PMC Mission 1

Hello mates,

I'm having trouble with the PMC campaign, mission 1. I start out and look for Asano. Once I find him we proceed to locate the client. I find him dead and retrieve the documents, but as soon as I find Asano again he begins to act strangely.

He stays in one place for ages, often taking fire and still not moving. Then he begins to move and then pauses for another year. We move like this until we finally reach our rendevous point and here where we find this Dixon character dead, right next to a burning SUV.

Now I don't know where else to go from here. Asano moves back to where we started and he always ends up getting killed which leaves me all alone. I try to move outside the town but end up killed by the mortars.

I have started the mission over and over again and we alway find Dixon dead.

How can I fix this?

Others have had this problem, but I never have. After you get documents, forget about Asano, head as fast as possible to the rendezvous point with Dickson. On the way, stay near walls and dodge in and out of buildings to avoid artillery shrapnel, keeping your eye out for hostiles. I think you are taking too long to get to Dickson. He has always been alive for me.

Yeah, I've tried that with the same result. I guess I'll use the endmission cheat, but given the option, I would rather finish the mission the proper way.

One question though. Is this common with other missions of the campaign?

No, these random artillery grenades is making this mission difficult and unpredictable, and forces you to be careless and run at full speed, not the way Arma 2 should be played at all. Because of this, I really did not like the first mission at all, but there is nothing similar in the rest of the campaign. There are still a few issues with other missions, but overall it's a great campaign. It has the best storytelling of all official Arma 2 campaigns/missions (perhaps with the exception of Eagle Wing), but it's not quite as tactical and realistic as the previous ones.

RacingLad, I suggest you keep trying. I've played through all BIS games, and have never had to use that cheat.

I have ACE 2 mod installed. Could that be the ailment?

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now that you mention it, I think I remember someone else having the SAME issue with ACE and this mission. If you search these forums you will find another thread about the same issue. I STRONGLY advise you to never use mods when playing official missions to avoid trouble and frustration. At least avoid mods the first time you play through a campaign or scenario.

Or, put in another way, you could try disabling mods temporarily when you encounter strangeness to see if that will fix your issue.

One would think that this would be the natural, common sense first reaction before reporting a problem here. But I guess not, as this keeps happening all the time... :)

so here is the thing: I have bought the pmc dlc and baf dlc. baf dlc is working fine with campaign and scenarios but somehow i can only play the pmc lite campaign and only the showchase mission.

i use steam if that should matter??

anyway i hope someone knows how to deal with this problem

(And i have also disable all mods and addons)

PMC lite doesn't have a campaign. If you can play the campaign, you've got the full version installed. PMC didn't have any scenarios at release, but there should be 3 missions added if you've got the latest patches.

Try to locate folder containing your campaign progress and savegames. Don't know where they are in Steam version, but for example in Windows 7 with DVD installed Arma2 they are here: C:\Users\YourWindowsUserName\Documents\ArmA 2 Other Profiles\YourArma2PlayerProfileName\Saved\ca

See what is inside missions_pmc and missions2_pmc folders. Backup them somewhere and then delete atleast mission2_pmc folder content.

If you have played PMC Lite earlier even once and then bought PMC DLC, the game might be reading PMC Lite campaign progress instead of PMC DLC campaign progress. Campaign progress and unlocked campaign missions are stored in file called campaign.sqc. Backup and delete this file to erase PMC Lite campaign progress.

Another and faster way to test this is to create new player profile and launch PMC campaign and play to see if you get more than those three entries in Operation Black Gauntlet campaign mission list.

I'm pretty sure Steam version already includes latest PMC patch.

thanks alot Hanzu i have already tryed some of those things but some of them i have not i'll try the new things :D

i did find the campaign.sqc and deleted it and rebooted my pc and then tryed again with no luck but i have not tryed the thing with creating a new player profile.

Make sure you deleted the right campaign.sqc since all campaigns have a file with exactly same name.

How do you know it is still PMC Lite it is still offering?

PMC Campaign mission names are as follows:

Start

PMC00: Inception

End (Lite)

PMC DLC campaign mission names are are same for first 2, but campaign continues instead of that End (Lite) and features more mission names.

Check your Expansions options in main menu. If that also says PMC Lite then there is something gone wrong with Steam install. Expansions should show A2, OA, BAF and PMC. Preferably in that order too.

well i have checked the expansion and it looks right and textures and sounds are 100%

but pmc campaign mission names is only:

Start

PMC00: Inception

End (lite)

and that's it no more.

in my expansion i have the same as you say i should. except i have BAF after PMC

Hmm. I don't use Steam for BIS games. Are you sure PMC installed correctly? What about removing it and reinstalling? PMC Lite will play if the full PMC isn't installed (correctly). There is this forum about Steam stuff:

Could it be a problem with arma 2 oa so i would have to uninstall it and then re install?

I suppose you know you need to run your Steam version in Arma2 Combined Operations state. All Steam players who used to play multiplayer with me, made same mistake once when launching game in Arma2/Arma 2 OA state.

My PMC install is located here:

C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\PMC

It includes 1 subfolder and 66 files. See if you have something close to that.

If you have ever used beta patch, try deleting C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\Expansion\beta folder completely. Old beta patches can create problems if full game is already newer. For example:

If full game is 1.60 and there is 1.56 beta left in beta folder.

It would not hurt deleting all files inside these error logging folders too:

C:\Users\YourWindowsUserAccountName\AppData\Local\ArmA 2\

C:\Users\YourWindowsUserAccountName\AppData\Local\ArmA 2 OA\

Did you try creating new Arma 2 player profile to see if that makes a difference?

yes i created a new player profile before that i deleted the saves in the mission folders and campaign.sqc but no luck.

i then tried launch the game as arma 2 co from the steam libary I normally use a shortcut that bypass steam so i can run without steam. although that shouldn't be such a big deal.

thank you guys for helping me out but i think i'm gonna uninstall all arma related games and reinstall

I had the exact same problem as in the OP, and for me it was the JTD Fire & Smoke that caused it. Turned that off and the problem was solved immediately.

I guess what was happening was the fire spreading was causing Dixon to die or something.

EDIT: Seems like the OP solved his problem, but maybe this will be helpful to someone else. ;)

i got my PMC to work again :D

i uninstalled the games and reinstalled and now it's working.
