions and time capsules/leaving notes.

Which Sergey and crew lifted from a Dean Hall interview.

It's part of the reason Dean stopped discussing features openly and went silent.

every single time he mentioned a possible feature withing a few hours WarZzzzzz crew would post it as a

coming soon to WarZzzzz feature.

Update on the trademark issue, sergey was kind and dumb enough to reply:

guys,

this is getting to be ridiculous.

1) go to uspto.gov

2) Go to TESS - trademark search

3) search for War Z

4) Enjoy LIVE trademark !

Why spread lies ?

even more -I was sent this link like three already - and looks like people are not even reading this document.

It basically says that this application is suspended because there’s another application with regards to this trademark.

here’s real trademark

http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/showfield…002:756yk7.2.3

This is as stupid as saying that colorado map is only 3x3 km.

Sergey Titov

Executive Producer

The War Z

Source: http://forums.thewarz.com/showthread.php?83274-Sad-trademark-suspension-direct-proof&p=1286542&viewfull=1#post1286542

However this doesn’t mean anything - The “basic†search of the US “United States Patent and Trademark Office†ofcourse lists “The War Z†as “active†because OP Productions has 90 days of probation until the application expires. “Live†DOES NOT EQUAL “ISSUEDâ€, Mr Titov.

What Sergey forgets to mention is that when you do the search as he says, and then in the overview click on “CHECK STATUS†-> TSDR (that stands for “Trademark Stauts and Document Retrieval†aka see what’s the status of the trademark right now) you WILL see the whole article about “The War Z“‘s trademark application under the tab PROSECUTION HISTORY that it indeed was SUSPENDED on 15th november.

But now for Mr. Titov and everyone else who is interested, here is a step by step guide on how to get the suspension notice on your screen:

Even more evidence that Titov is completely delusional. No surprise at this point, however this time it could really come back and bite him in the ass.

He doesn't do well under pressure does he, calling claims 'stupid' is not something I'd expect to see from a dev representing any form of PR. False claims would have been better wording but hey...oh and I love the anti cheat/hack method.

Watching a train wreck is such a fun, and actually reminds me the days with OFP:DR and its sequel, just even more entertaining(and in some way depressing) but that is another story. :p

If you want to see an amazing train wreck then you should look into Limbo of the lost, designed by a third party whom stole assets from varuious games such as quake, doom, snes games (beetlejuice), and 3D assets online. The animation is horrid, it looks amazingly dated and the gameplay is..well... http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?400406-In-which-I-play-Limbo-of-the-Lost-%28warning-Picture-intensive%29

The amazing thing is how they were able to take things from other games and make it look WORSE, the list is astonishing http://lotl.wikia.com/wiki/Backgrounds

If you have some spare time and want to see a truley horrible train wreck, look that up on youtube or read the play through linked above.

Everyo0ne been keeping up with the warzscam site? The stream video of a dev asking a player who the hackers in his clan are is actually quite funny, I guess their ultimate unhackable tool also forgets to tell them who hacks.

Also if you do watch the video at the time of the chat notice how the player says, 'imitation is the sincerest for of flattery', could be a coincidence or they could be a part of this thread?

Best thread ever on the WarZ forums. ROTFLMAO. In a thread about their map size (which had been disputed from claimed 100 sq.km to about 10sq.km), a guy claims that

FYI, 10km² = 100 sq. km
(sic), and defends it through about ten posts...

Finally, the developer steps in and says

Size of the map including surrounding mountains is around between 11x11 to 111.5x11.5 km.

Made my day...
