Army of the Czech Republic DLC

Recommended Posts

It's not a matter of one test !

I've managed to walk up to an AI in an open field face to face before. I often use bushes as concealment and walls as cover. It's all about the conditions and how you move. AI aren't super human, if they detect you it's because you screwed up. Player smarter and you won't be detected.

Will this DLC available on steam soon as well?

Another few weeks from the sound of it. That's one of the reasons I ditched Steam for ArmA long ago.

Any way to get this running with the latest 417 beta patch? I cant get it to run... At all. Only by starting without beta patch.

Just launch the beta patch shortcut, and ACR should load automatically if installed correctly. No need to run it as a mod. Your arma2oa.cfg should look like this after ACR launch:

...
PPAA=3;
PPAA_Level=2;
class ModLauncherList
{
class Mod1
{
	dir="ACR";
	name="Arma 2: Army of The Czech Republic";
	origin="REGISTRY";
	fullPath="C:\Program files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\ACR";
};
};

Check this small vid i made,but it's a situation among a lot (to be honest this is what i would do in real life if i were that AI but it's another story)

Well yeah that video shows AI acting right for once instead of being blind.

I don't need to learn how to play :S (unless you have something really exceptionnal to teach me),and my skills are recognized in MP games with many vets either against high level AIs or humans :) (modestly) + i have more than 5000 hours on MP only in arma 2 .

You played an average of 4 hours 30 minutes a day, or more, since ArmA 2 came out, and that's only in MP? Wow...

Personally the only AI issues I ever really run into are in regards to vehicles being aware of damn near everything, and even then it seems to be hit and miss when it happens. It's become much less frequent throughout the last several patches, even.

That being said, I can't wait to get this on Steam. I really liked the new units from the beta patch, and a nice lush, green island would be a nice change of pace from the deserts and autumn forests.

Man, I have been having a blast playing in these ponds for the last few hours. Tons of amphibious battles. Definitely my favorite part of the DLC. The ponds alone were worth my $ IMHO

Even 8.5 hours for some months last year :P,but a warfare game can last for 3 hours easily and since some people want revenge you play another one :P

I need to know if it's possible to use Lite version for steam ,or just wait for steam to do it ?

As a proud customer of ArmA2, OA, BAF, PMC, and now ACR, I have to say that this is a great expansion; My only complaint is that Chernar-I mean Bystrica is too small. Yes, I know it's a good size, but I have an entire mission already made in Chernarus, and I really don't see why you guys didn't just use the whole map? I see there are some changes, they look nice, but now I have to re-arrange everything, and there's no airbase anywhere :\

If you could port the new summer look to Chernarus, you will have another customer for any future title you release! :)

Personally the only AI issues I ever really run into are in regards to vehicles being aware of damn near everything, and even then it seems to be hit and miss when it happens. It's become much less frequent throughout the last several patches, even.

And we've had many people swearing up and down that does not happen only a few weeks ago.

The common theme on the Arma forums is, if a small but vocal crowd of people do not witness something they will deny it exists, say "learn to play" belittle you and post a video in which said behavior is not happening as evidence

that you are imagining things.

The hit and miss part is why it's next to impossible to get the behavior on video because you'd have to have FRAPS running for hours, days at a time to get one event that may not even show clearly in the video.

Making a video of something NOT happening is easy.

I'd like something done about the AI with semi-automatic RPG's that blast you with 2 RPGs in under 2 seconds. It happens to rarely and even even rarer to see it happen up close while facing them.

A lot of the bugs people are having with the ACR DLC haven't happened with me. Doesn't mean they don't exist.

Thats the nature of glitches and bugs, sometimes they need the right conditions to occur.

But then again, the small but vocal minority of people who've elected themselves to the "Nothing gets done without our say so. If it doesn't happen to me it doesn't happen at all" comittee do a good job of keeping said bugs hanging around forever.

Apologies in advance for some of the texts that snook in, they were fixed in a different database and seem to have slipped through the cracks when all pieces were put together, we're working on it! :)
alright...seriously...is this a joke!? The campaign is almost unbearable, did anyone even bother to proofread the briefings and interactions before it was released? :butbut:

Oh wow! That really sways the influence for me! I'm a bit of a wierdo that likes flooded areas and places, for some reason I found the flooded submarine in the "World is not enough" game to be quite amusing for this reason, and given Arma 3's diving I really hope we can see combat in a submerged structure or something like that.

You could always consider using a mod folder containing the Lite addons until it's available on steam. You'll even be MP proof, since these are BIS signed addons.

It's up to the person that has them to prove they exist.

There is a lot of proof that AI is not all-seeing but zero proof that it can see you through bushes and walls and whatnot.

So sure man - people who did actual tests are wrong and people who only have words like "AI sees through everything!!11" (common sense being that if it was true firefights would last for 5 seconds, common sense is clearly for the weak) are of course credible.

ACR DCL.

So... Was I disappointed? A little.

I already knew it that the new two terrains were only reworked portions of the actual maps, I read it in the forums, but I thought the meaty campaign would be enough compensation.

You see, when I read this in the official site

Diverse Missions

Deploy across 15 new missions in the singleplayer campaign, scenarios and procedural template gameplay modes.

I read it as "15 new missions in the singleplayer campaign". But it's truly 8 missions, with the rest being 4 sp missions apart (with only one of them being truly a mission, the other three are a)the showcase b)shooting range c)boot camp trial), and the other three left are templates for the wizard editor that I'm not really interested and they only serve to repeat missions already played in the campaign. Counting them as separate missions is a bit cheating from Bohemia's side.

So how it was the campaign?

Weird. And overwhelmingly lazy. See, it's less a true campaign, and more series of scenarios without connection. And without story, and without characters and barely any dialog.

In that regard it feels like a product outsourced or done by junior employees with barely any allocated budget.

The English text is also a bit painful to read, again the laziness strikes and it's noticeable the little proofreading by a native English speaker.

The weird part comes from it's not all bad. In fact the campaign shows off what I seek in an Arma campaign, a varied experience.

In this aspect, several fan mission makers could learn a thing or two, they always do the same shit, infantry missions after infantry missions, all even in the same scope (squad vs squad, on the attack, usually). No stealth missions, no search missions, no ambush missions, no tank missions, no transport missions with choppers, very few truly combined ops missions, etc. Arma allows for a ton of variety, but few mission makers use it.

A little review of each mission in the campaign

Mmm Spoilers?

War Criminal

Infantry mission, small squad. A search mission with a twist. You have to search and capture a war criminal (well, two, the other is a secondary goal). For that, you patrol and search around a big area, checking out different POI (points of interests) that appear when you are nearby. In these POI usually there is a little skirmish to fight, usually against chedaki insurgents. Also, there is a small possibility of each enemy having an "evidence" of the war criminal.

For each POI cleaned up and every evidence taken, the search area indicated on the map is reduced, until finally you can start to really search your prey, making good guesses about where he could be. This is one of my favorite parts of Arma, you can open up the map and think about where you should search... and it works.

There are a few nice details like a technical in open terrain that serves as almost as a miniboss and a pursuit you have to do to trap the secondary war criminal.

It's also a pretty well balanced mission in terms of difficulty.

Patrol

Mechanized Infantry mission (big inf squad + Pandur). This is a simple but long mission. You go out with your Pandur (a kind of beefed up czech LAV) and patrol the map, visiting different marked areas as possible insurgent zones. Also as you travel you will discover more POI areas like hideouts or camp in a forest or you are called by radio to do an escort. When you clear up a dozen of sites, the mission finishes.

The nice part is the freedom you have in each encounter. You can try do it by yourself in the vehicle, or dismount before reaching the location and do it on foot, or both, leaving a driver and gunner in the Pandur and try to flank them by several sides (or be yourself the driver, or the gunner). Several of the POIs are in forests and other difficult places to make the mission a bit harder to "cheese" with the vehicle.

There is a good amount of AT soldiers as enemies, and 2 or 3 BRDM2, so you can't dominate totally with the Pandur. In fact your squad includes two engineers to repair it, but it's not infinite, each time they do some repairs it seems the total health recovered is less and less.

In this mission I had the good occurrence of ordering some repairs in a BRDM that I just had luck of disabling it without doing it a ton of damage. From that point I had both the BRDM2 as a spearhead and the Pandur behind opening fire to the targets I scouted. Fun times.

Again a balanced mission, I lost my vehicle and two soldiers... on the last objective, just in time.

Man's best friend

A pretty short but very original mission. Yourself, an allied soldier and your loyal dog, trying to capture some criminals that have escaped from prison. This is a very atmospheric mission, in a clear night in the forest, with just the help of your flashlight to see a bit better, while you hear your dog bark and a search chopper fly around.

The unique mechanic of this mission is the dog, automatically will pursuit the criminals, so you have to follow it. The closer it gets, the more it barks. If there is nearby armed hostiles (people who helped the criminals to break out?) it will growl; so there is few tense small encounters in the middle of the night. In a moment I even turned off my flashlight to have the edge in combat, as I could see the enemy's flashlight to locate him and kill him a second before he shot me.

Fireworks

Another search mission, this one as a semi (not obligatory, but somewhat recommended) stealth mission. Two camouflaged snipers (you with a 0.50 rifle, your mate with a silenced one) have to enter in a hostile area and search for a hidden base that is being used as the last vehicle depot, then mark it with laser for an arty attack. Avoid patrols if you can, or eliminate them carefully and run away if you prefer, and search for the base.

Again you have to open the map and thing where the base could be hidden. Like in a clear leveled area inside a forest :P.

The hard part is the base itself, here stealth is really obligatory, but it can be done. I had problems marking with the laser the vehicles, they have put a strange new mechanic of having to inspect each one looking at them but it seemed buggy. Finally you laze them up, the artillery blow them up and it's done. Again strangely the briefing said something of doing a posterior attack with infantry to finish the rest but the mission was over with the arty attack.

Wind storm

A chopper mission, yeah! You have to use a Hind to escort a transport chopper carrying special forces well inside enemy territory, escort the transport back, and then do a final attack to a enemy position.

It's a tough mission, but inside reasonable bounds, it can be done. There are a pair of Zsu-23 AA vehicles, several Vodniks/BDRM2 with HMG and several squads with portable AA as enemies, but there are several things you can try, like flying low to avoid contact, search a safe long route to evade most enemies, do fast attacks to remove the bigger threats from the route, or popping up from behind a peak, launch some missiles, and pop back behind the peak.

Dum Spiro Spero

Another stealth mission, but this one a bit different than the previous one.

You have eliminate four sentry posts in the night of Takistan in a stealthy way (you are a 4-5 man squad, all with sd weapons), then observe the meeting point of the enemy top brass, and lase them to bomb the hell out of them.

You can use the laser marker embedded FLIR system to help you see where are the enemies clearer than with the normal NVG, then plan ahread to kill them all. I found that the stealth part comes from having to clean each post fast, around 2.5 minutes later they give the alert. There isn't a lot of enemies in the sentry posts so it shouldn't be a problem. In fact I found you can use un-silenced weapons (there are weapon caches with big rifles in each posts) if you use them at range. In fact I even used a mix of my squad assaulting them while I covered them with a sniper rifle from a tower guard of the previous sentry post.

Again there is a weird system to lase and mark the enemy, you have to identify them first. The game doesn't mention (it did it but 5 minutes later!) that you have to use the zoom function to identify the enemy commanders. Finally the enemy reunion seems in another point so you have to follow a car (you can't, it's too fast) and guess where it went, and finally blow them up to bits.

Thunderstorm

A short, simple mission. A jet attack run on a convoy, when you destroy the convoy you are given a second objective, but seconds later of doing it the first pass your plane malfunctions and you have to jump. You have to call an extraction chopper and survive while it's coming (hint: it doesn't matter where you land, the enemy cheats and always appear ¬¬). At least it allows for an escape taken from Hollywood, running to the chopper while firing them back and the MG gunner from the back of the chopper also covering me. The end.

There will be Flood

Original but boring mission. In a flooded area, you have to use your little boat to rescue civilians trapped on roofs and buildings. The ambient is pretty good, with the rain pouring down and the flooded area is a novel concept in the game. But well, apart from soaking up the ambient there isn't a lot more, there is no enemies, not even a time limit or anything. Strange mission to use as the last one.

Holy smokes so much negativity :butbut: Not listening.. la la la.. I'm still getting it. Besides a lot of great mission makers already implemented ACR troops, equipment and vehicles in their missions.
