Halp! I can only select Low texture quality and Low video memory. The game looks like a total piece of shit and textures and UI elements flicker annoyingly, performance isn't stellar either. What's wrong?

I tried playing with different -maxmem and -maxvram parameters, -winxp, deleting cfg files, rebooting etc to little avail.

Specs: Win7 64b, Core i7 950 3.07GHz, 12GB ram, GTX580 3GB, Nvidia driver 301.42, no OC. Steam version of game.

please post your IF.cfg. -maxVRAM should do the trick in your cases I think

please post the command line you tried

I tried values 800, 2000 and 3000. With some settings I would see Normal available but textures still looked super low res in many places.

IF.cfg:

language="English";

adapter=-1;

3D_Performance=1500000;

Resolution_Bpp=32;

Resolution_W=1920;

Resolution_H=1080;

winY=32;

winW=800;

winH=600;

winDefW=800;

winDefH=600;

Render_W=1920;

Render_H=1080;

FSAA=0;

postFX=2;

GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1000;

GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1;

HDRPrecision=8;

lastDeviceId="";

localVRAM=2147483647;

nonlocalVRAM=1337520128;

vsync=0;

AToC=7;

PPAA=0;

PPAA_Level=0;

Windowed=0;

I have this problem also (with Arma2 too) since upgrading memory. I had 4Gb RAM and everything was perfectly fine, now I have 16Gb and textures/UI started to flicker in arma. I made extensive memory tests (memtest, s&m) and this is not memory related problem. I bought Iron Front and now have same problem. All other games and software works fine. I've tried everything possible to fix, but still no result, apparently it's engine bug. Currently experimenting with different mallocs in arma.

Specs: win7 64, i5 750, radeon 4870

Here is a summary of Dwarden about the problem:

There is problem, especially on Vista and Seven 64bit OS with more than 4GB memory

and 1GB or more VRAM where OS will report less video memory than real value is

(32bit OSes might suffer from variant of this too)

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2026022/en-us?p=1

On a system with 1GB of video memory, the following values are returned with the associated system memory:

System Memory | Reported Approximate Total Memory

4GB | 3496MB

6GB | 454MB

8GB | 1259MB

Lots of discussion e.g. here including some not nice 3rd party workarounds (patching files etc):

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?131403-Video-Setting-Lock-Cannot-Go-Above-Normal-for-Video-Memory

Hm it seems the maxVRAM setting does not work (currently/in IF/for some). :(

Can you try different video memory settings please? Worst case you can try to remove RAM sticks to get below,

or try the patching of files.

In addition you may want to disable AToC and use PPAA:

Here is my iron front video:

I've forced textures to "High" in config. The higher video memory/texture setting, the more severe is this problem.

Pulverizer, do you have the same flickering?

Tried maxVRAM with arma - doesn't help.

Tried, the higher - the bigger the problem.

No way :)

try the patching of files.

See no sense...

In addition you may want to disable AToC and use PPAA

Atoc = 0, PPAA = 1

Yeah I get that same flicker, the sun can make the whole sky flash (epilepsy warning).

@pvpscene, I will try those fixes next weekend.

@MessiahUA thanks for such great report

Unfortunately it is not as structured and organized as I would've wanted it to be, but I'm glad to provide any other additional info, if needed, and I hope this issue will be resolved, because it makes not only IF experience worse, but also Arma :(

I think what you are seeing there is the old HDR flash - do you have an AMD card running crossfireX? I have started to see this again too after six months clear (happens in Arma too). I used to be able to get rid of it by turning HDR precision down but that doesn't seem to work anymore.

is there a solution. In ArmA II - OA I dont have this problems. But in Iron Front I have to battle against the ugly textures coming in over time. The Graphic looks so nice when sharp and hi res, It is so sad that it doesnt work - and I have plenty of memory on my VGA and on my RAM.

I think that this effect gets more and more over time.

In the beginning all looks nice, but then when walking around it loads new textures and the older ones get more blurry and more low res.

I set -maxmem and -maxvram and high priority of the IF Task in Windows.

This is a little bit an immersion breaker. Yes I admit I like the good textures much! ;) playing with the low res only isnt so much fun for me.

in the beginning all looks nice and good, in the end more and more low res.

I copied most of the config settings from my ArmA2OA.cfg to IF.cfg and most of my graphical problems went away.

I've installed latest IF patch 1.03 and as far as I understand it is based on 1.62 for OA, but I still have the problem with textures and only one video memory setting - "low". BUT for arma 1.62 fixed this issue... why not for IF?

The engine versions are different. IF 1.62 is not OA 1.62 (which is newer).
